I'm sick of this stereotyping and bigotry. This is no better or no more truthful than saying all Muslims are terrorists or all Jews are rich businessman.

I do not study new age as you assume. I study ancient civilizations, specifically the origins of beliefs, myths, cultures, religions and sciences from every civilization up to our modern era. I have studied nearly every religion on the planet So your assumption is incorrect, and your research is severly lacking by a galaxy. With over 400 books on my book shelf ALL read cover to cover, including no less than 9 kjv bibles in which I use separate from one another for the sake of highlighting different aspects of the faith. Did you even finish reading your ONE Bible yet?? I can tell you haven't by your posts.

My favourite food for thought that I like to feed to Christians is the possibility that the devil wrote the Bible. Or at least, influenced the writing and/or translation of the Bible. The Bible was supposedly written by man, so therefore (again, according to the Christian belief) the writer had free will to write what the devil was telling him, or to just be influenced by the devil. This is mostly to confront people taking what is said in the Bible literally, and to confront the numerous loopholes that 'allow' Christians to commit atrocities.

TL,DR: The devil could have written the Bible (if indeed the devil exists)

In my opinion, I think religions we made for the purpose to control the minds of people for power. All through history, power comes from having people "follow" others, and what better way than to "know" God and his words.

Now don't get me wrong, I do believe in a "god" but I don't take any religion as the "know everything" religion, or written by god. I think all religions were made by man for personal gain. Look at the huge church organizations that are on TV, all they want is money. If religion is free why do they all have to pay?

Also from my personal experiences I have seen many so called "Christians" do not very nice things and them make sure they go to church every sunday. Now i'm not saying that all people that go to church are like that, but many of them do not practice what they preach.

Well, that's all fine, but it doesn't matter either way to me because I don't think something can be taken away that wasn't there in the first place.

I don't think the Bible is THE word of God and I don't think any religion has a monopoly on morality.

The problem with the "born again" philosophy, besides the fact that it is just a myth, is that it is promoted not as a spiritual change in someone's life that will create happiness, but as a way of avoiding Hell for eternity after you die. It's not about bringing people and ideas together. It's about isolation. You're either with us or against us. This creates, ironically, a very non-Christ like, intolerant view of others that do not believe in their ideology. And then there are all of the prophecies in the book of Revelation. A large portion of our population believes that Jesus is coming back in their lifetime and the "non-believers" will be "left behind."

It shouldn't be underestimated how much this belief in the "second coming" affects believers, and indirectly non-believers, lives. When you think there is a good chance you are not going to die, it has a REALLY big affect on your life goals, political beliefs, environmental appreciation and sugar consumption (no alcohol or drugs of course).

How bout we all just forget about being born again, waiting for the messiah or being rewarded with 72 virgins and start being more Christ like. Tolerant, compassionate and enlightened.

This is a great thread. I too am against all forms of organized religion.

I think you should read this article about Bicameralism.

I read the book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind and ever since, I can understand religion better. It's a leftover cultural artifact of a transitional time in our mental evolution.

According to Jaynes, ancient people in the bicameral state would experience the world in a manner that has similarities to that of a modern-day schizophrenic. Rather than making conscious evaluations in novel or unexpected situations, the person would hallucinate a voice or "god" giving admonitory advice or commands, and obey these voices without question; one would not be at all conscious of one's own thought processes per se.

After reading this theory it all makes so much more sense.

So the way I see it. Religion is obsolete. I don't need magical gods to guide my life, I gladly take the helm and all responsibility for where I steer my life and how things turn out.

Um...you're asking for a majority of humans to think rationally and act ethically.

When the hell have we ever done that?

Angel/human hybrids.

you wanna back that up?

maybe there are no bones because either the tomb is lost or he never existed

Well, virtually all historians agree that Jesus did exist, so we can throw that out the window. And when I said produce his body, I didn't mean today, rather, back then. All the Pharisees had to do to squish the Jesus movement was pull his body out of Joseph's tomb which was guarded by Romans, which they couldn't do.

well, virtually bull#
id like to see you back that up as well because i think your statements are wishfull thinking

The problem here is that you're asserting all spiritual practices as religious.

A religion, by definition requires the following:

1. Canon
2. Symbols
3. Traditions
4. Rituals

To continue, many religions seem to enjoy throwing in Dogma as a 5th necessity, though there are examples of otherwise, such as Hinduism, which actually actively promotes the learning and sharing of spiritual beliefs. Most of the more traditional branches of Buddhism are similar in this fashion as well.

And remember, it's a theory, not fact. I actually find that rather interesting. I've heard a lot of explanations for the development of spirituality and culture, and this one is certainly unique.

I hitch hiked around in 1971 and was moving across the southern tier via Interstate 10 when a band of Christians took me hostage.

That's an exaggeration, barely, but I needed a ride and they sung praises and blessed every yard we traveled. After a few hours of this I was half-crazy and when they asked if I wanted to become more christian, I said no. (we were a lot closer to where I was going.)

