Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney eked out a one-vote victory Saturday in a presidential straw poll at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. More than 1,800 delegates chose from a list of nine prospective candidates.

Romney, who ran for president in 2008 and skipped the conference, received 439 votes. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who also ran in 2008, finished second with 438 votes.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin finished third with 330 votes and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich finished fourth with 321 votes.

www.latimes.com...

I am simply astounded that Ron Paul got second. Ron Paul, being pretty much a third party candidate, got 2nd place by one vote.

Wow.

Maybe there is hope for a third party president? (Yes, he is registered as "republican" but his views aren't)

Ron Paul got FIRST place at the Conservative Convention just a short time ago.

And Mitt Romney ONLY got first because he was bribing for votes, by buying tickets to the event - for people that would vote for him.

Romney

I hope he feels important and loved, because deep down he KNOWS he is a flaming piece of crap.

I would not put it past GOP political operatives to ensure an "acceptable" outcome. Fox reported it as some big story that "Evangelicals for Romney" came in droves to support him, even though he didn't attend. Who knows, maybe he bussed in all the local mormon families ?

1 vote makes it a respectable fix. I'd like to see the amount of transparancy that went into the vote counting. I don't take the results as legitimate.

Yep, Ron Paul was interviewed recently and the reporter asked "what he thought" about Romney buying tickets for people who would vote for him in the poll... he generally didn't really care. If that is what Romney has to do to win a poll then who cares... he sucks anyway.

Romney with his crazy ideas of mandated health care fix?

sounds like some maoist, marxist, socialist utopia philosophy spewing hitler to me...

oh, wait...he has a R in front of the name, that makes it fine.

Any chance someone could possibly provide the proof of Romney buying tickets for the vote ? As for Ron Paul, he's scary and I would never vote for him. I would vote for Romney or Gingrich. Sarah blew any chance she had when she destroyed all of her credibility by supporting McCain for re election.

I will however, vote for anyone other than Obama or a democrat in the next elections to come. So if it was Ron verses Obama, I guess I would have to close my eyes, tell myself I'm sorry, and pull the lever for Ron Paul.

Further illustrates the one party system. Romney is just the white Obama. Well, he's the 100% white Obama.

Funny if he stacked the vote and still only came out one vote ahead. What a douche bag. A Masshole through and through.

The only thing we are seeing is the falsely contrived victory claimed by Romney and his political deception machine. The Romney team have been testing out their ability to influence, bribe, threaten and coerce. Since Romney knew he could never beat Ron Paul, he contrives the votes to win by one vote. Yeah, sure, right. What a loser. By one vote. Really, what a joke.

Romney most likely finished in actuality somewhere way behind Palin, but if anyone takes this recent Romney win as a sign that the next "Prince of Mankind" has arrived, boy are you in for a surprise.

Anyway, thanks for the posting.

LOL...I wanted to say it man...I did...but I didn't. We should thank Hannity for all of the airtime he consistently gives Romney and his radical socialist agenda.

I'm stating it right now...ROMNEY will NOT be Prez in 2012. Obama will whip out Romneycare every chance he gets...and if somehow Romney DOES win....then we know that America only wants a radical white socialist...who isn't really a socialist...but a corporate hack....as long as he's not brown skinned. That's icky.

God Bless the US of A!!!

People are idiots. I hate to admit it...but sometimes we deserve the crappy ass government we have if people can be this F'n stupid.

Yeah, gotta fear those little old Christian men with their extremist Constitution and belief in State Rights.

Why would anyone in their right mind believe that States (led by voters) can be trusted to make their own decisions?

Why would ANYONE trust a population with Free Speech and the ability of the populous to arm themselves?

Whoever wrote that crazy Constitution needs to be hanged, stoned to death, then dragged into the electric chair, and.... Oh, wait. They're not still around?

Ron Paul is some kind of EXTREMIST Domestic TERRORIST!
DOWN with Constitutional Rights!
DOWN with freedom!

HAIL ROMNEY.

Maybe the morons do deserve the government they get but they're too stupid to even notice things are messed up. So what did the few who do see how messed up it all is do to deserve living under a government put in place by morons? Whatever it was it must have been pretty horrible.

I ask myself that often.

It's just extremely difficult for people to see through the corporate filter that is our news media.

Generally people mean well for the most part....but if they can't understand what is actually happening...then we will continue to elect boobs.

I think we need to get presidents in office who are not at all worried about the people who are internationalists(bankers, corporate ceo's). If we get people in office like that we could change the entire field of politics. We could talk about tariffs without it being a dirty word, we could talk about the constitution without people thinking you are some right-winger, we could talk about the trade deficit, we could talk about what is really going on in this world.

I agree. It just kills me that we have the Glen Beckers of the world attacking Progressives when they essentially want many of the same things.

This is why I've grown to hate him so much. He's a fraud. The main difference with Beck and Progressives is that he sucks on the corporate tit.

He does not care about the middle or little man...no matter how much he says that he claims to.

I listen to his radio show pretty much every day. He had a few gems....i'll share them.

First...."If you are unemployed...GET A DAMN JOB." Easily said for a multimillionaire.

Second...

"Anyone who didn't pay income taxes should be sent to war."

YES...he said that.
