Congress clears historic health care bill

news.yahoo.com
WASHINGTON – Summoned to success by President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled Congress approved historic legislation Sunday night extending health care to tens of millions of uninsured Americans and cracking down on insurance company abuses, a climactic chapter in the century-long quest for near universal coverage.

Widely viewed as dead two months ago, the Senate-passed bill cleared the House on a 219-212 vote, with Republicans unanimous in opposition.

Congressional officials said they expected Obama to sign the bill as early as Tuesday.

Before you do all the above, remember that this bill is only a shell for the most part. Thousands of procedures still need to be written up.

Furthermore, I am willing to bet that there will be some tinkering with it before most of it goes into effect.

Jam321 for me there are no longer any ifs, ands, or buts.

IMO our government from the top-down, is corrupt to the core.

For me the passage of this bill is simply the "straw that broke the camel's back."

The list of lies and deceit (e.g. September 11, 2001) goes back a long way.

I will no longer follow the government's orders.

My feeling is that they are now guilty, until proven innocent (UCMJ).

I watched the pre-pre-debate earlier on C-SPAN LIVE.

I watched the pre-debate on the Rules of Debate, and started watching the actual debate, but regrettably, fell asleep. Not to imply that it wasn't historic or interesting, just a lot of hard labor yesterday for me.

It was interesting, the often juxtaposition between how some of the House members hinted at their vote, and how it actually went. It actually went pretty much as expected.

I think it's a huge mistake. Good luck and God Bless, America. I hope a year from now I'm grovelling back to this same thread to admit that I was more wrong than Bart Stupak in high heels.

This will only get humongously expensive for all of us. In the past, those without health insurance only went to seek medical treatment if they had an actual medical emergency or condition requiring immediate attention. Now that everyone will be insured, paying a fix cost, they won't blink an eye going to the doctor over every little aliment. You'll have hoards more neeeeeding anti-depressants. Hoards more wanting pills to control their cholesterol instead of having to change their diet and exercise. You'll have horny nasty old men making YOU pay for their viagra. You'll have a huge drain on all medical resources. There will be long lines now .. even at the emergency rooms. There will be waiting lists for surgery.

Everyone will be worse off because of this, whereas only a few were worse off before. This will also mean more money from ALL OF YOU (directly or through the cost of things you buy). Money is already pretty tight for many right now. I don't have health insurance right now myself, but if I must get some, I'm going to use and abuse the heck out of it, ha. I'll go in for a physical every year whether I feel like I need it or not. Gonna get me some of them happy pills too. Some of those horny pills also, ha. I'm going to start eating worse now and rely more on wonder pills and by-pass surgery. I'm going to smoke more now too. Heck, I'm going to get me one of those electric scooters too so I won't have to walk around so much, ha. Oh yeah, this is all great alright. And I'm going to make you all pay for it.

I guess the idea in theory is that the insurance companies get millions of new customers.

In the process they lower their premiums due to the influx of money from the new customers.

IRL, In real life, Insurance companies are not going to lower squat and hundreds of thousands or millions of people are fined or imprisoned.

Now part of the US penal system, the millions have access to government health care!

Yay for social democracy!
