I am out of benefits and now living off my savings and hubbies disability. We have limited health coverage and he has to wait another year before he can get medicare.

There are so many places that demand experience and arn't willing to train, are too far away to travel to even if they did hire you, you need some kind of degree, are too technical, you need to be bilingual etc. These are just some of the problems. Even the fast food joints and factories are filled with kids who have graduated high school, older people who cannot aford to retire, or illegals.

For the many who are in my position, I wish you well my friends.

Here in South Carolina, we are already having major problems with unemployment. My wife has n ot received her benefits in five weeks due to lack of funds. I am working, but this could be enough to push us over the edge. We may lose our house or vehicle if she is not able to find a job or get these benefits. By the way, there are no jobs available. She applied for a job on Wednesday, and there were over 200 people there to apply for one position as well.

The odds of her finding a job in the next couple of weeks are very low, even though she applies for about twenty jobs a week.

Yes russ, that is another problem people are having, too many applicants applying for the same job. It's scary! So many companies have set up in other countries or hired illegals here so they could pay cheap wages. So we end up left in the dust.

I'm going to be 52 and am competing with kids out of school, older people who are holding on to their positions because they cannot possibly afford to retire, and all those like myself. There just arn't enough jobs.

Wow,

You guys are scaring the living crap out of me...

I lost my Job as a cab driver about a year ago, was unemployed and scrambled to find a job for three months, eventually found one as a custodian forced to cram 8 hours worth of work into 5, my hours are flipped all over the place and I only get 16 hours a week normally.

I went form making 100 to 300 a day to 350 every two weeks. Luckily My father saw this coming 15 years ago so we moved to Mexico were land is cheap and when stuff gets rough you just steal the utilities.

Please I beg you Home owners to take my advice....

Just let the house go, please! Just let it go, stop letting that damned mortgage suck you dry. Stop paying live in it till they toss you out and save that money. All you need is two months not paying and you can buy a nice little RV. Make sure to put the full payed used RV into your wife's or sons name so it can't be claimed as collateral for your dept and you will make it through this.

Stop paying the damned house!

USE YOUR HEAD DAMNITALL!!

That house will never be yours, it's a rat race, an illusion.

We all need to build a new HooverVille and survive!

Night Star,
I wish you well. My post isn't directed at you or people who are in your situation, but, your statement reinforces the point that I am going to try to make.

Those jobs that you speak of that you are not qualified for are my problem with unemployment extensions. The people who are qualified for them are not applying for them because they are getting those extensions.

My company is trying to fill several positions. I know people who are out of work and are qualified for these positions, but, as long as their unemployment holds out they won't apply. I know that other companies who are in the same situation. There are hundreds if not thousands of these people out there. They are reducing the pool of government money availible to people like you.

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Sen. Thomas Coburn (R-OK)

You are absolutely right. Republicans know that most gun owners are rightwingers, and they are counting on THEIR obstruction to goad YOU into violent revolt, so that THEY can return to government and funnel billions of dollars into the pockets of their corporate owners.

They already KNOW that rightwingers with guns all hate government and lefties, so they just need to push the situation a little bit to get YOU going, and as the brainwashed corporate slaves YOU are, you will go out and get the republicans back in power.

The republican party actually thinks you are that dumb. Maybe you are, maybe you are not, but that is what is going on.

I'm sure someone has done a post about this in the past but Obama care is stripping this country down to nothing. Now he wants to kick the people that are already down by taking away the little financial support they get in such hard economic times. I'm not preaching just wanted to show my feelings towards this man.

This subject has nothing to do with Obama. The dems want to extend benefits but the repubs are against it. The is is about what goes on in congress, not the white house.

As for 'Obamacare'. You do realize that the US healthcare system is on average 3 times as expensive as the average european system while delivering care that ranks half as good. In simplistic terms that means you pay 6 times more for your healthcare than you ought to. In 10 years, the US healthcare system was projected to cost 5 times as much as the average european systems while still ranking half as good. In simplistic terms that would mean that on average, the US healthcare system would cost 10 times as much as the average european system.

If anything, Obamacare is going to increase quality and reduce expenditure while making sure that current insurance practises are reformed. How that means 'stripping this country down to nothing' is difficult to see.

