Costs, new risk profiles test big city security

"It's really a dilemma. You cannot apply airport measures because the delays it would create would be impossible. And we do not have a technological 'wonder system' that can easily detect illegal materials in mass transit."

"What we can do, as they do in Israel, is to have citizens who are aware and vigilant and willing to report information. They are the eyes and ears of security."

So it appears they want a global sytem in place for public transport similar to that of Israel? Relying on citizens to report other citizens suspicious behavior? Remind you of this thread? Neighbour Shy? Uses Cash not Cards? - Government Advert Contact Anti Terrorist Hotline!

I don't know this doesn't seem good.

"Existing CCTV surveillance technology is far more useful in investigations after the fact than it is in preventing attacks. It can be a deterrent for ordinary criminals or amateurish militant groups, but is not for committed suicide attackers.

Feakin said security companies were researching ways to link CCTV surveillance to facial recognition programs to enable the police to spot a wanted person in real time, or to check for expressions or body language indicating stress.

"If you end up getting 'false positive' detections on stress, that may be the price we have to pay," he said."

So looks like they are using the militia raids, and supposed danger, as another reason why they need to remove rights. The price they have to pay is getting "false" positives from the use of this intrusive technology? I don't know, I like feeling safe especially with all the problems in the world right now, but it feels like they are itching to create a completely monitored and controlled society one piece at a time. Now we will have world wide transport systems under heightened security because of the Moscow incident and the recent militias speaking up.

Here is some news on this topic from another source here in the U.S...This is not a good sign, especially with things in Russia escalating daily now. Our government here is using the Russian attacks as the reason for implementing new systems for public transit.

Five Ways To Make U.S. Mass Transit Safer:

"Security on mass-transit systems should be a daily priority, like in airports, they add, suggesting that subway stations do not have to be soft terrorist targets.

Of course, commuters expectations that public transit take them a few miles with minimal inconvenience makes it impossible to implement in subways the strict screening that exists in airports.

But the need is great. More than 10.2 billion trips were taken on public transit in 2009. Yet in the first-ever quadrennial security review released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last month, subways are mentioned only once in the 108-page report. As outlined in that report, the most severe threat facing any transportation system is a weapon of mass destruction such as a nuclear device or a biological weapon."
