Your description is totally believable.

The most basic toxic heavy metal, Lead, is still found in some nail polish and many lipsticks from the giants in the beauty sector.

People under stress, who have a tendency for nail biting, can ingest lead this way.

Won't even mention lipsticks, in constant contact with the tongue.

If those companies won't follow basic toxicology guidelines for established neurotoxins, would they care for other chemicals?

Well once again, an artificially synthesized product that contains toxic, poisonous chemicals marketed for your skin or ingestion is not safe for your body and I wouldn't recommend anyone subscribe to their regular uses just because the FDA labels' the ingredients as GRAS or "Generally Recognized as Safe".

Like The_Seeker mentioned, in the overall beauty market there are very little of those products that should be applied to the skin. The skin is a two way street, excreting and absorbing whatever is readily applied to it. So whether it's your regular application of "pit stick" to the underarm, conveniently local to your major lymph system, or Oil of Olay's revitalizing night cream on your face; they should not be used and alternatives should be sought out.
