From CNN:

House passes health care reform, the most sweeping social legislation in more than four decades.

The most significant change to the health care system since Medicare more than 40 years ago will transform the way millions of Americans get health care. The 219-212 House vote means 30 milllion uninsured will get coverage.

Health care latest: House passes legislation

More information coming.

The bill still has to go through the White House, and Obama is expected to sign on Tuesday.

The American system is far too privatized for this bill to have any real effect...

If they want to have everyone covered, they just need to increase taxes a few percent per state... take that money to pay the doctors, sorta like Canada does.

Give everyone a new healthcare card, if you do have one.. you dont get treatment, if you are an illegal and/or such. Even in the emergency rooms.

Good luck US!!

This is indeed the worst day in recent American history. I can honestly say I am ashamed to be an American, if I can even call myself that anymore. God help us in what is to come.

There are no words to describe my emotions at this moment. I fear the next phase of the destruction of the United States of America has begun.

Another reason for them to give us national ID cards. I'd rather become a thief and a drug dealer than get a national ID card.

I am so happy that were taking these steps forward. I've been watching all night and I am absolutely relieved it got passed. I can't wait till this helps each and every one of you and yours. It's about time we acted like the great nation we are. God Bless America, this will make us stronger.

The fat lady didn't sing yet.

Still has to go back to the Senate (suppose to) for reconcilliation.

Which I doubt will happen. 10 to 1 the Senate snookers the House-thus putting the screws to the American people.

Then the fat lady will have sung

The majority of this country is against the bill. OUR elected REPRESENTATIVES said "screw you" and passed it anyway. That is the way many people whether we like it or not, are going to look at it.

Trillions in debt,

entitlement programs in trouble,

spending out of control,

No end to war on terror or war on drugs,

millions unemployed, and now a healthcare bill that does little to address the high cost of healthcare.

Not true. They passed the Senate bill...it is passed...done.

They will now try to pass the reconciliation "fix" bill...even if that fails...the Senate bill without the fixes goes to the President's desk.

First, that is in the breaking news forum, this is in the US Political Madness forum, we are entitled to a thread in both. And second I posted this thread as the bill was passed (not a lead up to!)

They said "screw you" when it came to the civil rights legislation which the overwhelming majority opposed. Are you saying that was a mistake too?

This bill is definitly not perfect, but atleast it is a step in the right direction. Now it will go to the senate and they could add the public option into the bill because they have 51 votes for it.

I am glad it passed! Let them pass all the socialist draconian legislation they can maybe then the brain dead sheeple of this nation will wake up enough to fight for freedom!

Anyone have directions to Galts Gulch? I'll take an oath not to reveal its location!

No, if the senate adds anything then it has to go in to comittee to hammer out the differences. At lest that is how things are supposed to work.

That was just the test vote. The real vote did not happen for another 40 minutes. I watched it live.

Wrong every bill has to be approved by both houses. The senate bill cannot go unfixed unless approved by the house.

Im sorry if i sound dimwitted...but i stopped following the details of the Heath Bill awhile back... didnt wanna absorb my mind into something i didnt wanna hear. Call it naive but i'd rather spend my time in the positive side of the spectrum.

Anyhow...can anyone explain what this bill entails exactly?.. "to the common man"
