Gallup Poll 49% to 40% Favorable

Americans by 9 percentage points have a favorable view of the health care overhaul that President Obama signed into law Tuesday, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, a notable turnaround from surveys before the vote that showed a plurality against it.

By 49%-40% those surveyed say it was "a good thing" rather than a bad one that Congress passed the bill. Half describe their reaction in positive terms, as "enthusiastic" or "pleased," while about four in 10 describe it in negative ways, as "disappointed" or "angry."

I expected this to happen but not quite so quickly.

Since no one still has an idea of what is in the bill, and few have still read it, I have to assume the only reason anyone has turned a favorable eye to this:
the drama of the fight is over
the uncertainty has been removed.

Wait until taxpayers find out how much more they will be paying in taxes and premiums.

With so little new information available, I see no reason for the upturn.

I agree. There's as much reason for a positive feeling about this bill as there is a negative feeling about it. Seeing as how so few know what's even in it!

I even thought people might be feeling more positive about it because of the negative reaction from the Republicans. A lot of time, the public will "root for the underdogs".

Aren't most " Polls " Biased in the Fact that they always seem to pose vague and loaded questions to a certain demographic of people that usually don't really represent the main steam public in any way ? Or am I just mistaken about that ?

Will people be so "positive" during the next four years of waiting for their handout? Right now Obama is enjoying the adrenaline rush from actually fulfilling one of his campaign promises. Sadly, this euphoria will be short lived for him and his loyal supporters.

President Obama is about as Socialist as they come.

How does his agenda differ from any Socialist agenda?

The whole friken world is Socialist except maybe the Muslim nations.

Mexico maybe...maybe not?

hell...the US used to deport socialists back to Canada.

lol

I believe this poll to be untrue propaganda. Not the member just the USA poll.
Nobody I know favors this. Everyone I know is quite concerned.

And everyone I know are quite happy to see it pass. It's the company you keep. While I'm a bit surprised to see such a quick turnaround, it's only a matter of time before people realize the good things about this bill (and of course there are bad things as well).

That is a great question!!

(1) Don't take internet polls seriously.
(2) Always look who sponsored the poll....who paid for it.
The polling company wants repeat business and can skew numbers.
(3) Who was sampled? Was it random? Did they call at night or during the day? During the day you get the unemployed folks who have a different view than those you might reach in the evening.
(4) Did they poll cell-phones...Folks that just use cell pohones and don't have land lines skew more liberal. They are younger.
(5) What part of the country was polled?
(6) How were the questions asked?

Try to click through the spin piece to the actual poll and examine who paid for it ...and look at the actual questions, sample size etc.

Up to this point in the debate I would say 90% of the headline polls I examined were paid for by big pharma or similiar sponsors.

Gallup, who did this poll...they know how to run a poll without bias and they aren't sponsored by industry.

Now that the lobbyist money has mostly dried up on the issue we will start seeing more accurate (not perfect) poll numbers.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, I must disagree. A brief visit from the Stroke Fairy two years ago left me with, among other things, a "pre-existing condition." I can finally shop my insurance to get a better rate. For the first time in awhile, I've jumped for joy.

I believe he will ALSO maintain his pledge regarding ending a a senseless, baseless "war."

Obama came with a completely different doctrine that thankfully makes prolonging the occupation harder than just making up a new lame excuse. He has promised on the campaign trail to withdraw all combat troops by August 31st of this year bringing the total number of US troops down to less than 50,000. Obama has also announced repeatedly that he will abide by the binding bi-lateral agreement between the two governments that requires all the US troops and contractors to leave Iraq by the end of 2011 without leaving any military bases behind. Both these promises are time-based, and not linked to the conditions on the ground. In addition, President Obama announced last week his intention to call an end to Operation Iraqi Freedom by August 31st, and to start the new non-combat mission as of September 1st this. The new mission, renamed "Operation New Dawn", should end by December 31st 2011 with the last US soldier and contractor out of Iraq.

Thus far President Obama appears to be delivering on yet another promise much to the chagrins of his detracters.

Now THAT is some CHANGE I can believe in.

