Judge in Danziger case sickened by 'raw brutality of the shooting and the craven lawlessness of the cover-up'

A New Orleans police officer who fired his gun at civilians on the Danziger Bridge a week after Hurricane Katrina pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday, offering a chilling account of what transpired on the bridge that early September day in 2005.

Michael Hunter, 33, became the first officer who actually participated in the shooting to enter a guilty plea. Two investigators have already confessed to playing roles in a wide-ranging cover-up of the police shooting, which injured four unarmed civilians and left two men dead.

Hunter, who resigned last week after he was charged in federal court, contends that fellow officers shot at people they should have seen were unarmed. The account of events Hunter signed Thursday afternoon, called a factual basis, provides the most specific details to date about officers' actions on the bridge, which spans the Industrial Canal at Chef Menteur Highway.

Hunter, 33, said a New Orleans police sergeant fired an assault rifle at wounded civilians at close range after other officers stopped shooting and after it was clear that the police were not taking fire. He also says he saw another officer in a car fire a shotgun at a fleeing man's back, although the man did nothing suggesting he was a threat to police. That man, 40-year-old Ronald Madison, who was severely mentally disabled, died of his wounds.

As part of his plea, Hunter also acknowledged taking part in a conspiracy with colleagues to conceal the circumstances of what he considered an unjustified shooting. At one point, in a meeting with other officers, a supervisor said "something to the effect of, we don't want this to look like a massacre," the court document says.

Finally some justice...

Good to see some justice coming to corrupt pigs. Unfortunately so many other pigs get away with their corruption all over the world everyday. Maybe oneday payback will come.

Fry the pork!

Blue collard murderers deserve the book thrown at them.

So few posts...where are all the cops and cop groupies now? Why aren't they telling us that police do not MURDER in cold blood and cover it up? Why is there silence from all the cop lovers? Surely they must have a soul of some kind...and if they do they need to see what is real.

Here is the Federal pleading...the actual facts that the cop agreed to:

Note: reading the following true account of COLD BLOODED POLICE MURDER may sicken you.

www.huffingtonpost.com...

From that court document:

" As Ronald Madison lay dying on the pavement, Sergeant A ran down the bridge toward Ronald and asked an officer if Ronald was "one of them." When the officer replied in the affirmative, Sergeant A began kicking or stomping Ronald Madison repeatedly with his foot. Sergeant A appeared to be striking Madison's torso with as much force as he could muster. Defendant HUNTER charged toward Sergeant A, who backed off from Madison. As defendant HUNTER walked away, an officer standing nearby appeared shocked that HUNTER had confronted Sergeant A.

Shortly thereafter, Sergeant A approached defendant HUNTER and apologized for being "out of line."

So MURDER and STOMPING a DYING man is just ' out of line' conduct?

No wonder the People had better arm themselves well and consider the cops our worst enemy.....these cops are MURDERERS...plain and simple.

And we wonder why poor blacks have such a mistrust of the police and why witnesses don't come forward in inner city crimes. Those puke pigs deserve everything they get and more.

I suppose I am one of the people you would refer to as a 'cop groupie'. The actions taken by these cops are indefensible. I hope they get maximum sentences and this is a story that truly makes me sick.

That being said, do you really think it's appropriate to paint all cops as murderers? In any profession there are going to be scumballs. I really hate cops like this, and they deserve to have the book thrown at them. Other cops do not deserve to be lumped in with them however.

This is rediculous and disgusting. Like they said it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. The bunch is and has been spoiled for years. People with guns and the law backing them cannot be trusted in the abuse of power. Hope this gains some traction in the MSM.

If you have a strong stomach, read the pleading filed in court. It says that " SGT. A ran up and STOMPED on a dying man!!" This PIG scum actually MURDERED several people, shot them dead for NOTHING, and then ran up and began stmping on the chest of a dying victim!!

If this cop is not charged and imprisoned, the People should rise up and en masse find him and get a rope. STOMPING on a dying man??

They would have covered it up forever had the Feds not gotten involved.

Here is the filing: humidcity.com...

From that filing: " As Lance Madison ran toward the Friendly Inn, a motel at the bottom of the bridge, Ronald Madison trailed approximately 20 to 30 feet behind him. The LSP car moved to cut off Lance Madison and, in so doing, briefly pulled slightly ahead of Ronald Madison, who continued to run after his brother. As Ronald Madison then ran past the slowing LSP car, heading toward the motel, he passed by defendant HUNTER and defendant HUNTER had a clear view of him. Defendant HUNTER saw blood on Ronald Madison’s shirt, and thought he might have been shot. Ronald Madison, who was running with his hands in view, had no weapon and posed no threat. Ronald Madison did not change his direction, turn around, or stop running as he passed the LSP car. Instead, Madison continued to run away, following his brother, who was a short distance ahead of him. At no time as Ronald Madison ran, did defendant HUNTER see him turn toward the officers, reach into his waistband, or make any threatening gestures.

