Why doesn't the AHOLE scream about big pharma and the health insurance industries that have LOBBIED for this bill!?!?!
Because he was no doubt voted into office because of his stand on abortion, not because he was against corporate takeover of America.
Traditionally, the GOP had been the party associated with big business and the "have mores" The Democratic Party was the party of the working person. Old slogans I remember hearing as a kid: "Want to live like a Republican? Vote for a Democrat!", "With Republicans you get Depressions. With Democrats you get wars."
For 30 years now, the GOP has been voted into office on the wedge issues of abortion, guns, and gays. They co-opted religion, patriotism, "traditional" values", and family values to garner votes. But once in office, the party of big business, of corporations, opened the Washington halls for their traditional friends, the have mores who wanted even more, and their corporate cronies.
Lobbying became an industry, stuffing the campaign accounts and pocketbooks of more and more politicians.
After Reagan and the first Bush came a corporate Democrat, then another two terms of another Friend of Corporations, then the election of another corporate Democrat (although, the GOP politicians and party said the most absurd things about him (Socialist!, "death panels") in the hopes of such images helping to turn out voters who would once again put the Republicans in power.
Traditionally, corporations gave more to the GOP than the Dems, so little wonder the party now out of power hungrily wants back in. Corporate donors can get you elected and keep you in good money once you've left office and want to lobby for them.
K Street, C Street, Easy Street. Just make sure you vote the way your corporate donors want you to. So scream at pharma and health insurance industries? Bite the hand that feeds you?
