Mt. Etna Eruption ~ Local Coverage (latest event: Feb. 19 0500 local time! )

Dr Borris Bhnenke seems to think Monday or shortly after will be the next one. There are a few professional photographers/film makers making plans to be there Monday to film her next tantrum!

Thank you for the info! I'm so psyched there are going to be people there with real cameras!

Between now and then? She's putting out a steady lot of the ash and the tiny sandy grit 'rain-ah' but it's not falling farther than her base.

It's going to be hot again - so - I'm ready if she is.

A little action just started - around 0855 my time. Cute little eruption. Let's see what it turns into. Might want to check the web cams.

wow, that Etna sure likes to be active..
I was walking the ever quiet Haleakala rim yesterday hoping for at least a tremor.
no such luck.
You have an awesome front seat..

Ok this one is shaping up into something - I shouldn't have called 'cute'.

Getting some heavy 'booms' now with ground tremors accompanying the noise.

Not putting out a lot of ash, but, looks like lava tipping over into a new direction.

Fantastic pics & vid. Silo ... There appeared to be multiple vents at first but now just one ? Either way stay safe !

Yes this time she has gone with no warning signs. Checked her this morning at 6 am GMT and she was fine. Big flare going up on the thermals now. Will try and pop in every now and again but I am at work with no access to Gee etc.

It's getting violent now.
Looks like the new cone to the left has fallen.
I'll try to get more pic - not easy at the moment.

I was lucky just to be looking up when she 'started' - I didn't think it would amount to much - but, as I said, it's getting violent now. Lots of ground tremors. Looks like her face has changed.

Can't get to the data, looks like several people are in just flicking from camera to camera even though I warned not to do that. Site crashes so easily.

There's an idiot in a helicopter trying to get close. This pilot is INSANE!

Grounds really starting to shake now. Noise getting louder. Ash headed towards Catania.

I am watching, wish I could tell if it is rising or falling. This is a different eruption to the usual, sudden and sharp. If that helecopter gets too close he will get ash in the engine. Might be getting good film though.

Thank you so much Silo13 for the pictures, videos and updates. It wonderful that an ATS member shares this info since news teams are told what they can and cannot share with the public.

Her ash output now is very dark, almost black. Flare at about 400 m high, perhaps much higher as it is difficult to see with the smoke.
