Iran Nuclear Scientist Defects to U.S. In CIA 'Intelligence Coup'

abcnews.go.com

An award-winning Iranian nuclear scientist, who disappeared last year under mysterious circumstances, has defected to the CIA and been resettled in the United States, according to people briefed on the operation by intelligence officials.

"The significance of the coup will depend on how much the scientist knew in the compartmentalized Iranian nuclear program," said former White House counter-terrorism official Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant.

Yep, uh huh. Like this is the missing link you needed, right CIA?

Since you failed to convince the public and our military that strikes on Iran are needed, you now resort to kidnapping an Iranian nuclear scientist?

Oh great. So next we get to hear the whole diatribe "confession" from this scientist who will give you all the supposed targets, complete with coordinates for those bunker busters you have over at Diego Garcia, right?

Hey if you can't sell us another war, grab a nuke scientist. Ok CIA we get it.

But wait, why bother? You control everything else, and you all have been promoted since the last atrocities you committed to get us into Iraq and Afghanistan. So why even go there? Yeah the heat got a little warm from the public, but nothing you great American Hatriots couldn't stand. So what's a little more heat?

Go ahead, you can take it. Why lie to us again with some stupid confession from this guy? Just go bomb Iran already and start WW3. Who gives a crap anymore? Certainly not you.

Nice new home,cushy job.

He knows the song they want to hear and he'll sing it for them.
And the gullible masses will go with what is then told to them.

Does this guy get a billet in the Denver New World Airport when TSHTF? Helping start WWIII should be worth at least that much, even if he's nothing more than a stalking horse.

any chance we will see the same BS like we did with saddams
sisters husband and so on, defecting and then briefing the US and UK

which then led to some wild claims and a country being attacked faulsly?

Ha ha, I bet Mr Pyjamas is loosing that sickly smile now the cat is out of the bag!

One way or another, Iran is toast and it seems the powers will do anything to make that happen.

Sad really!

I remember when that nuclear scientists/general dissappeared during the pilgramage to Mecca over a year ago. The Iranians said from the bat that he was taken or kidnapped, and it looks like he may have been. You are correct, this is exactly being timed for the attack on Iran, especially after those specialized bunker busters being housed in Diego Garcia (when you house that type of weapon close from your main armories on a staging ground, your setting up for war. Usually weapons like that are used during the first stages of an attack when their are still infrastucture and readied defenses and bunkers still viable. There is no reason to use those things now in Iraq or Afghanistan against an insurgency, but it is good to be used against a country that is intact). They are going to trot this guy out and have him say what has to be said and then they will have no choice because this scientist from Iran said so.

Spot on Gallifreyan medic, he is going to say what they want to say. Here's a scenario that possibly happened, he truly went to Mecca but when he got their he was snatched by intelligence services (with Saudi Arabia helping of course). He was held and even told that he could be charged with terrorism and/or helping in the production of nuclear systems for your govt. in Iran. But they gave him another option and said, unless you cooperate and tell us everything you know (the year and change long debrief) we will all say you defected and we will set you up in a nice home and a cushy job, sign these papers. Also if you say anything about what we just said we will deny it and bring you up on charges of breaking the National Secrecy Act or something and the crimes we where going to charge you for in the beginning.

And thats how you get a person to defect. You think a person who is that high up and/or is in a critical (maybe) part of the action that may be going on will be allowed to walk right out of whatever building they had him in if he didn't like what was being offered, it wasn't going to happen. One way or the other he was going to play ball, either as a defendant doing life for crimes that are done in secret court or by giving us what we want and letting him live a nice dream of having a house and cushy job as you have said.

We are going after Iran boys and girls, and it's going to be a nasty little war. Don't be surprised if they do have a draft. One thing about Iran that many people don't know is that it's more of a homogenous state and its mostly moutainous except for certain areas of the country (which means not alot of tanks). Also they have a population of 75 million I believe and their infrastucture and military infrastucture hasn't been degraded like Iraq was before the second Iraqi war. Well it will keep the peoples mind off of the economic problems and it will make it easier under patriotism to pass laws and controls on the economy (higher taxes, cuts in this or that etc. etc.) if theres a war on, remember WWII thats what helped to get us out of the depressionl.

Just so I have this straight...This Iranian scientist "disappeared" last year under mysterious circumstances. Same said Iranian scientist resurfaces now with the CIA. Hmm...sounds like it took him awhile to turn up, ahem find his way around town, ahem be thoroughly briefed before being led out for the big show.

Let's all dust off our lie detectors because the cow patties are going to splatter again. Just like the incubators and the wmd's, etc, etc. etc.

There is some concern that this individual was, according to the news, set up with plans to leave prior to the actual Hajj, with the CIA orchestrating the entire plan. Unsure if this is true, but, if so, I'm sure there are a lot of scientist's in Iran tonight, answering quite a few questions, or perhaps they have been since June, when this person disappeared, either way this is a huge blow to Iran's program.

One wonder's how much access this invidual will be given now that he is in our hands, and how easy it would be for another double agent situation, as we had in Afghanistan not too long ago with the CIA officer's who were killed. This I believe has been looked into, by them, as they would not want another tragedy like that one, I am sure.

To most of us here on ATS, it is quite obvious what is going on here!

False Flags, excuses and things being put in place for bombing Iran.

Easy to spot a mile away, I would like to know when though?

But for 99% of the rest of the World / non ATS'ers, they won't know what is happening and are being brainwashed by the media.