The principle amener challenged my unwillingness to see the light. I advised him that I was uncertain as to too many things including myself to just believe. He said he felt very sure as to his faith.

I asked him to quote a part of the scripture that he felt was part of his bedrock beliefs, a core tenet. He told me a tract. much to the rapt attention of the adherents then present and me because I said, "Do you have a bible?"

Oh yes, they did. I then read him the passage and he didn't have it quite right and essentially he had given me a personalized version which while close was not dead accurate. His truth had varied.

He vowed to become more humble. I said that I was happy knowing that I will never know it all.

I'm still acting like a know-it-all but then I know better.

I have several religious friends and many more who are agnostic like myself.

In each debate or argument with religious zealots in the past few years I've stuck with one question/argument that they have never been able to directly answer. One that addresses several points at once:

Is the Bible to be taken literally? If the answer is yes: I should stone people, consider women lower forms of life, sleep with siblings, condemn people who don't support my view, and generally be what modern society considers a morally bad person.

If the Bible is not to be taken literally (ie: "this passage means anslation>) then how can you be sure the Bible is correct in any way? If you have to translate the point a document is trying to make, one that is supposedly perfect and Divine, in order to find a lesson of morality: then the source material in itself is inherently flawed.

I've gotten all sorts of answers, but no one is willing to say that it should be followed directly, and that it's lessons are ones I should adopt upon myself, but they won't admit that the way it's translated could be potentially wrong, insisting it's the Word of God.

...So as far as I can tell it's the "Word of God" as translated by man...and Man is certainly capable of mistakes.

Hello, I'm Christian and I would like you to consider my top ten points, as it applies to living our lives. (Did you enjoy the "We are all slaves / We are ready for love" song on American Idol last night)? Who are WE? I'll simply say that the Iranian woman praying to Allah for peace tonight is also my sister under God.

1. The ruling bodies of the world are founded on the principles of satanic principles, as evidenced by the middle and upper eschelons of the freemason pyrimids, orders such as the Royal British Society, and on. Ideology rules development, form follows function, greater than the building is the blueprint, and greaer than the blueprint was the thought. The pyramid keeps good-intentioned people low, and offers ascendance to those who open doors than no moral person is allowed to look behind.

2. Our democrocies were afforded by noble sacrifice, but were still molded by a master plan against those freedoms, hundreds of years in the making, and we are now immersed in a culture built to institute a new world order which most people won't wake up to because of Culture. Cultural war is the conflict that swallows 100% of many peoples emotion, good effort, great hopes, and high wagers. You lose 99 times out of a hundred in western society, and the odds decrease the bigger the lottery and the more people involved. According to traditional methods, you can Buy your way our of cultural prisons (Stairway to Heaven, a little understanding Zep action), Know enough to step aside it (ie. this forum and others), or be Winsome in the face of it (achieve fame and societies love while openly giving it the nod or the stamp of approval).

3. Western Culture is a chaotic threshing-wheel of fads, puppet-news, endless entertainment, slave time-control, unbridled hedonism, and endless conflict. War is 90% cultural, 10% physical, is a wake-up point for many. Partisan interests show coke and pepsi, dems and feds, liberals and conservatives, Elle or Macleans but are 50%/50% vested interests in the outcome from the companies who run the show. They don't care who wins our fad wars, or who we put in power. Our circus society is a constant, fluid-as-war cross-cutting of otherwise healthy interest into Our Own partisan policies which leads to shunning, strife, hatred, war, labels, and ultimately divide and conquer against citizens. War is not your friend, and violence begets violence.

4. At the top of culture, and to be a "Cultural King" you have to ascend through the gay issue, which slaps you in the face and tells you to look elsewhere. Or you can go through the military channels and take up the role of trained killer, loving their machines and their drills, advocating deadly skills in plave of diplomacy, forgiveness and reason. Or you can go the second-place route of the freedom-loving, sleep-with-as-many-people as you can macho route, which despite it's abhorrance to anything with might resemble "chivalry" has it's full nod from the system. All three (and many other side-movements) promote intolerance, immorality, conformity, and ignorance. We are conditioned to cut each other to pieces, or disregard cultural afflictions such as these to the detriment of the individual. They rule by fear, alas with all the chipping, nanotechnology, etc it should free some people of their previous fears. Nanotechnology in plastic garbage bins and Keloggs Ink! What will they think of next.

5. Our cultures are actually RULED by SOCIALISM, which protects itself through criminal activity (there's the full circle point to return to), agencies of power, corporate secrecy, walls of propeganda, and legal control. History repeats itself, tyrants are overcome, but they leave a reign of terror. Technology is in their hands, the poor yet common march to the hope of a faded Constitution or other federal law which they probably burn their human sacrifices with copies of. The well-groomed and presentable are put in power, and the same opium trade that formed the fda, controls the populace for an example. For another, the "Company of the Year" Monsanto - who is the worlds largest Ag producer, yet represents a cut-throat ideology, created agent oragnge, and modifies dna through gmo crops. Something like 65% of US presidents and Vice-presidents were or are of the Freemasonic Elite, including George Washington who wore masonic aprons during the founding moments of America. Your secret purpose, founded by masons in a blueprint which is nearing completion - and good builders they are in a physical sense.