When you say that you just want to show your feelings about Obama, while laying the blame for republican partisan politics on him, in a thread about benefit extensions in congress, then you are grasping for straws.

buddy of mine has been on unemployment for like a year..he is a convicted felon so not only does he have to deal with unemployment rate, but also the background check.
His unemployment stopped last month.

I am wondering if the unemployment rate lowering this last month is from people no longer claiming (able to claim).

my personal opininion is just this. being a business owner and not being able to collect unemployment, and slowly selling everything that i own to make it. maybe this half a million people who lose there benifits will finally feel my pain and start getting angry about this asanine crap that has been going on since around 2008! what is the masons motto? order out of chaos, well how about real change with american finally having enough!

But how can this be?

I mean, when Republican Senator Bunning delayed the vote for three days, simply pushing the government to find the money to extend benefits, he was called every name in the book -- by the opposing party and by members on ATS.

Here is the wake up call. There is no distinction between the two parties at this juncture, and it should become apparent to everyone watching that the American people mean nothing to this administration [Democrats & Republicans].

What's a few missed meals for a few American families so long as our government officials get their much-needed Spring Break?

Why all the Wars. Can't we take some of that money we give to Israel and keep it on this side of the world?...

Or how about some of that 28 trillion dollars Bloomberg reported being used by the Ben Screwing You Bernake to give to foreign banks? That makes sense b/c...

We live in a FASCIST STATE. Money goes to the Banksters and MIC, but all the debt goes to the people. Corporate profits and public debt.

Remember when the TARP was passed, it was supposed to go to helping homeowners pay off their loans. The Long Leggd Mack Daddy stopped his campaign to pimp for his Bankster Buddies. Remember....

This is just more proof that our current government system doesn't give a rats butt about us Americans. They have taken our jobs away now we are dependant on their system of control-letting them hold our purse strings. What a crock of shiznit !
Why won't Obama help us ? He sure wasn't scared to help out the rich elite pricks who allready had it made and didn't really need help. Unless he doe's something good for the American people soon-maybe if the wheels of karma would get spinning quickly he will get a wake up call of conscience(if he actually has one-I doubt it at this point). The people running our country has made it suck to be an American. I regret voting for Obama-he only cares about his elite puppet masters !
I am done ranting now-Peace

My Post*

Ok so the unemployment runs out, can't by food anymore, can't afford your place of residence, and can't even begin to think about how to pay for your new health care coverage.

All creatures of this planet have one major thing in common, the will to SURVIVE. I for one can tell you that if my job and money goes I will be that guy you see pulling into the nearest gas staion busting open that ATM and taking what I need, an the best part is everyone on this fourm dam well know's they would do the same. They can say all they want that they would never resort to that, but your self concious mind is going to make you survive even if it goes against every thing you beleive in. So people please be very careful if unemployment goes on April 5th. Without unemployment benifits you will see the crime rate in every city go sky rocketing, but the worst part is the people you respect and care about will be the ones doing the crimes and I for one am not going to be the person standing in the way of someone's will to survive.

Thanks for reading

I know many homeowners that have taken in an unemployed person that now helps pay the mortgage. Imagine that income is taken and now the homeowner has to foreclose.

A guy down the road from me has been paying for his home for 10 years, never missed a payment. He lost his job and fell a month behind. Unable to make up the missed month but continually paying, the bank is taking his home.

Then he can't afford his house and should have bought a cheaper one.. or he should have rented.

this upsets me... my country has failed me, my country has failed everyone.
I am upset, and angry...

and this is probably the same feeling as everyone else....

Forefathers, where art thee!?

Your forefathers would tell you and everyone else to stfu and go get jobs. They would say you have failed your country just as much by being reliant on it to live your life.

People on unemployment milk it and are sucking our country dry. It needs to be reformed! There is no reason why people should stop taking lesser jobs because unemployment pays about as much and they dont need to do work.

Our coutry is filled with lazy slobs and pigs. Maybe stopping checks for a few weeks will help with some of the obesity rates also.

Unemployment was put out there for a good reason and it has its uses. People who have been on it for a year just make me sick though.

28 trillion.. lol.

I'm sure you mean 28 trillion in exposure or something else, which is completely different.

