UPDATE:

One attacker was able to blow up in the U.S. Consulate premises, AAJ TV reported April 5. The front side of the U.S. Consulate has been totally destroyed. Reports of seven or eight security personnel in the Consulate are dead. The Consulate’s communication system is down.

The bombing took place in the same area where several American military personnel were killed earlier this year, in a bomb attack at the opening of a girls’ school.

Someone's head needs to roll over this. WTF are those morons doing? They can't run a security operation at a consulate?

Someone gets in and blows up in the same place it just happened before? How incompetent can you be.

4 bombs target US Consulate in NW Pakistan

Militants exploded four bombs in quick succession Monday close to the US Consulate in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, police and witnesses said. Gunfire was briefly heard close to the heavily guarded and fortified building in Peshawar, said police officer Aziz Khan.

Two of the blasts took place around 20 yards (meters) from the main entrance to the building, an Associated Press reporter close to the scene said. Huge plumes of smoke rose high into the air. TV footage of one of the blasts suggested it was a car bomb. (AP)

This has to end and it really has to end now. If they can't beat 'em, Get outta there and leave them alone to fight it amongst each other.

The entire Af-Pak region is a mess. The reason is because you have the following warring parties :Afghan Taliban of Mullah Omar faction (aka Quetta Shura), the Hezb-e-Islami of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the Lashkar-E-Zil or the Shadow Army of Ilyas Kashmiri, the notorious Islamic movement of Uzbekistan and finally, the Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan. You can even add the CIA and the Blackwater playing their own little game there. Every faction is trying to outmaneuver the other in this new great game of this region and violence is just a way of getting things done as far as these factions are concerned.

Are the Americans Dragging it out for some unknown reason?
Yes. To understand what the west is doing in Afghanistan, we have to forget the idea that the conflict is an isolated series of events that only relate to events about Afghanistan. It is part of a strategy.
The overall strategy is basically set out in the PNAC manifesto: to take control of ME oil. It hardly matters who is buying or selling it, just so long as oil is being sold for US$. This is essential to keep the crippled US economy afloat.
The main world player that could challenge this status quo is China. Oh look! Afghanistan is the country between China & Iran. What is the PRC's military strength? Its land forces. Ah, put NATO land forces between the 2 countries & it becomes possible to threaten Iran without worrying about the kind of Chinese support we've seen in Korea & N Viet Nam, because the Chinese would have to engage NATO forces directly in order to reinforce Iran, possibly triggering WW3.
This is why the USA went to Afghanistan 1st & only then moved into Iraq.
My guess is that the USA will attempt to tempt Iran into a flagrant intervention in Iraq, providing an excuse to invade. Of course, there are many multiple avenues being persued against Iran, but whichever finally becomes most successful, it remains essential to divide China from Iran.
