Thanks for waking me up Silo some beautiful but dangerous photos you have.... Please remember what my drill sarg taught us during a nuke disaster which was and is "Keep your ass to the blast and we only wants to see elbows and bottoms running away!!!! I am sure these photos should reap payments to replace spoiled crops.

I will talk to my sister to see what she has to say about selling em!

Yeah, I start thinking all 'cave woman' when I'm 'out there' - no joke. Knees shake... I keep smelling the air (I've 'smelt' something foul from her only once) and I wonder when the earth is gonna open up and swallow me whole, lol. I blame the 'blur' photos on my lack of tripod. *wink*

That must be how our ancestors felt,(but without the camera and tripod).
You are lucky to feel it Silo, its something most folks would never feel living in the modern world, working in cities.
What a top experience to have.

She is so different. Tremore is dropping again but sismico has risen. Without the tremore this isn't a full episode of lava fountaining (paroxysm) or a very small one hopefully. Still lots of lava flowing at the moment.

This from Carl le Strange on Eriks site
"Carl le Strange, Ph.D. 1 comment collapsed Collapse Expand
Etna is having way to much fun. Here is how it most often is, and how it is today:

It should be:1. Steam puffs.2. Boris tells us that Etna will erupt.3. Tremor.4. Boom.5. Lava.6. Sleep.
Not:1. Small phreatic explosions.2. Lava.3. Boris says “Say what?”4. Steam.5. Tremor.6. More lava.7. Who knows, when Boris said “Say what?” in the morning the rule-book was kind of out the window.
Etna is confused."

Never seen her do this. One hand says yes erupt, the other sleep. Everyone is just saying huh? What? All my charts two days ago pointed to her going today. It is like she has the sniffles not a full cold. I need to turn in because I am up so early. I will pop back again around midnight, UK to see if there is a change.

Now it looks like tremore is trying to go up again, very dark squiggle where it went down then up.

Hi
Back to check and everything is exactly as I have left it. The Trmore mark is still at 16. It did drop tp 15 then back up where it has stopped again.

Well the stats have finally moved with Tremore now up to 34. Might well now be on her way to lava fountaining (paroxysm), But still a way to go.

Here is the latest thermal

A little before 0300 there was no denying this eruption had gone from something nice, tidy and beautiful to something way beyond the scale of cute.

It's so loud now I can hardly hear for it.

I've got some video and pics - just going to take time to load.

This is big.

BIG.

And the massive cloud of ash is INCREDIBLE...

HUGE chunks of rock hitting the house.
Video is taking time to load.
Here's a quick pic for now.
0348 it was taken - now 0355

I'm sorry this pic is so misleading. This lava fountain is soooo high!

Be back - have to go check out these chunks a rock.

peace

Thanks LilDrummer but at the moment 'close' isn't so fun.
The rocks tumbling from the sky are bigger than my lens cap - they hurt.
The ash and lava is absolutely incredible this time - especially for something that started out so small.
And it's not at all backing off (0418 here).
It sounds like my house is getting bombed and I know I'm going to have to replace some tiles tomorrow.
The videos are taking forever to load on YT but I'll get them up as soon as I can.
Pics too - but pretty much the same - just misleading for what's really going on.
That BOOM just then - shook the house.
Scary? A little this time.
Be back...
peace and thanks again

I believe your vid starts where the webcam stopped. This is before your footage. The cam stopped working at 03:35 this morning.

I was recording another cam on Etna today. What strikes me is the activity on the flank of the volcano. Can you tell what they are doing here?

Good thread... I would have gone fishing waywayway somewhere else by now.

That is an absolutely stunning picture!! Wow.

So I just saw on CNN that Etna has erupted again for the 7th time this year. So I actually ran a search to find a previous thread and check on you. Good to see you are safe Silo.
