Yeah it is much better that he goes on TV to play basketball during the NCAA tournament. I'm so glad he spent time following college hoops so that he could fill out his "March Madness" brackets on ESPN. Those things have a lot more to do with running the country.

We need to at least argue (or take digs) with a bit of intellectual honesty.

Exactly! The next thing you know, Obama will be off playing golf and taking month long vacations on his trophy ranch. That is how a president is supposed to run the country!

And you can pretend it's "fantasyland" nonsense to levy a charge of elitism while Obama services the interests of his billionaire friends and union leaders and takes his temporary loan of power to enact as many permanent policies based on his ideologies as possible. You're welcome to pretend he's a common man serving the interest of the people if you wish, but anyone without partisan leanings can easily see through this guy's transparency.

Actually, I believe the "elite" label got slapped on Obama because he is a graduate of some of the most prestigious schools in the country (and the world) and because he is a lawyer, a scholar and an intellectual.

IMO he has all the "elite' credentials. To me, what matters about him is what he has done with all his privilege, and that is to do as much good for the average American as his position allows. The presidency has its limits as well as its privileges. One man in just a couple of terms cannot reform Washington and how it does business entirely. He has to work with what he has been given.

To me, Obama is much less elitist than the previous Republican administrations, which have done far, far less for the American people as a whole and far, far more for the billionaires and multi-nationals and the banks and the rest of the power structure and TPTB than Obama ever will.

The Republicans, if they regained their old power, would be much worse in those respects, and if your own ideology did not get in the way so much you would see that the GOP is the party of the rich, for the rich and by the rich. They are the definition of elite.

It's an old tactic to tar your opponent with your own brush.

I have some reservations about Obama--chiefly that he isn't radical enough--but criticism, to be valid, also has to be true.

BTW: The unions are made up of average Americans who have banded together to prevent exploitation by their corporate masters and better their lot. Those who really care about the little guy see that. It's just envy of their success by those who don't belong to one or fear of their power by those who would exploit them that fuels the frenzy of hate toward them.

This is why I find ATS political banter great entertainment.

Bush in office meant that the left leaning members would call him everything under the sun, while the right leaning defended him.

Obama in office means that the right leaning members call him everything under the sun, while the left leaning resorts to attacking the intellect in order to defend him.

I remember the OP being a proud fan of Glenn Beck, he would post numerous clips of his show everyday. Beck began to become unpopular on ATS and he decided to change his opinion of Beck.

I imagine most here are like the OP. You go with whatever flavor is popular at the time.

Newt is allowed to speak his opinion in whatever way he is allowed, just like you guys are allowed to do so here. If given the oppurtunity, many of you would go onto a television show and express your views. Sounds like many of you are just jealous that he has the outlet that you badly want for yourselves.

I am 24. I am proud of Obama in the sense he is being judged on merit and ideology more than his skin color. I do feel racism exists but not in a way that limits. It has become a niche. Obama has been in office for approx 14 months and I'm almost 100% sure his actions have not affected anyone here. Sure the news sounds awful. But honestly for ppl who lost jobs u were going to lose it no matter what. An over extended economy must eventually retract. Your local govt is what determines ur life. For all his socialist labels. Obama hasn't taxed any of u nor stolen ur liberties. If I'm mistaken give proof. Otherwise we r all here repeating what we heard on tv.

This POS shouldn't be allowed on television...he's a corporate hack who has a reserved spot in hell.

Why? Is free speech dead? I think it's a sad day when modern, forward thinking human beings can't stand to hear a dissenting voice. Maybe you don't like what he has to say, but he should be allowed to speak.

We are way too sensitive these days. Let people say whatever they want. I don't like it when Bill Maher goes on rants about certain politicians on the right, but I still watch his show. I thought he was hilarious when I first saw him in his younger days, and still do love his wit. But, there are some things I don't like, and/or agree with. However, I'm comfortable enough with myself, that I can listen to others, and not throw a fit if they don't do what I want them to do.

It's really not so bad...now if he starts killing people...then let's have some outrage. Free speech...no outrage.

Who am I? I'm just a regular guy who makes 30k a year. I don't own a home. I have a truck that i struggle to make payments on. I simply don't have that much. I'm nobody...but I'm everyone....as you are David.

I want a better life for my family as you do....we all want the same things.

Fact: Newt Gingrich has supported policies that have been terrible for all of us. For the working man...and the small business owner. He has no business calling anyone a radical.....he's more radical than Obama is.

Whenever you read my posts...you will always see that I will always defend the little man. Why? Because I'm one of them.

I simply will not stand up for multi billionaires...nor anyone else who doesn't have the interests of our country at heart.

Your posts about Obama & baseball are the lamest "attacks" I've seen on ATS. Reminds me of the lame
Please choose one:
Birth certificate
teleprompters
socialism
elitism
His poll numbers
school records
taking your guns away
resembling Hitler
raising taxes

So let's just take Gingrich's word for it. From a guy who cheated on his wife while she lay in a hospital bed at the same time squawking about Clinton cheating on his wife. Incidently saying so on a "news" station that hires rightwing criminals and terrorists like say, G Gordon Liddy, Oliver North and Palin (ask the FBI why she stepped down as Gov when they dropped 15 charges against her AFTER she resigned!)
Duplicity from the right says He's a Socialist but then gave away the farm to big banks, cars companies, and to big Pharma.
Say he'll take your guns away but passed one of the biggest laws for gun rights by allowing you to bring your guns to state parks while you camp. Which has proven to be one of the safest places in America until this law!!!
Say the HC bill will tax us all & run out of money but you don't want everyone to join health care to pay for it. How will HC lose money if it has 32 million new customers to pay for it & those who won"t will be taxed for not getting it?
How about the fact that HCR will save millions because the Insurance companies NOW charge $8 for an asprin & $30 for gauze?
Judge Gingrich for his past lies & reputation rather than your own misguided idealolgy that fit your prejudices!