6. It's the soft-slap/hard-slap that we face in society - mock society all you want (it is a circus culture after all), but not too much, because this delusion we live in does rule over the emotions and passions of the majourity after all. We are in a capitolist circus, ruled by a corrupt democracy that was designed for exploitation, slander, and the birthing of new warfare and its ideals. The hard-slap is the doom that awaits from TPTB behind the scences. Don't you dare touch it or know more! Rule by fear is control, and is satanic. As we learned recently here, war is also acceptable blood-sacrifice for the idiots in charge. This isn't the control a good parent will exercise over their children, to discipline, but it does creep in such a role as overburdening or draconian rules among us. They may sound impressive and are backed by fearful punishments, but are nothing more than private interests and can be contained to the "ideologies and traditions celebrated by man". They can result in financial devestation, false guilt, and the shunning of society for small indiscretions which keep otherwise honorable people under check. Examples? No, I'd rather you acknowledge the poor application of power, not a minor, partisan example which divides people by their conditionings and creates violence and division. They let us do their dirty work for them. This is why society is known as the "vulger" and the "unwashed" among elite circles. Rich and poor are not partisan politics. That is a defining boundary, as ever.

7. I seem to have valid studies which outline the Rosicrucians from Venice as spreading and heading the heresies that led to the majourity of the divisions in the Christian churches, drew people into unmatching beliefs, and planted agents of discord in the church establishments. OOOOOO BIG CONSPIRACY!!!! No, it's proved, many times over. The undermining of the church was also an agenda, but not Gods agenda.

8. The formations of universities was also a masnic plot to control all "higher" order of society, and so separate ethics into its own prisons, while allowing science to continue unbridled by real guilt and law. Research who founded universities if you don't believe me. Take away the rules against mad scientists, and mad scientists will rule the world. University is also largely an indocrination into elite society, and as one of its many critiques, the history books of the future will see it as our gaping gate to master control. Every tree measured by a yardstick of science tends to have its branches and crown shorn off.

9. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Man will become God according to occultic religion, the same religion that Bailey, Blavatsky, Lucis Trust, SHARE International and others expound, ideologies which form the circus of western society, ideals which destroy our moral boundaries and leave room for worship of demons. Try being righteous for a day, and you know instantly that it's a lot harder to be moral than depraved. These are in Geneva, these form UN doctrine, these will form the NWO religion that TPTB want to take over the world with.

10. Christianity has been so well documented, explained, and understood, that you do not have to come to a board and ask questions about it. Your answers already exist from millions of sources. You only quiz peoples knowledge of it here, which is fair in certain circumstances, but doesn't prove much more than whether a persons knows or doesn't know their stuff. If they know it, you can use the time honoured shun technique to humiliate and belittle them, or if they do you can make them reiterate it ad nauseum until they mix something up, after which you can jump in like a wolf. Either way, what I read in the OP sounded like nothing more than a layering of insults in a pseudo-intellectual form. But why war with you over it? War is bad, and our revolution is from within.

While I understand the intent of the post; the deliberate baiting and attacking of other people s religion sounds disturbingly like bigotry - doesn t it? As I understand it Christians are by definition followers of Christ. This is a broad category. The "10 signs" seem to combine several different religions and lump them all together as one. This doesn t strike me as particularily productive.

Exactly right. I mean who came with these idiotic ten so called points? Looks to me like they were thought up by the Devil himself or maybe a juvenile delenquent. There is absolutely no truth to any of it. You can bring up bs like this all you want to. It's not going to change the outcome of things.

What was your intentions here Op? Was this a desperate attempt to convert Christians to Athiests? Are you trying to make us Christians feel bad? This thread is completely pointless. You might think you are making all kinds of sense with this. But, I'm here to tell you, you make zero sense. Nadda............zip. See, you are always the ones trying to pick a fight. You chose for things to be the way they are, so quit whining about it and except your fate.(whatever that may be)

This thread is a joke. I honestly don't know why I'm even on this "trashy" thread. I'm not surprised to see "Christian bashing" crap like this on the front page. Kind of reminds me of what kind of world this has become. Your crossing the line with this one. You have your priorities all screwed up. It seems you need to realize this the hard way. There will come a day (sooner than you think) in which you will say it seems I had it all wrong.

It will be a hard lesson learned. But, you will learn it.

star and flag for excellent find and also for this statement

"And also for the record - I am against ALL organized religion "

...that is the crux of the matter right there.
What a different world we would live in if there were no religion.
And how spiritually evolved we would be by now if all the hours humans over time have spent listening to,absorbing, and perpetuating dogma had been spent instead seeking their own spiritual truth through inner contemplation and personal insight and intuition, and felt fellowship with all of mankind.
