So I was walking through the cemetery with my friend, TheCoffinman. We had our cameras with us, because we like to take pictures of the grave stones at different times of day, seasons, etc, etc.

While we were walking, I decided to take a photo with him at the side, and down one of the walkways. The camera lens is perfectly clean, and there was no glare from the sun. Here's the picture:



When I got home and transferred all the photos to my computer, I noticed that blur/shade thing. What say ye all? Look like a ghosty?

Looks like mist to me.

Where exactly do you see a ghost?

The blur on the left side. It's right in front of the house, and little on the tree. It can't be mist, because it was a dry, 65F day. And there's no water source around there.

Judging by the way the ground looks somewhat muddy, and how you are a little lower to the ground where you are... I would probably say it's some fog leaving from earlier in the day, or fog starting up. It looks like the perfect day for fog.

I have seen this kind of thing before in the wood but also in a street in south London that had an underground river ( the Wandle). I wonder if there is any connection.

It couldn't be a fog or mist, because there was nothing there when I took the picture. Hence, my words before: "When I got home and transferred all the photos to my computer, I noticed that blur/shade thing." Didn't notice it until I saw the picture later.

And it couldn't be an underground river, because that's on the top of a hill. There is only 1 river in my town, and it was about 3/4 a mile away, or so.

I know this sounds mundane, but at the time you took the picture do you remember any old clunker cars going by? Maybe exhaust?? The sun though not shining directly in the camera may have highlighted the smoke/exhaust enough for the camera to record it as brighter than to the eye...

or maybe there´s some drilling going on in your area?

The OP said that the phenomena wasn't there at the moment when the photo was taken.

Then it must be a ghost, as we all trust everyone on the Internet claiming various things.

Well a car did go by, but it had gone by about 3 minutes before I took the pictures. It was an suv, though. Not a clunker. There was no drilling, either. It's a tiny town. Biggest part is that cemetery. Again, though, I saw nothing in the air.

Perhaps the dead barbeque and their phantom smoke drifts up from the grave. Or maybe you really did catch something there. That's almost one of those things that can never be known for sure.....

Couple of problems I can see with this image of what you believe to be a ghost.

1, it is massive.. it takes up almost half the picture as you can clearly see the mist in front of the tree trunk top the left

2, it appears to have some depth to it, it looks like it goes beyond the tree on the left and further down the pathway.

3, you can see shadows in it, cast by the branches of the trees to the right as the sun seems to be over to the far right of the shot.

I'm not shooting you down for what you are saying as i have no way of proving or disproving what you are saying, but the conditions do appear to be right for this kind of mist to form.

I'm also failing to see it in any other form to suggest sdomething spiritual. It just looks like a mist/fog cloud

I might not buy this 100% since it is outside and there could be environmental factors, but I'll rent it for a while and I'll tell you why:

This looks a lot like a photo I have that looks very similar. It's actually 2 pictures I took moments apart with no atmospheric or other changes that could have caused an anomaly.

The first picture shows my father with my parents' maltese on his lap, and the dog is licking my 2 year old nephew (brother's son). The dog was acting strangely as it normally didn't behave like this, so I took a picture, but I missed the 'kissing' that the dog was doing. I took another picture immediately after, and as I was taking it, I thought "I wonder if my grandma can see her great-grandkids". For reference, she died in the 1970s.

I got the photos back (this was pre-digital, in 2000), and there was this fog in the second picture, and I immediately understood it as the answer to my question. I examined the negs, and there was no light leak (the 'fog' did not reach the edge of the negative), there was no smudge on the lens. Remember, I took the photos moments apart, and did not even move the camera between shots. The frame after was clear also.

Since I have had communications from my grandmother on 2 other occasions, before and since that day, I did not really think this was too strange.

I don't have a scanner to scan the prints, but if anyone is really all that curious, perhaps I can lay them on my desk and take a digital picture of them side-by-side. I would have to blur the faces to maintain their privacy. I'm sure the naysayers will shoot down my assertions as they have the OP's, but I know what it is in the picture and I don't need anyone telling me otherwise.

Id say its moisture evaporating from the moist soil below, in the heat of the sun. Its appears to end right where the bank is shaded.

What time of day was it taken? It looks early judging from the fact that the sun appears to be low to one side. Perfect place for mist.

The picture was taken about 4PM-ish.

Perhaps it is mist, but it's still strange that I wasn't able to see it.

I have yet to take pictures at night, because the visiting hours are sunrise to sunset. One of my friend went up there at midnight, and the cops showed up less than 2 minutes later and knew right where he was. So the cemetery is bugged, or something.

I'm honestly more concerned as to why the cops showed up on your friend within 2 mins. of his arrival around midnight there than finding a ghost or even mist in a cemetery. Unless it was just really bad timing....
