From 2004 until the present, I have worked at a renovated and remodeled hospital in a town not far my home. There have always been rumors of paranormal activity in this hospital, especially of a nun who hung herself. Many people have claimed a sighting of her walking the halls in her habit carrying a tray of meds and bandages for her patients. I didn't believe this claim until one day when I was on duty.

I was headed to the lounge for my break. Suddenly, there she was with her tray on the other side of the swinging door. The door had glass and I could see her from the waist up. She simply floated across the floor and into the wall on the other side. What a surprise! I immediately turned around and returned to my desk. I also told several of my co-workers. One co-worker had seen her and was not the least bit surprised by my sighting. She had seen the nun in another area of the building!

this one especially caught my attention
Black-Hooded Figure
by Dre

Another black-hooded figure with the red eyes, frightening but not threatening -- and with a sense of humor! I remember when I was maybe about 5 or 6 years old (I'm 21 now), an amazing experience that I remember very clearly. It was very late at night and I was in my room by myself. My parents slept in the room next to mine. My window and curtain were open and my bed head was positioned underneath the window but the right of it and the bed faced towards my door which I always left open.

I had gotten up for some reason, either to go to the toilet or to get something to eat, but I was standing facing my open door when suddenly the black figure appeared from the side of the door and moved to stand in the doorway facing me! I stood facing it and it stood in the doorway facing me. I felt strong feelings, indescribable feelings, and it was as if it was communicating with me through these powerful emotions, although nothing absolutely clear, like a particular word or sentence or even a particular feeling I could isolate. But I felt immense awe and shock and it was all black, and it was like as if it was wearing a heavy black robe and its face was also black, but it had very bright red eyes like the red light near a TV or stereo switch, or the red dot sight people have on firearms.

It was dark, but he was much blacker than the surroundings. Then, maybe after about 30 or 40 seconds, my fear finally succumbed and I jumped back into bed and dived under the bed covers! And I lay there being as still as I could, petrified, but then I started to wonder and to question whether what had just happened was real and my heart rate slowed, so I peaked out from under the covers and he was still there but he was now next to my bed and he was looking out the window but turned to look at me and his red eyes faced mine! And I retreated back under the covers again!

Thats crazy stuff man, I think they could be spiritual beings like a ghost, but then again who knows?

Definitely sounds more spiritual and less physical. But these days I'm beginning to truly wonder if there's such a distinct difference between the two at all.

Interesting stories. None of them happened while the person was sleeping, or resting, or doing anything to suggest they would be dreaming.

I wonder about the "unnatural fear" part of these stories. That seems to be a recurring theme with paranormal encounters. Is it some kind of energetic transference? Or is it just that we have grown so accustomed to our mundane everyday lives, that when something truly inexplicable happens, our brains just go haywire.

If it's just the latter, then wouldn't a state of pure emotionless shock be more common? The nature of the fear is highly emphasized in many cases - the victim makes a point that it was not just a phobic response but somehow even more intense.

I wonder if somehow, either people, or areas of land, can somehow *dip* into alternate realities temporarily. Perhaps there is a universe of pure mind, from which literally our nightmares can come forth, if only temporarily? Carl Jung made famous the concept of a collective unconscious. It doesn't need to be someone's personal nightmare coming true, it could be some kind of archetype embedded in this collective mind that temporarily takes form. Hehe, now I'm thinking of the book Sphere written by Michael Crichton.

I've seen a lot of weird stuff, but sadly I've never experienced a paranormal creature. I would love to hear someone's first-hand account here on ATS, opposed to reading some anonymous stories. That would allow us to really pick the minds of the experiencer, to really get to the bottom of it.

Cheers

And this thread counts as third. I didn't bother to look more of them.

He's just sighting his sources, and he's right, it is a nice sight. Get rid of the paranoia.

Might be the case, but when the source seems to be same throughout multitude of posts, it makes one wonder whether it advertising that is the motivating reasons. I might be wrong, but this got me wondering:
Thread 1
Thread 2
Thread 3
Thread 4
Thread 5
Thread 6
Thread 7
Thread 8

See the pattern? Okay, maybe he is just tad much interested in paranormal, and cannot decide by his own whether they are real or hoaxes...

I'd tell him not to take seriously all the stuff that he finds from the single site, which is mentioned in all above threads.

well here is a smaller story from the same site
This happened to me last night (January 12, 2010 - Gold Coast, Australia) and I have tried searching all over the net to try and get some rational about what I saw or why I saw it. I woke at 2:00 a.m. to see what looked to be the traditional Grim Reaper! It stood in the doorway of my bedroom with its hooded head touching the top of the door frame. It was in a dark robe, and the creature held the blade in its left hand (or it was leaning to the left side) and had no face; it was completely black. I didn't see a skeleton image as seems quite common in illustrations.

I lay there, with my husband next to me, blinking to fix my vision. I even pinched myself. The vision was there for 7 to 8 minutes. It looked over its right shoulder (into our hallway), then I blinked and it was gone.

After I got over the initial fright of what I saw, I then went and checked my daughter. She was fine. This really scared me and took sometime to fall back to sleep. I would like information on what this may mean, why visit us we are a young family with good health. Are there steps you can take to protect yourself from the paranormal? I can tell you I hope it doesn't visit again

why are their so many reports of hooded beings among all things? they range from half shapes to telepathic hooligans to spectres to the grim reaper himself. Son of Will said maybe our collective unconscious fears could manifest themselves or that people or places could dip into other realities. creepy if true, but fascinating anyway. is there something in the human mind the generally fears a figure in a hood? perhaps the hood is a metaphor for the unkown in the human mind and it is true that we generally fear the unkown. any thoughts? i am very interested on this subject

There is also that search button. Use it before you post, and you save yourself lot of pain. Many posts you've posted are already discussed in another threads. ATS search-function is your friend, don't let it down

Anyways, I have no experience of such shadow persons, expect the shadow. Are not probably the one and same thing.