How do we let them know, can we start some groups on Facebook etc to spread the word so to speak?

It would be a shame for us intelligent one's / the people in the know to sit back and watch the show without doing anything about it, don't you think?

And here is how the story is already being woven into diplomacy by your friendly MSM:

Improved U.S. insight into Iran's nuclear intentions is partly the result of high-level defections of Iranian scientists and military officers. On Tuesday, ABC News reported that U.S. officials had confirmed the defection of Iranian scientist Shahram Amiri, who vanished last summer during a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The report said Amiri had defected to the CIA in an "intelligence coup" and had been resettled in the United States.

Amiri was a researcher at Iran's Malek Ashtar University, which is connected to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and was linked in a recent European Union report to Iran's nuclear program. Iran had accused the United States last fall of being involved in Amiri's disappearance. The CIA has repeatedly declined to comment on Amiri's fate.

Richard A. Clarke, a former national security adviser to the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, said that Amiri was part of a network of scientists with security clearances, and that he would have had general awareness of the research of others in his group. "He could know more than the Iranians thought he knew," Clarke said.

Now seriously, go read the rest of this article. They tuck it in as an afterthought almost, but never fail to capitalize. See my emphasis on last line above. Setting the stage for the huge Breaking Story to come that "Iranian Scientist Divulges Iranian Intentions to Build a Nuclear Bomb."

I swear. CIA, you are getting really lame. We are starting to read you like a book. And if us lowly citizenry are, the Russians and Chinese have got your crap DOWN by now.

Or maybe it took a year after the kidnapping to get this guy thoroughly brainwashed to the point of allowable public display.

A year missing? that in itself just raises flags. If he were to defect, why take a year? And if it has been a year then whatever he says is suspect to being old news anyway and not applicable to being used as a fulcrum for any type of military action.

You have this guy pop up on the same day as IRAN IS ABLE TO MAKE NUKES headline.

it's getting a tad bit unsettling around here.

Riiiight....and that's the excuse every person like yourself make to not listen to people who have defected to the west.....

I mean, c'mon who in their right mind would defect from a dictatorship right?....

But don' sweat it, soon enough the U.S., and most of the west will also become Socialist dictatorships....

No offense, but the only people who make this sort of claim fall on the left of politics, and such people apparently believe only they know what is happening in the rest of the world, and more so places where they have never set foot in their entire lives.....

The people in charge don't care if Iran can make nukes or not.

They are just after more Power, Money, and Control both over there in the Middle East and in America by taking peoples' rights away.

George Orwell had it perfectly correct in his book 1984 with an Orwellian Society where everything is controlled.

The only things that's worse than being part of the unthinking majority is being aware but inactive. You can either frequent ATS and talk things to death and feel like you're achieving something with waffle or you can sit down for quiet twenty minutes and put pen to paper and define a process between point a) where your society is at and point b) where you want it to be. Thereafter begin listing potential strategies to bridge the two points.

I use sites like ATS as a information resource and not as a social environment. Stop looking to other members to show you how to lead. We are all innate leaders as are you.

If you really don't know where to start then I suggest the following:

1) Begin researching and analyzing a specific area.
2) Compile and document your findings.
3) Verify and corroborate your findings.
4) Verify and corroborate your findings again.
5) Present your findings online (get a free Wordpress blog or website) or in print (flyers, posters) or by way of direct presentation (organize a meeting).
6) Begin networking with those receptive to your message.

After step six your campaign will be pretty much autonomous and will steer itself.

DO NOT present your findings to your family or friends at first. Besides the fact that you might alienate some of your peers there's also a strong chance that critical aspects of your information isn't sound.

DO NOT follow doomsday prediction dates.

Hey, what do you want. Call a cow a cow, call a dog a dog.
Iran has kept it no secret that it wants Nuclear power, an area that can lead to weaponized Nuclear capabilities.

Iran has also stated that it dispises Israel and that Israel should not exist.
Iran also actively resorts to under the radar instigation and medling in all sorts of Foreign affairs, some of which include sending troops into nearby countries against Israel and backing Hezbollah, as well as assisting monetarily towards indirect attacks against targets the United States is engaged in, as well as assisting the Taliban in Afganistan, so basically any problem the U.S. is dealing with Iran is adding fuel to the fire when and where it can.

The United States knows this, but short of going directly to war, there is not much that can be done, other than to keep talking and hoping Iran will see the light... Heh, which isn't likely to happen in this century...

Sometimes a cigar is a cigar. It's entirely possible that this Iranian Nuclear scientist really did defect. It's entirely possible that he has insider secrets that would internationally incriminate Iran. I don't see why so many people are so eager to defend the Iranian regime, when Iran would just as soon destroy the United States if it did in fact have the means to do so. Why defend an aggressive beast that would rather eat you than return the favor??

who knows what this guy told the cia...we will never know...but it is very strange that a year goes by and all of a sudden this story pops up...sounds like he was held captive until he decided to co-operate...never know though things like this have happened in the past and we as americans have aquired some great benefits from it...for example the stealth bomber...atom bombs...and so on...

Hear, hear, excellent analogy... Sometime's I have this funny picture in my mind of an Iranian diplomatic aircraft landing in the USA for the first time, with all kind's of promise's of warmth and understanding, and all the fool's showing up at the airport to say welcome, and they come in peace, and then the whole, "Mars Attack's" scenario breaks out, and everyone's running around going what went wrong, what did we do wrong?

Anyway, I think this scientist did defect, and spent the whole year chatting, with the CIA. Just as advertised.