Opinions result from perceptions, and perceptions reinforce Opinions, which then further control perceptions , in a repeating loop that logic can never penetrate. (Only a shocking new perception, too strong to get edited out by opinion, can break this self-hypnotic loop.)

Bravo!!! Not until you so succinctly spelled it out did I realize how much jealousy might be involved here. The republicans have never had such an impressive/classy/qualified candidate.

They seem to like movie stars a great deal. (I have noticed.)

Got to love Newt!
After leaving Washington in disgrace, he lays low for years, the returns Nixon style and pushes the Neocon agenda as if he's some sort of rebel outsider. He wants personal power and wants to regain Neocon Republican power to continue the Bush policy of looting the Treasury and making the rich and corporate America richer.
What's absolutly atounding is that he's not been hung! So called "conservatives" seem to be willing to do the Bush years all over again, the EXACT SAME GUYS THAT HAVE BROUGHT THIS NATION TO ECONOMIC COLLAPSE WHILE ENRICHING THEMSELVES!

He left DC in disgrace? Are you kidding? He left because he had an affair, and didn't want to be a distraction. So he left in disgrace in your opinion, but Bill Clinton didn't? You make no sense.

By the way, Bush's policies were hardly Republican or Neocon as you call them. In actuality they were very very liberal. Republicans are for small limited govt. Bush doubled the size of govt and put govt more into people's lives....... that is not a neocon President. Thats a liberal President calling himself a Republican.

Bush was a Neocon. You just don't know what Neoconservatism is.
Many people seem to think the term "neocon" is some kind of slang. it's actually a term used by a group of mostly Republicans to describe their philosophy.

Wikipedia

As for Newt, he left in disgrace. He hammered Clinton for his own affair, while lying about his own, telling his wife he was leaving her while she was in the hospital in the cancer ward. He resigned from the House shortly after his amazing hypocrisy was made public.
Good God, if anybody represents the same old PTB, it's Newt!

Here's bio of Newtie!
He is hardly the Constitution loving rebel he's trying to portray now. His "new" image as a kissing cousin to Tea Party types is simply a PR effort to rehabilitate his past into a new image. rebranding.
Why he's the NEW IMPROVED NEWT!

Several things he has said recently rings of someone who is thinking of making a bid for the presidency in 2012.

I figured. Maybe there will be a Palin/Gingrich ticket. That would be soo wonderful, wouldn't it, OldDragger?

DId the actions of the previous President and Congress have a lasting impact and part of what is happening to our country right now or is everything Obamas' fault?

Newt has been trying to be President since his big return, ( the return nobody cares about).
I can't see Repub voters flocking to nominate him!

As for Palin, she could be the McCain of 2012, Repubs are that crazy, but Rommney IS the Annoited one by the Party. He's the guy the Repub PTB wanted in 08, but nooooooooo! Voters went to McCain. Worked out well didn't it?

Despite the propaganda, I really don't see any Republican that can beat Obama

But a Palin/Gingrich or Gingrich/Palin ticket would likely mean an unsuccessful ticket.

No denying that Obama is a flat out radical liar. Nice try. If he is willing to lie his way out of a minor baseball pickle I can only imagine what else he would lie about. Oh yeah no taxe hikes for those making under 250k.

Nice try. Obama thanks you for his support because he certainly needs it as his numbers continue to tumble down.

AS for Newt, Newt is Newt and Newt will never be President. You can rest at ease. How about John Edwards? He'd be a great dem. candidate by your standards.

You Media Matters folks are really grasping at straws to defend Obama. No one ever defends his policies just the man and his character flaws.

BTW its the hospitals that charge $8 for Tylenol and $30 for gauze. THe hospitals then bill the insurance companies and you and me. NOTHING is ever FREE and even Obamacare will cost you and the nation. The money has to come from somewhere in a day when our govt. no longer has any money to spend. Meanwhile, it is getting more difficult by the day for average people to get credit and to obtain loans to finance businesses, home remodeling, tuition, and to even refinance an existing mortgage etc... No problem for the govt and its blank check program though.

All thanks to our "most radical president ever"

edit to add:
The new gun law applies to National Parks NOT state parks and it has been in the works for years until it was finally attached to the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act of 2009. The crime numbers may appear low in National parks but you must realize just how many square miles our Nations parks occupy. Those crimes stats have been slowly creeping up since at least 2003. I like to be able defend myself against any attacker whether man or beast.

Thanks you so much for that beginning post,

After all the BS happening in the US for the last 15 years people still doesn't get it, our government is no own by politicians, they are owned along with our representatives by corporate elite and those that runs the Banking system, behind the curtains

Deny ignorance America once and for all stop blaming one politicians over another, they all own their souls to their masters and is not We the people.

The only polices been pushed in this nation in the last 10 years now are those of corporate power, the only socialization been done is against the tax payer to support those that hold the wealth in the nation.
