Time/Day: 0100, Saturday
Weather: Calm, clear, and warm

The street is not a main roadway for "through traffic", and is more commonly frequented by locals. A string of small business exist in this more unkempt part of town. On the block you're walking at the time, you happen to be passing a liquor store (which is closed), an adult bookstore (which is closed), and an abandoned business storefront which is a local hotspot for squatters and gang activity.

Halfway through the block, you hear tires squealing up ahead and look up just in time to see a dark green 2001 Prius wheel around the corner with the back window rolled down. An MP5 sticks out the back as the Prius moves at approximately 30 miles an hour, and the bullets start flying. Either the shooter is a horrible aim, and/or you are not the target, but you didn't notice anyone around.

You are armed with a legal Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver. Your only cover to speak of is a coin-operated newspaper dispensary.

What do you do?

Hide behind the newspaper dispenser, and start shooting back?

Thank you for pointing out the mistake; I fixed that. This scenario is one I have not personally gone through, so I don't know that there is a solution to it.

If you can run fast, run the opposite direction in zigzags, getting in blind spots where he/she can't see you, and duck behind objects as you go by them. Once he/she is gone, find a quick hiding spot where you can see the road just encase he/she comes back. Fire at them when they return.That's the best I can come up with.

I would duck behind the newspaper box and, if I was not the target, they would likely quickly drive by and be gone. If you decide to try and be a hero and start firing at them they will probably fire back, and I doubt you will win against someone with a machine gun (other people in the car are probably armed as well).

If they were definitely firing at me, I would try to take out the guy with the mp5, and the driver would probably keep going and leave the scene (it is a drive-by afterall, they aren't going to stop and try to surround you).

My best solution that I came up with is to hide behind the newspaper box. As it was pointed out, it is unlikely that six shots could do much, especially under the fire from the submachine gun. My next step would be to start repeating all the particulars I could to myself (car color, make, model, anything I remember about the shooter, etc.) so I could tell the police what they need to be looking for.

Go to ground.
This will make you a smaller target. plus the shooter will have to try to aim lower this will be harder to do out a window.

The recoil from the MP5 will cause the weapon to raise.

If you have a speed-loader empty the .357 through the shooters door. at just above seat level. reload.
if no reloads four to the door and save the last two.

Don't shoot at the back of the car the battery will protect the people in the car.
Don't try to take the engine out as the batteries will keep it going.

Take out the shooter. the driver will then have to "try" to get him to medical help or get rid of the body in his back seat.

The thin metal of a newspaper dispenser proves very little worthiness for protection, but i guess it will do. Something is better than nothing.

In every situation i ever get into my mind goes on autopilot. And i literally see choices, kinda like a drop down box, and options kind of like the terminators (the movie) view from his
POV.

After i have scanned for my own alternatives means of cover i would look for any women or children that might be in the line of fire. After this split second scan to clear my conscious i would knock over the dispenser flat on the ground and lie in the prone position. The metal from this dispenser does not offer much in the resistance oh higher caliber weapons. But could pose as a good means of deflection from smaller arms fire. Also the advantage of lying down offers the least amount of target when facing the threat. Also if there is a full load of newspapers, situate your core vital areas around this area for more protection (head, chest).

Although not quite ready to return fire, i keep my weapon aimed and at ready to return fire if necessary. And if they are not shooting at me then i need not fire to protect myself.

The advantages here is that you are almost like a moving target scince they are traveling at 30 mph. You are in a prone position supplying the smallest target you can make.

If firing at me i would keep my head low under cover and return fire in the most appropriate direction even if not accurate. If they are encountering return fire they will be even less accurate of a shot because they will most likely trying to take cover from you as well.

If they stop the vehicle and exit. Then begin to try and flank you. I would run as low to the ground as i can in a zig zag formation to the next available cover i could find and maintain. Return fire again. and repeat. Until either "A" i was out safe or "B" i shot and killed them all.

Regardless of how skilled you are circumstance can always play a factor regardless.

Why go for the newspaper stand when you can put the car between you and the gun?

If i were as accurate with the 357 as I am with my 45 gap, Id like to think that I'd cross the street in front of the car, opposite from the guy shooting and blow a hole in the driver. That is assuming as you stated only the gun is hanging out the window.

Whats he gonna do, shoot through the windshield or even better through the driver? If so your odds are better as the driver cant see as well, the shooter cant see as well and the car is probably gonna be swerving at least a little. Gives you atleast a little more time to aim.

From there it depends on where the car goes. Hopefully with an injured driver they get out of dodge and so can you. If not, maybe go for the newspaper stand for cover? Depends on where they are.

Gotta remember, punk gangsters usually dont use good ammo, dont practice shooting and sure as hell dont plan well.
The smart ones dont do the dirty work.

Hit the ground, get out of sight. Only fire back if they slow down and try to aim right for you.

Chances are you're un-necessarily if you stick your head out to fire, and you probably won't hit them at that speed. And just waste your bullets.

An '01 prius in a bad area with an mp5 toting shooter...I'm an idiot in life and death situations(I get sarcastic with robbers, been robbed 3 times), and no fault off my own truly, I've been in plenty. Id lol at the irony off a driveby by prius, while working for cover or act as a smaller target, while utilizing my glock21. And its 3 magazines, if I don't stop them with the first 13rd magazine 1.

Oh...and if I have to have the 5 shooter you equipped us with, I don't like to waste bulletss regardlesss of capacity, so ill make every round count, if I must use them in the first place.

I would just stay behind the stand. Kind of pointless to try and fight back. First if you have a 357 revolver you have 6 shots. for some reason the op felt he needed to tell us there was an adult books store but not how many people were in the car. So all you know there could be 6 people in that thing. All you know is that one of them has an mp5, now an mp5 is not a cheap gangster gun so if they have that it would be safe to assume they have other guns in the car.
So a 357 can crack the engine block and stop the car it would be a dumb move. I know i never met a gun nut that did not think he was a cross between an olympic sharp shooter and chuck norris the odds of putting one in the car and killing all ther other passengers in the car without missing before they get a shot off at you are pretty slim. Plus even if you do fire back and miss or a bullet goes through them you are liable to any of he damages to the store fronts or innocent people you manage to hurt.

Assuming the shops don't have metal shutters covering the windows and the shooter has hit one of said windows, I would attempt to dive through it and take cover inside. Far better than a newspaper stand. If they hadn't hit a window, I would shoot one out myself and again, take cover.
If they weren't after me, I would just keep my head down and wait for them to go. If they were, I would try and blow one of their tires, then get out of the back of the shop.

Of course, that assumes there weren't shutters on the windows. If there were, I would get as low as possible behind the stand, and have the gun in my hand, but not visibly so, just in case.