I hope that's sarcasm, as America has it's fill of socialism even disregarding the health care bill...which isn't socialist.

Interesting that no one mentioned that the link was messed up.

The question and answers are at the link.

Yes, polls are pretty much worthless. I'm not making the claim that Americans have suddenly changed their minds. My point here is that these polls, as well as the ones that had Americans up in arms about the health care plan yesterday, cannot be trusted.

The real results will happen when the people start seeing results of the new law. Whether positive or negative.

Where are all the people that were putting so much stock in the polls that showed more opposed than favored???

And what a swing...wow...just proves my point that we shouldn't be looking at individual national polls for this issue.

Averaged polls are a little, very little, better...looking at trends are a little better too.

I'm just shocked at the lack of people that have been touting other polls that showed opposition...even internet polls.

No...not sarcasm! Sarcasm is a rhetorical device of something or someone upon which one wishes to express contempt.

I hold no contempt toward President Obama.

Just a observation as socialism can be defined as ...

Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization which advocate either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.

Al Sharpton Admits Obama Is a Socialist!*

lol

I live in a socialist society at the moment.

Anyhow it seems that socialism is gaining ground.

Conservatives love to demonize their opponents by name calling; socialist, communists and tulipwalkers come to mind.

Old #5....they should review this www.abovetopsecret.com...

Now let's all get ready for the "the libs do it too" responses.

topic...it's much to early to tell if the Health Care plan will do much of anything except give rush, sean, and savage something to whine about.

It doesn't really matter whether opinion shifts...It is the expense, the debt, the devaluation of the currency, which we will find a little harder to shift than the opinions of the American-news-consumer...happy-happy-joy-joy...

My opinion on this hasn't changed but my attitude has.

I was somewhat upset to see this pass. Then I read a thread on ATS, I'm sure everyone here knows the one, where the poster called detractors of the bill "stupid". It has been changed since, I believe, but it did get me to thinking. I realized the poster was right.

It was like we were a murder of crows, sitting on a fence, trying to warn sheep that a new wolf was coming. "No," the sheep would say, "it's a new sheepdog sent here to protect us. That's what we were promised." Even now, with the wolf inside the fence, they don't see the danger. From this day forward, from the time you are 6 months old till the time you die, the insurance companies get money for you. Whether you pay it, or someone else does, the insurance companies collect.

I could see this coming. I could see that there was no stopping it. By hook or crook, no matter who had to be paid off, no matter what legislative trickery was needed, this would become law. Once it was law, it would never be repealled. I'd bet good money that the Supreme Court won't even allow a case against the legislation to be presented, just like the income tax law.

It was stupid to be the crow, trying to warn the sheep of the inevitable. I can't be the wolf, I won't be the sheep, but I can be the vulture that picks at the carcass of the dead sheep. Rather than be angry, I can be smart. This legislation is bound to have loopholes that you can drive a truck through. I've already found one that exempts me from paying the fine for not having the insurance, and no, I'm not sharing the info. Find your own loopholes. Being self-employed, I should be able to file in such a way that it looks like I have no personal income. If I'm smart about this, some sucker with a wife and 4 kids making minimum wage that supports this legislation will be paying for my hair restoration treatment and my girlfriend's breast enhancement while I'm cruising the Chesapeake Bay in my boat.

If you were smart enough to see this coming, you should be smart enough to "game" the system. Don't get mad, get smart.

I have said it before....show me a poll that shows a 10% margin of dissaproval and I will click through and introduce you to the right wing PAC or Pharma Lobbyist group that paid for it.

Kaiser did a good poll...two of them actually and they both showed support for what was in the bill. The media didn't cover them much because they didn't pull in viewers.

Now that the lobbyists have moved on to "Finance Regulations" literally the morning after this bill passed, we will see different, less skewed and spun numbers.

I dont know about this poll but, I feel that more people here on ats are actually partaking in threads talking about the support of the bill. I just felt a while back that not many other members were voicing their approval or support of it, or maybe we didn't have them as members yet. Going back a few weeks I never saw support threads in these numbers that we do now, I think its a good thing. Just wait till things actually kick in, hopefully the help people get will soften them up and let them see its the start of something good.
