Also, I just remembered something important. When the earthquake in Southern California struck, somebody on ATS was saying to expect another big earthquake in the next couple of days due to there being more solar activity heading our way. I can't remember where I saw it, but I will search.

There was heavy solar activity. Last night people on shortwave radio and HAM's were telling everyone radio was "WIPED OUT" due to HEAVY solar conditions.

It's like my radio was being hit by the sun directly.

It's dying down now though.

It's been over 50 minutes and THERE ARE NO AFTERSHOCKS!!!!

I find this extremely odd, and a bit disturbing. Hope there is nothing bigger to come.

Um yeah that is cause for concern.

Hopefully anything coming will be smaller than what we already saw.

Can anyone confirm there has been no aftershocks?

I guess I can go pull up the usgs site and figure it out myself, lol.

I posted this on the last page. Read the people without the avatar images too!

Reuters bulletin for 3 aftershocks. They are only 5.0, 4.9 and 5.1 magnitudes.

Thanks, another friend offered me that as you did. lol.

Ok so Westcoast, you are in trouble! You said there was no aftershocks...

I am not surprised.

There is a legitimate controversy brewing over whether the Sun's activity is directly related to Earth's tectonic activities.

Earthquakes of 7.0 and greater since 1900.

This is number 6 for 2010.

[edit on 4/6/2010 by Phage]

This is the first time I have disagreed with you. Most people know that Earthquake rating is exponential, so this data is a little off. Earthquakes are also rarer as they go higher in the scale. To do a more accurate graph, it should be somewhere around 7.3 to 7.5 and up. That may mean that this year is still average, but it would be more accurate results.

Is your graph depicting after shocks? I remember there where a few 7.0 aftershocks in Chile.

I see. I'm surprised more research has not been done on this considering how often this is happening. The next time major solar activity is shown to be coming and is to last for a couple of days, somebody should make an earthquake prediction thread. It could be the first prediction thread on ATS to actually come true.

Well, I go to the USGS for all my info. I consider them the fastest and most accurate. I know that they have computer generated listings for anything over 2.5 and stil there is NOTHING listed on the site except for the continuing aftershocks in BAJA.

Here's a little snippet from 1618 PST:

Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days

Latest Earthquakes Magnitude 2.5 or Greater in the United States and Adjacent Areas and Magnitude 4.5 or Greater in the Rest of the World - Last 7 days
Versión en Español

This list contains all earthquakes with magnitude greater than 2.5 located by the USGS and contributing networks in the last week (168 hours). Magnitudes 4.5 and above are in bold font. Magnitudes 6 and above are in red. (Some early events may be obscured by later ones on the maps.)

The most recent earthquakes are at the top of the list. Times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Click on the word "map" to see a ten-degree tall map displaying the earthquake. Click on an event's "DATE" to get a detailed report.

DISCLAIMER

If you cannot see the list, Click here to go to the top of the list.

I am no expert at earthquakes and the such but to me when the experts say that one earthquake does not affect other parts of the world, example plate movement and shifting I don't believe it. It seems to me that one plate moving on one side of the earth would have to affect other plates around the world. To use installing a floor as a bad example, if you misalign one floor tile then the rest of the room is off no matter how much grout you put in between the tiles. One tile or plate has to be connected to the other via the sub floor or the crust of the earth. I know been thinking to much today, LOL.

Look at the frequency of earthquakes during the 1940s and during when Isreal was reborn and World War 2.
Birth pangs the Bible calls them as the earth reacts with what we do and how it climaxes in the end times. Maybe with Iran around the corner and all these other threats to humans and nature maybe the Earth will bite back plague us with wakeup calls.

Aye, I can add to this. Weather.com's Caribbean satelite has been frozen all day. In the last 24 hours we've gotten heavy solar winds.

Thanks for the update. I was just teasing you

But yeah it takes time for us to get good information, I was about to freak out with you too. haha.

Oh, my wife's friend informed us that he believes Baja is on the direct other side of the earth. The word he used was Antipodal.

They are on nearly exact opposite sides of the earth. Almost exactly.

So how can this be? That the two quakes are antipodal within just 30-40hours timespan?

I doubt it is a coincidence.

I just got home and turned on CNN and heard about the earthquake. Interestingly, this is what I heard (paraphrasing):

Wolf Blitzer: The earthquake in Haiti, Southern California, Indonesia -- People are saying these are just coincidences, but I'm not buying it.
Jack Cafferty: I don't know, maybe somebody is trying to tell us something?

Why would they said this? Is there something they know that we don't? This aired between 3:40 and 3:50 PST, so if anybody can find it, record it, and upload it to YouTube or elsewhere, that would be great.

Wolf Blitzer would turn a hangnail story into "The entire planet has broken in half! We are all going to DIE!" He loves to add drama and pump a story up big time..

On the other hand, a 7.8 is HUGE! But Wolf acts like it was a 39.4mag

How about 8.0+? (I had it handy)

(Actually, magnitude scales are logarithmic, not exponential. Not exactly the same.)

You gotta be KIDDING me???

There was a 7.0 and 7.9 in BAJA just in the last 2 hours???

This has to be wrong??!!

The way those are laid out is misleading. That is the depth. THe mags are the first numbers on the far left!

Yeah I figured that out when I was like "HOW IS IT 39.6!!"

Then I read the top part (the key) and realized it was set that way.