I'm against giving money like that in the 1st place but it's necessary in a fiat system. And obviously I'm against a fiat system but you have to realize that central bank need to do those kinds of things to maintain the currency.

But really, people should try to understand these things before they form opinions on them.

EG there's over a quadrillion $ of derivatives in the world. obviously that much money doesn't even exist. the way you get @ that figure is A enters a swap with B and B with C and C with D.. the 'real' money in derivatives is just the difference in payments. quadrillion is only notional.

like if i give you $100, you give me $110, you give that $100 to someone else and they give you $95, the difference is only $15, which is the 'real' money. the quadrillion figure would be like saying there's $405. in reality, we could all make bets on this and only $15 would be exchanged and $390 of it doesn't even have to exist.

yet, plenty of people hear the quadrillion figure and let their opinion form on that out of ignorance. you citing 28 trillion is similar to multiplying the real figure there by 8.

i mean, bernanke could probably buy half of europe with that amount of money. come on, think people..

I honestly can't understand why many Americans seem to be calling for extensions on unemployment benefits

On one hand its "damned if that bastard Obama will push his socialist policies on me", the next its "oh please, we need unemployment benefits extended"...

Do you want socialist policies or not ? I mean, make up your minds already for chrissakes...

All people gotta do is organize poor people's campaigns to storm the rich neighborhoods demanding money. Well just go door to door and "campaign" for donations.

I worked in the nonprofit sector for 20 years -- part-time. The whole industry is just the working class going door to door asking for donations -- professional beggars -- but it's tax-free -- and a deduction for the rich. Then the poor use that money to lobby congress -- be it environmental or social justice. Most of the money is spent on rent and alcohol and food.

i swear thats what it looks like

WTF!?

Well, allegedly the vast majority (or so we're told) of Americans hate socialism.

Unemployment payments are socialism.

"Why should my tax dollars be used to pay people who don't want to work?" suddenly seems like a cruel thing to say when it suddenly affects YOU.

Interestingly, however, benefits have been extended, despite your claim of Republican obstruction, all the way up until now -- when both sides were in a rush to break for vacation.

Further, Bunning should not be included in this group at all, since he was in favor of extensions -- as is the Republican party as a whole -- but opposed to NOT paying for them -- which was Obama's pay-as-you-go initiative.

This subject has nothing to do with Obama. The dems want to extend benefits but the repubs are against it. The is is about what goes on in congress, not the white house.

This is simply not true and further shows the success that our current politicians are having at dividing this country.

This has everything to do with Obama. It is his pay-as-you-go directive that the Republicans are insisting he own up to. Simply because Obama chooses when and if HIS directive is followed, does not make it right. Rather, it gave BOTH sides issues to hold on to:

Unaccountable/unfunded spending [Repubs.)
Never ending extensions (Dems)
Unemployment benefits fund that has run dry (R & D)
Pushing the American people to divide and scramble (R & D)

If anything, Obamacare is going to increase quality and reduce expenditure while making sure that current insurance practises are reformed. How that means 'stripping this country down to nothing' is difficult to see.

You really need to actually read the entire bill. It does nothing to increase quality at all. In fact, the doctors and the medical association has already stated that quality will inevitably go down since you are now adding a boat load of people into an already strapped situation -- people that don't have the means to pay for benefits and are receiving subsidized treatment. This is not a measure that adds money into the system, but further drains what little there already is. I hardly think that waiting longer for appointments and treatments (see the average wait time in Massachusetts before & after; and Canada) improves quality.

You can make many favorable arguments for the idea of healthcare reform, unfortunately better quality treatments are not one of the them. For anybody.

When you say that you just want to show your feelings about Obama, while laying the blame for republican partisan politics on him, in a thread about benefit extensions in congress, then you are grasping for straws.

Both sides are to blame. Period.

Obama lost the democratic majority that allows Republicans to hold out.
Obama issued the pay-as-you-go directive with the full support of the democratic party which is what the Republicans are able to hold onto.
Republicans want benefits extended with a receipt showing where the money came from.
Democrats want to extend benefits without having to pull money from any other program.
Both wanted vacation.

How is this not a joint effort by both parties to systematically divide the american people and further heighten tensions in an already on the brink society?