As the unmarked LSP car pulled to a stop, Officer A, without warning, fired a shotgun at Ronald Madison’s back as Madison ran away in the direction of the motel. Defendant HUNTER immediately got out of the car and went to where Ronald Madison was lying on the ground. Ronald Madison was alive, but appeared to be dying. He was lying on his side, with two officers standing nearby. Neither defendant HUNTER nor either of the other officers searched Ronald Madison for a weapon.

As Ronald Madison lay dying on the pavement, Sergeant A ran down the bridge toward Ronald and asked an officer if Ronald was “one of them.” When the officer replied in the affirmative, Sergeant A began kicking or stomping Ronald Madison repeatedly with his foot. Sergeant A appeared to be striking Madison’s torso with as much force as he could muster. Defendant HUNTER charged toward Sergeant A, who backed off from Madison. As defendant HUNTER walked away, an officer standing nearby appeared shocked that HUNTER had confronted Sergeant A."

The only shock shown by the MUDERING PIGS was the fact that one cop actually had the nerve to confront the SGT. A who was STOMPING a DYING man to death!! How DARE anyone second guess a MURDERING PIG!!?? unreal...just unreal.

Stories like this make me want to shoot first and ask for badges later...assume that all cops will kill you and stomp you if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

COLD BLOODED MURDER by COPS. When will we take the law back from these scum?

Mistrusting cops is not a big reason why "poor blacks" don't come forward. Protecting their own criminal element for fear of retaliations is the biggest reason. The officers involved were wrong to a certain degree, however, I would imagine dealing with animals everyday tends to break one down. I think the officers were put in an impossible situation and over reacted. Should they be punished, of course. Are the people involved on the other side totally innocent, hell no.

If you believe what you wrote above, you have no clue about what you are talking about. none.

So black people are not concerned about their lives and homes..all they want is to protect criminals, right? They are so in fear of retaliation that they hide, right? That is racist!! it is nonsense!! As if crime victims are too afraid too report crimes because they are ' protecting' ' their ' criminals..where do you get this stuff?

AND, you think that cops are so weak minded and unprofessional that they get ' broken down ' by animals? WHAT?? The cops were in an IMPOSSIBLE situation? WHAT? What is so impossible about a routine hammering of peoples homes and killing their animals? They do it all day long!! If they are ' broken down' by their jobs, let them go cut bait.

You must have a very low opinion of the cops...and that is no suprise as they are deserving of same..but the excuses you give are silly. Can't you come up with anything better than that?

Give it a little time and the badge kissers will be out in droves. "A few bad apples", "this is an isolated incident", "they were under a lot of pressure", "you don't have all the facts". BLAH BLAH BLAH... All excuses born from the misplaced conception that by defending these thugs some sense of leniency will be afforded to the badge kissers at some future point.

When a policeman, entrusted with the public safety violates that trust, absolutely ZERO compassion, ZERO leniency should be afforded to him. This might seem harsh, but the policeman is TRUSTED and trained to NOT do harm to the public. The policeman has many avenues of support both physical and emotional to ensure that he is operating at a safe and humane level. So the argument that dealing with criminals all day makes him see all people as criminals is simply not true.

The cops in the OP's post are exactly the kind that are destroying the faith the public had in the police services. All it took, (apparently) was for a natural disaster and these guys (the police) turn into the most loathsome of humans. Stomping on a dying man, shooting an unarmed person in the back while that person is running away. Of course, the badge kissers will probably say, if you don't commit a crime, you have nothing to fear. It looks like the only crime the public committed here was simply existing in a fashion that the police didn't approve of.

So sad for the families of the victims. I hope more cops speak out against bad apples in their departments.

Call it racist if you want to, that word has lost all meaning. Where you come from and what you experience has an effect on how you view the world and the people in it.
I get "this stuff" from the local news from different areas where I have lived. People in different communities know who the killers, gangbangers and drug dealers are, yet are too afraid to anything to help themselves or their community, from fear of retaliation. I wasn't refering to peoples pets when I said animals, but rather the people who live there.......when you deal constantly with the lowest common denominator........poop happens.
