OK I'm from the UK and havn't had chance to look at the Healthcare bill that has just been passed.I keep hearing how bad it's going to be, so I'm interested to know how is this going to effect ATS members in America. Will it be good for anyone?

And, can anyone explain, why you have to pay for insurance?, rather than just paying for universal healthcare through a tax system that all citizens pay like we do here in the UK?

It will benefit border jumpers from Mexico, it's free for them. Congress will have much to gloat and grave-dance about - members of the house and senate, their families and staffs are exempt from the new socialized medicine law.

Yes, it's called income redistribution. In addition to tax dollars, middle class and above citizens (with income over a certain amount) will have to pay a premium of approximately 200% of what they pay now for private health insurance. Illegal aliens and lower income people will be exempt from the premium requirement.

Middle class Americans who disobey the obamacare law will face heavy fines followed by imprisonment up to 5 years - ie. failure to enroll, failure to accept the veri-chip chip implant, failure to pay the premiums.

The congress has been conducting war against the middle class for years, this becomes a major victory - expect much gloating and grave-dancing as they, and the mainstream press, celebrate.

Next up is Sen. John Cornyn's amnesty bill for 39 million illegals.

One small point, if I may, the obamacare law is illegal and unconstitutional.

Thats sums up how it will affect me.

Not being an American and living in a country that already has a proper public healthcare system I'd just like to say that although it will have no direct effect on me personally, this American healthcare saga has made me hate the word and subject "Healthcare" with a passion.

If I never hear about it again it will be too soon.

This is in no way an attack on the OP or the posters here ITT or ATS in general. It's just been a year now and the subject has worn a bit thin for those of us outside the US.

It's true, it just seems like it's finally over now, so i wanted to see if there were any members who are going to benefit from the system, I wonder if the same oposition existed when the NHS was created in Britain?

The doom and gloom you hear are fear and exaggeration.

I have worked all my life, usually two and sometimes three jobs, to support my family. Two years ago I lost my full time job, I am only working part time and have no health care. I have diabetes, controlled by oral meds, exercise, and diet. Preexisting condition, so not able to get insurance. Without proper health care I am likely to develop complications that would further drain the system.

Now there is at least some hope that I can avoid that. This bill is by no means perfect and will likely be a work in progress for years to come. But, it is a step in the right direction.

Have you read any of the bill or have you just been watching FOXNEWS all night for your provably wrong information?

Doesn't pay for immigrants. That's just a simple fact.. What happens to immigrants now, do you think? Hospitals HAVE to treat them anyway. Who pays their bills now? WE DO. Its already social buddy! And a horrible way to direct our dollars.

Your information on premiums you must have just made up, honestly, because that's absurd beyond words.

Bill says nothing about Veri-chips... At all. So you made that up again.

And you should be fined for not paying a little out of pocket for your health insurance! Know why? Because its stupid and irresponsible to allow taxpayers to pay for your dumb uninsured self when you can't afford a 200,000 dollar hospital bill.

These fear threads are pathetic to a point it makes me fume.

I tried to once - got maybe 100 pages in and a friend told me they'd already changed it. Then there were 2 out there -and they were both just a tad different. SO I can't say.

I do know that my current insurance (Coventry) will not approve Ciclsporin for me. Everyone with my condition on my email support group has tried it, or couldn't, but their insurance approved it - it cures 80% of people with this sort of autoimmune disease (I'm allergic to my own blood serum).

They said there was no documentation of it's use in this case. My doctor and I got like 100 pages many from major medical journals and sent them in, and they just ignored it.

The med is expensive, paying out of pocket was an option, but then I was warned not to - that if I had complications, which sometimes happen - I wouldn't be covered at all. So for 10 months now I've been on steroids & now I'm starting to have high blood sugars.

So...that's my sob story. We have what is supposedly good insurance, but I've got a weird condition, that is horrid to live with, and I'm just stuck getting substandard care b/c of my insurance company. I think they want me dead, probably mad I got to ER in time...guess they are hoping it will happen again.

But if anyone knows of a definitive link to the bill, I'd love to read it. I just don't want to waste my time reading 1000 pages and then finding out it wasn't the 'right' one.

Apparently it is going to imprison me for 5 years.

Senate measure would allow the government to collect the tax by deducting it from any IRS tax-refund checks or other government payments. Should the full Senate approve that language, a House-Senate conference committee would have to wrestle with the question of whether or not a person who refuses to obtain coverage and refuses to pay the penalty can be charged with criminal tax evasion.

I stand corrected maybe?

I was refused coverage by blue cross because I took prilosec for 2 months during my senior year in college. I run 3 miles a day and eat an almost vegetarian diet.

Let me say that again.... I WAS REFUSED COVERAGE FOR TAKING AN ANTI-ACID OVER THE COUNTER PILL OVER 3 YEARS AGO....

@WWJFKD Yeah, if your taking the word of a person from an internet forum as gospel, then yes.. If you have your own mind and decide to use it, you might find out differently.

This forcing people under threat of fines and jail is the last straw for me. Now I won't even file a yearly income tax return anymore, don't care what they do. Ill have my attorney's Smith and Wesson LLC. waiting for anyone who shows up to prosecute me, and they will be filing a counter claim against them

I have absolutely no idea how the healthcare bill will affect me. That's because I don't know what's in it. And neither do 99% of the politicians who voted for it.

That's probably the main reason why Americans are pissed off.
