I thought this bill was Insurance Reform?

I have searched for comments on death panels, should I post them here now?

P.S. I thought conservatives were all for rationality and common-sense. Why would a conservative want the government to pay for expensive treatments that don't work? Stop spreading lies, paranoia, and disinformation.

Wow skunk, you're the one that is nuts. It sure is right in front of us. The cat was let out of the bag. To me I look at it this way.

You think that it is a money saving opportunity and that the government isn't about profit. ROFLMAO!

That there will be NO biased decisions being made on expensive treatments. You see, if I were a 'specialist' hired by the government to review a patients records for a much needed but very expensive operation and that patient is say 60 or older, I would probably lean a bit more in favor of that government. My decision may be swayed just a bit to say "well, I don't think it will do any good." Yet a private doctor would then come in and say that the operation would add 10 or more years to the person's life.

You see the dilemma? You seem to be thinking that the government will make decisions based on the people. It will not. It will make them based on money. Period. If it costs too much then all of a sudden there is just no hope for you.

I say this from experience. My mother was on a government program. She got seriously ill. Once her expenses topped the $750k mark (and not a penny above) we got a call from the doctor saying that he felt there was nothing they could do to save her. This after all of the while telling us that she is getting better and doing well and will be brought back to consciousness soon.

Well, something came up and another operation would be needed. Of course I am speculating here because I'm NOT a doctor. But I have researched my mothers condition and it is usually not fatal for people in their 60's. It's brutal but they can usually recover fully. Well, she was 47.

I was surrounded by these doctors and they all just hounded me into giving in and having her removed from life support. They insisted that there was nothing they could do. The problem is that she was doing so well until that critical money amount came in.

I was told absolutely that once they removed her from the system that it would be quick. Within two or three minutes. 8+ hours later I finally said goodbye to the woman that brought me into this world holding her hand the entire time.

I just wish I would have done the research BEFORE that meeting while she was in the hospital. I would have been better armed to refuse them and force them to help her. You see, she was on disability thus all health costs were covered by the government.

Now these very same people will control who gets the treatment and who doesn't.

I hope you don't get sick to the point that you end up being weighed against the cost.

First let me say that I am sorry for your loss. However I am moved to respectfully share my personal story which is 180 degrees the opposite.

My late elderly father was in final stages of succumbing to congestive heart failure. He was both a retired Naval officer and FAA Government employee and received Tri-care for life government healthcare insurance. I was his appointed legal healthcare surrogate and held Medical and Legal Power of Attorney. His Living Will CLEARLY indicated he did not want artificial life support or resuscitation of any kind.

Despite his advanced age (92) and the unliklihood of his recovery the Doctors and Medical staff made several overtures towards me to continue their efforts to sustain his life. I refused to acquiesce and he passed peacefully. Those were his wishes.

So you see this is contrary to your own story but painful nonetheless. Regardless, it is heartbreaking to witness a parent die. I thank you for sharing.

Doctors are sworn to the Hippocratic Oath. Their goal is to sustain life, no matter the cost.
