I'm just a guy. Work in the psychology field. Believe in ghosts. Pretty sure aliens are out there. Don't believe the government blew up the
twins. Don't believe Nibiru, 2012 End of the world, Physical Pole shift yada yada yada... Die hard patriot. Served our country. Live in New
Orleans. Voted for Ron Paul, George Bush, Ross Perot, Bill Clinton... Reasonably conservative and very logical. Agnostic recovering Catholic. Wife
3 kids 1 had canser, 3 dogs. 200k+ per year income. Not anything abnormal right?
OK I support health care reform, not the nonsense they passed, but reforming healthcare. We can't get private insurance because my son had cancer 5
years ago and I've had multiple kneww surgeries. Our provider dropped us mid chemo and we weren't eligible for govt assistance. I made too much
money. Spent 180k outta pocket in 1 year. Took 6 months off of work while my boy was in chemo. Does the healthcare system need reform? Yes. Does
it need socialism? No.
Look I'd be a prime beneficiary of the healthcare act that just passed. They gotta cover us now. But here's the thing that bothers me, I'm
intelligent and responsible. If I made the educated decision that my family doesn't need insurance and will just pay cash thenin America I should be
allowed to do that. Should I be penalized or forced into something because the majority aren't tha bright or responsible? 1st I said no. I thought
about it. Drivers liscense. For the stupid. Vehicle inspections. For the stupid. Huntinng and fishing permits are for the stupid and/or
irresponsible. Traffic light cameras. Ditto. he signs on gas pumps hat say don't consume he gasoline and don't smoke while pumping gas. For the
stupid. Speed limits, for the stupid and irresponsible. America has been scooin owards socialism for 200 years. Ever since we decided that as a
society we would protect the stupid and irresponsible. 3000 years ago stupid people educated us. Don't put your hand in the fire. Don't ride the
tiger. Don't jump off the cliff and flap your arms like a bird.
Most of our existing laws are built to protect the stupid and irresponsible which is he majority of the population. I dare say 95% of our laws have
this purpose. The patriot in me says this is wrong. The government doesn't need to control 20% of the economy nor should it have the ability to
jail and heavily fine free american citizens for making an educated choice on whether or not they need health insurance. But they do it with guns,
cars, taxes and everything else. But the patriot says no. As a healthcare provider I think it's going to cost me money. Forcing me to accept lower
rates than I want to for services. The government telling me what my time is worth. That's a load of crap. I'm free and I decide.
The analytical and unemotional me says hold up there Jay, lets hink about this. Star Trek was a socialist society and we've reaped so many
technological benefits from star trek, why should this one seem bad. This will take care of everyone, everyone here will have the ability to get
proper medical treatment. Insurance companies can't dick em over anymore. This is a good thing. It sure isn't freedom but it seems ethical. I'd
love for everyone in America to have proper healthcare. Hell I write off 7 figures worth of pro bono services per year. Shouldn't everyone?
Hell maybe the gubbment can nationalize and take over everything. All businesses. Eliminate currency and bam everyone gets whatever they need. No
keeping up with the Jones's. Everyone does ok. No poverty. No people homeless and dying in the streets. Wouldn't it be great!? Of course.
Everyone in the world would hopefully wish that there was no hunger, no poverty, etc....
But what about our freedom? That road would seem to eventually lead us to govt deciding what job your smart enough to perform. If your kids are
smart enough to go to college. If your house is too big. Should you be allowed to have firearms. If you deserve to get that expensive medical
treatment at age 70 or should we save he money for younger more productive members of society?
The problem is people as a whole aren't honest. They don't put others 1st. hey think of their own personal gain 1st. Socialism would seemingly
eliminate that. Except the people that have most of those faults are in charge. Always will be. And they think they are better than the common man.
You are beneath them. And you may think your smart but they think they are smarter and they know what's best for you. Corruption can't manage a
benevolent program without one day infecting it with the seeds of corruption. But it's the same thing we do o the rest of the world, we're better
than you, we're smarter and better human beings; Just do what we say because we know what's best. If you don't do i your wrong and we'll punish
you. The difference is now its ok to do that to americans.
This country isn't nor has it ever been a democracy. It's always been a representative republic.
A pure democracy the people would have a mass vote on everything. A republic eliminates dictatorship or mob rule. Every pure deomocracy has failed.
Our forefathers knew that. In a republic you elect statesmen to represent your interests. In reality name one person in congress who you think cares
more about his constituents than himself. Does he really do what you want? Represen your ideals and beliefs? No. I know several governors,
senators , representatives, mayors... They may start as idealists but they are in it for themselves. The entire Landrieu family, George Allen, Doug
Wilder, Tim Caine, Norman Sisisky, Bobby Jindal.... Those are a few.. But I know most of them well enough to know they give 2 #s abou you. Because
they believe you are beneath them and neef them to manage your life as much as possible. The biggest exception I've ever met was when Ollie North
ran for senate. He honestly cares about his country and the American people more than himself. While in he military he knew his place, he followed
orders and respected he chain of command and defended his superiors and took all the heat on himself. How many politicians do that? None.
Healthcare reform good. socialism good. Our crooked politicians in charge of it? Bad.. And it's unamerican, right or wrong it isn't the american
way. And that's my problem. Rather than destroy the constitution, leave.
