I think we (normal, rational thinking people) can all agree that Fox news, as well as the rest of the MSM have some sort of political leaning, can we not?

Ok, that out of the way, do we not realize what is REALLY going on here?

Slowly but surely, conservatism is being demonized. Conservatives are being labeled crazy, loons, radical, on and on and on.

It will have two effects if this continues:

1) If you are Conservative, you immediately have a negative stigma attached to you.

2) If you are a Conservative, and realize these tactics, you will shut up more often. You are less likely to speak your true views. (the average citizen at least)

I say this as a middle of the road kind of person. My political ideologies are all over the board. I probably have a leaning one way or the other, but I honestly try not to focus on that.

This story can be summed up very simply: Fox news bad. Other news good.

More and more this dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric coming from places like FOX News, or various talk radio hosts are not only pushing panic over civil dialogue and comprehension but furthering to incite a group that, thanks to the massive fear-mongering efforts of late, feel a violent conflict is almost inevitable.

Selling this "doomsday" scenario to the public day in and day out could/will have damaging results on the American people as a whole, as the divide continues and people are literally terrified that America is about to be destroyed and their enslavement is imminent.

It's funny how see doesn't explain what groups he was in. She doesn't give any names of the alleged groups. She sounds like one of those mothers that doesn't want to admit that her son did these things and wants to put all the blame on Fox News instead of her son where it should be.

Do you mean the same big government that is right now controlled by the democratic party? And do you mean the same big corporate oligarchs like GM that the government now owns 60% of?

Yeah, since he isn't responisible for his own actions, he has to blame someone, right?

As much as I loathe Faux News, this ^^^ hit it on the head.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Video games don't kill people, people kill people. The internet doesn't kill people, people kill people... etc etc etc all the way to Faux News doesn't kill people, people kill people.

I would love it if tomorrow everyone decided they would take responsibility for themselves but that's not planet Earth unfortunately

Nothing odd about a son who seems to live with his 81 year old mom, either. I bet he lives in the basement playing violent video games and watching Fox News!

You're right about this too actually ( I deny your sarcasm lol). This is 10,000 more times more compassionate than the people who put 81 year old mom in the nursing home till she croaks while they take the house for themselves!! AmIright?? Now if she is a spry ol' lady and he really is living in the basement wearing tightie wighties all day and watching Fox News... that's odd right there lol

Freedom of speech is alright as long as it is speech you agree with

And this is true too on a huge scale... political parties play this card like it's the only one they've got...

I can agree with that remark, because it is truth - it IS the only card they have to play.

I think its SICK. Here a guy gets a release (probobally even a apology of all things), despite making a mockery of attempting to blow up a airliner and causing a in-flight airliner to be escorted by 2x F16 Fighters to the ground.

Yet this kid simply makes a few remarks simply because in what he believes in, and is punished by the book for a crime he hasn't even commited.

Yes, we must stop the evil Fox News! Lets ban them!

The left has decided that since they can't seem to convert conservatives its time to attack them and make them look like racists and domestic terrorists.

It is obvious by the link you provided that rawstory.com has a liberal agenda they are promoting.

rawstory.com...
This post by Dr. Matt kind of clued me in. Its the first post at the bottom of the article

Conservatism IS terrorism.

Wake up America, we must abort this perverse, sick disease called conservatism.

Conservatism is like a plague that goes against the very quintessence of human adaptation.

Conservatism is the evil that plagues our country and planet.

We should be at war with conservatism.

Conservatism is perverse ideology.

Conservatism must be aborted.

Followed by this reply from scytherius

Amen @Dr. Matt.

It is time we declared war against these people, these teabaggers, these terrorists. And NO I don't mean taking up arms and shooting anyone. We must be extremely intolerant of their ideology. We outnumber them by the millions. We must do all can to mobilize, march, scream, yell and remain ever intolerant of the Rot that is Conservatism.

Well HE is anyway.... As the article says he has a history of mental issues...

His mom on the other hand is simply in denial and does not want to admit that her son screwed up big time, and is wanting to place the blame on anyone but her son...

I agree, placing the blame for his actions on a "news" channel, is silly and ludicrous.

This guy screwed up and he alone is responsible for his own actions so lay off the mom... She like any other mom would be, is in denial... that her son is at fault....

But really, would you like to know that YOUR son threatened a politician like that? I wouldn't either... Give the lady a break.

I Find it the most disgusting when people On both sides can't seperate real life from politics. A tragic case like this should never be uses as a political football. Shame on everyone who takes advantage of this propaganda.

Blame Fox all you want. I am not here to defend them, but the idea of blaming a media source.

But facts are it is only a matter of time (if it has not happened already) before we see in the headlines or a new agency say “Mom says ATS gave son the idea”. Seriously you cannot blame the media unless you blame all media for everything in the world.

