Location of Sighting: Newbury Berkshire
Date of Sighting: 14/03/2010
Time: 19:06

Witness Statement: I had stepped outside for a cigarette and was testing out my new camcorder on a plane when I noticed an incredibly bright star like ufo heading north east directly above my head. I observed for approximately 80 seconds then began to film. It looked like a bright star with no sound. You can see the footage here:

Interesting video and actually filmed good which is weird. Too bad the object is too far away. I don't really know what to make of this sighting. It definitely looks fishy.

Any thoughts?

It could be a helicopter.

It's a pretty good distance from the person filming it, so you wouldn't necessarily hear the noise from it, and the way it moved reminded me of a helicopter hovering.

If not, I don't know what it was.

Interesting stuff, thanks for posting. S&F

It sure looks like the ISS to me.
Description sounds like a typical ISS pass.

I think it's the ISS.

OP, Out of interest what type camcorder are you using ?
I am waiting out to purchase a Sony 1000E with IR settings, Is your setup IR ? pity you did not follow the UFO but maybe next time Happy sky watching matey...
S&F good effort

Edit to add:
This is a photograph i had taken whilst at work on the back shift, It was definitely an aeroplane coming into land at Aldergrove Int, The main landing lights blocked out the navigation lights, Just an example of camera
distortion...
The bottom left are the yard lights just to put in to focus how low she was.

I've see the ISS a few times and sometimes when I've seen it it has a greenish tint to it, do you know why that may be?

I see an increase in this kind of Vids on youtube..

Atleast this object he talks about is plainly visible on the night sky, I know cause I see it, and I told my wife a few weeks ago: Look at Mars, it is very bright..

hehe, she said: but, isnt that Mars
and pointed to another red start much farther to the left...

I don't know.
I've never noticed that.

It appears that Phage called it correctly:

No way to confirm it 100%, but the objects in this and the video in the OP are quite similar.

Phage.....

I agree that it looks like the ISS.

Do you have time to check if the time correlates with an ISS pass?

I'm looking at "Heavens Above" now, but, I'm not so fast at working that out as yet.

I've got the chart for London, but I can't see how to backdate the time.

Kind regards

Yes, this is probably the ISS, as you can see, this one is moving !!
This other one isnt moving, if you have a clear night sky, and you go out and look, you will see two red stars/planets, one of the is Mars, so what is the other red one ?

As far as I know we have only one red planet, on the outside/nightside of Earth...

Ahhh, sorry, I totally missed the thread entirely....

There was a very bright (-3.3) ISS pass over Newbury on March 14th. The time of the pass was around 18:40.

An actual timestamp on the video would be nice.

On the 15th there was a pass at 19:07.

Phage.....

Well, that has to be it.....I'm sure.

Is "Heavens Above" the best application for this?

Kind regards

I have no doubt Phage has given us the correct explanation, but I just wonder as to why there seems to be a disproportionate movement for the ISS, when the house is in view as well?

It seems a tad out of sync.

But, maybe it's just me.

Just to add: I know the ISS is heading towards the horizon. That's not the movement I'm referring to. To me, there seems to be disproportionate movement when the camera shakes whilst having the house and the ISS in the same frame.

Does anybody else notice this, or do I need to have a cup of tea and a lie down?

I think you are seeing the results of overenthusiastic use of zoom.

For comparison here is a video I shot last year in july of the ISS on a pass from my house in Kent UK
