That seems to be a common problem among tyrant-politicians...Intellectuals scare the bejeebus out of them because of what knowledge & common sense
they possess...It goes against their "intentional dumbing down" programs...
I agree... they like to keep tabs on the universities for the smart young people they generate that can be used for thier purposes... but its a double
edged sword (no pun to you MidnightDStroyer ) as when you teach young people to use thier minds, they sometimes actually do.... and what they come
up with may not be what you wanted them to.