ATS could be a very dangerous play ground for the mentally insane.

I agree. Blaming any type of violence on a media source including Fox News or ATS is dangerous. Certain media sources might end up on some domestic terrorist watch list because they are deemed to be promoting violence against the government. Individuals should be held accountable for their actions and thats it. You can't try to hurt someone and blame Glenn Beck.

I don't like where we are heading. Maybe some media control laws a la Venezuela.

At least you understand my point.

If we start allowing this sort of thing to take place it can only get worse for all of use eventually.

The media source is not my concern so much as it is some nut case doing something stupid and then his/her family looking to blame something. When they are handed a scapegoat they will run with it and so will any in government who might not agree with the message.

This sort of thing has ATS written all over it. Given all that has taken place in the news the past year I expect to hear about ATS in a negative manner on the news before long as being associated with a nut case and of course ATS being the blame of whatever he/she has done.

The kid had a mental disorder, I think that's being overlooked for the Fox. His mom should be a parent instead of blaming a third party. I love how people bash Fox blindly, when clearly the kid is a whackjob and the mother is negligent. News is a product, if you don't like it then advocate for government run media...I'm sure that will work out as fair...or you can just watch MSNBC and get liberal bias. My point is, all news is bias to an extent, but I highly doubt Fox had a lick to do with this case, especially if his mom is the one saying it...

Agreed, I live with my 76 year old father with my wife and daughter. This is because I am the youngest sibling and therefore I beleve it is my responsibility to look after him in his old age. I share all bills (although to be fair I do save on rent, as the house is fully owned) and we all get on fine, other than the obvious arguments about control of the TV remote

In reality, we live upstairs, he lives downstairs. Nothing strange about that, especially in this time of financial crisis.

As for the thread, I agree that you can't blame the media for the loons in our society.

You are saying that not me.

I say we hold them accountable for what they say or don't let them claim to be a legitimate news agency.

I'm not even saying they are evil, they're just as opportunistic as any other news agency, but they do tend to flagrantly ignore the facts and willfully mislead the public.

They are so brazen that they rarely correct their own outrageous claims that prove to be false. This is especially dangerous when people who DO consider them a news agency buy into their fear-mongering and alarmist rhetoric.

In an attempt to get ratings, and to push the conservative anti-Obama agenda, they are becoming more and more vicious and this reckless approach to news is irresponsible.

Clearly they are biased and don't try and hide it. To me that is fine, just be responsible with what you put out into the public arena as a fact.

Look what happened with that James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles ACORN tape.

When fully viewed it was VERY clear that they not only misrepresented the facts but outright LIED about what we going on. FOX spread this lie over and over again.

After dealing with the Attorney General of California who made a deal with them to avoid prosecution if they turned over the unedited tapes, they later start to come clean.

Hannah Giles Explains Those Pimp and Prostitute Outfits

We never claimed that he went in with a pimp costume,” said Giles. “That was b-roll. It was purely b-roll. He was a pimp, I was a prostitute, and we were walking in front of government buildings to show how the government was whoring out the American people.” Washington Independent

*my bolds

- No advice about being a good prostitute, it was actually about housing.
- No walking in off the streets in a pimp and pro outfit, that was added later.
- No (real) advice about child prostitution and human trafficking, the employee just wanted information and then called the police.

What sort of News agency airs some heavily edited attack piece on an organization without first viewing the film in its entirety and reviewing the facts themselves?

This is not "fair and balance" nor proper investigative journalism.
It's irresponsible and cost people their jobs thanks to this "Hannity exclusive".

What is FOX going to do about this?

Sky News is Fox News (just the U.K. division), or more correctly Fox News is Sky News (Sky News actually came first). They're sister channels owned by the same former-Australian media mogul, Rupert Murdoch.

As to the OP, regardless of his mother's pushing off the blame on Fox, I'm just glad this man is off the streets. He clearly has issues beyond what sources he gets his "news" from.

How predictable. I suppose this is what Obama was hoping for by constantly attacking his critics in public from day ONE. It was bound to rub off on the kool aid groupies some time. Just another whack on the wedge that is dividing this nation.

I've seen enough garbage concerning Fox News. I'm sure her son never frequented sites like ATS!!!! Gimme a flippin break. Let's see how well this argument holds up in court.

I officially blame MSNBC, The White House and Media Matters for aggravating the pre-existing mental illnesses of those who support Obama without question in regards to his policies and agenda advancement. Sounds pretty stupid eh??

Watch that first step off the cliff, It's a doozy....

After reading posts like these it strengthens my view that there is no hope for America. People just sit back and believe whatever the idiot box tells them. It's no wonder the country is in the state it's in now.
