Interesting, but seems a bit dubious. We can assume that the warhead would have been tracked by US BMEW radar from just after launch to impact. Surely if this had happened it would be construed as an act of war.
I would have thought that Bush would have been trumpetting this news to all who would listen, but he hasn't.
Lastly when was this test supposed to have happened ? I have heard nothing of any ballistic missile test.

It would be expected that the administration respond, and it doesn't want to try and deal with NK and Iraq at the same time.

The warhead of a long-range missile test-fired by North Korea was found in the U.S. state of Alaska, a report to the National Assembly revealed yesterday.

``According to a U.S. document, the last piece of a missile warhead fired by North Korea was found in Alaska,�ذ� former Japanese foreign minister Taro Nakayama was quoted as saying in the report. ``Washington, as well as Tokyo, has so far underrated Pyongyang��s missile capabilities.�ذ�

The report was the culmination of monthlong activities of the Assembly��s overseas delegation to five countries over the North Korean nuclear crisis. The Assembly dispatched groups of lawmakers to the United States, Japan, China, Russia and European Union last month to collect information and opinions on the international issue.

The team sent to Japan, headed by Rep. Kim Hak-won of the United Liberal Democrats, reported, ``Nakayama said Washington has come to put more emphasis on trilateral cooperation between South Korea, Japan and the United States since it recognized that the three countries are within the range of North Korean missiles.�ذ�

According to the group dispatched to the U.S., American politicians had a wide range of opinions over the resolution of the nuclear issue, from ``a peaceful resolution�ذ� to ``military response.�ذ�

Doves, such as Rep. Edward J. Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat and co-chairman of the Bipartisan Task Force on Nonproliferation, called for a peaceful settlement of the current confrontation, by offering food, energy and other humanitarian aid to the poverty-stricken country, while urging the North to give up its nuclear ambitions.

Rep. Markey also said the North should return to the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and the U.S. should make a nonaggression pact with the communist North.

Hardliners, however, warned that the North��s possession of nuclear weapons will instigate a nuclear race in the region, provoking Japan to also acquire nuclear weapons. Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, an Illinois Republican, said the U.S. might have to bomb the Yongbyon nuclear complex should the North try to export its nuclear material to other countries.

Over the controversy concerning the withdrawal of U.S. forces stationed here, most American legislators that the parliamentary delegation met said U.S. troops should stay on the peninsula as long as the Korean people want, the report said.

its a piece of missile casing not the warhead, obviously not fired at Alaska but having been tested has ended up somewhere on the alaskan coast.

Look, NK has been playing games for quite awhile, but there are reasons why you aren't hearing about them. We are pretty much getting ready to enter another cold war. Have no fear, if they start launching, we will blow them to kingdom come via our SSBNs. The danger, of course, is their ally China.

Yes, NK does have nuclear capabilities and is an active threat to parts of the united states as well as our allies. Do you think that somebody was walking along the beach and found this piece of a korean warhead? No, most likely it was tracked and this is a benign way to warn the american public while, at the same time, letting NK know that we are paying attention to their movements. Remember when their MIGs locked onto our plane earlier this week? Well, it was stated in the news that we moved 20 bombers into Japan, but that such a move wasn't related to the lock-on incident.

The best thing that most of us can do is study up on our military knowledge... the purpose of specific model planes, etc. As things are announced in the news, realize that they have been 'sanitized' to be read not only by the american public but also by the enemy. We are already engaged in a psychological war and unfortunately most of us aren't really supposed to know what is going on.

It seems a bit dated, but has some info about the purported find.

Not even North Korea would intentionally fire a missle in a test and have it land on US soil. Even at the height of the Cold War the US and USSR NEVER test fired a missle anywhere NEAR each others territory. If you land a missle, even without a warhead, on another countries soil it can, and probably will be considered an act of war, and not taken very lightly. More than likely it landed in the ocean and rolled along the bottom until it washed up on shore.

Wow well i said before the Iraq war we must deal with North Korea since they pose a greater danger then Iraq ever did. Its just us americans are too scared to fight North Korea we dont want lose another 50,000 people like we did in nam.
