Fast food, frighteningly slow decay: Mother keeps McDonald's Happy Meal for a whole year... and it STILL hasn't gone off

www.dailymail. co.uk
Glancing at the two McDonald's Happy Meals pictured here, you may feel they look pretty much identical.

Astonishingly, however, this is the same meal, photographed 12 months apart.

Where any other food might be a mouldy, decomposing mess after a year, the McDonald's meal shows few signs of going off apart from the beef patty shrivelling and the stale burger bun cracking.

Just in case the article headline is too long to show the whole thing I'm going to restate it here:
"Fast food, frighteningly slow decay: Mother keeps McDonald's Happy Meal for a whole year... and it STILL hasn't gone off"

Proof, says the American nutritionist who took these photographs, that it contains so many preservatives that it is bad for the children it is aimed at.

Joann Bruso said: 'Food is supposed to decompose, go bad and smell foul eventually. The fact that it has not decomposed shows you how unhealthy it is for children.'

Mrs Bruso left the Happy Meal uncovered on a shelf at her home near Denver, Colorado, to see what would happen. She has revealed the results on her blog, in which she gives healthy eating advice to parents.

If this doesn't get you to not eat fast food, I don't know what will! I am posting this in the "breaking news" section because this is something that I think everyone must see - I know ATSers are all about eating foods that the government has pumped full of chemicals, so I thought this would be a wake up call to those of you who think the occasional Micky D's sandwich/meal is OK.

Just in case the photo I added from the article doesn't work in the OP, I am reposting it here:

I sincerely hope this stops just even ONE person from eating fast food anymore. I haven't eaten fast food for a long time - I admit I used to occasionally have McDonald's breakfast when I was younger, but that has stopped - for good!

In high school we all used to eat & hang out at Dunkin' Doughnuts before/after school. We'd all eat there breakfast sandwiches all the time. However one day I noticed an employee not only not wearing gloves (which I realized after that that they usually never did) but they were picking their nose right before touching my food! I know that is a bit off topic but I wanted to throw that in there in hope it adds to the grossness of fast (and semi-fast) food restaurants.

*edit to add this: I realize looking at the picture of the Mcdonalds food a year later is a bit different; actually only the burger patty looks different to me really, but be honest with yourself, food should be completely rotted and discolored completely after a year of sitting out like it did - how can you not agree to that?

G'day highlyoriginal

Like I said in the other thread.....

I think it's actually a hoax.

Kind regards

Is there any proof that it may be a hoax? I did realize it was from a blog so I knew this would come up, but I still felt compelled to post since if it is true, it is vile and very disgusting.

Nonetheless, it's vile and disgusting either way.

G'day highlyoriginal

I'm probably going to get a beating now because I said I think it's a hoax without having sources available to back that up.

I'm sure I read an article explaining how a hoax had been perpetrated regarding the "longevity" of McDonalds food.

Now I'm going have to see if I can find that article!

Kind regards

G'day highlyoriginal

I've looked around a fair bit.

I can't find anything regarding such a hoax.....perhaps I spoke too soon.

I'll have another look tomorrow.

Not a beating but an explanation. Take a human body for example, instead of fast food. Under most conditions, the body will decompose, be eaten by maggots or predators, etc. But that's not always the case, especially in very dry conditions. If the body is buried in sand of a very dry desert, it will have a tendency to dry out and more or less "mummify" instead of decomposing.

So, one possible explanation for how a happy meal could not decompose, is if it was kept in very dry conditions, like I don't know, maybe Phoenix or Las Vegas or ? Now I'm not saying this proves whether it's a hoax or not, but what I am saying is people showing me evidence of food decomposing outside of desert conditions, doesn't prove it's a hoax.

In other words, if it's not a hoax, it could be a "mummified" happy meal

www.azcentral.com...
Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a body found in the desert near El Mirage and Bell roads. The body is that of an adult and is believed to have been in the elements for some time. Deputies describe the body as "mummified."

en.wikipedia.org...
Many of the mummies have been found in very good condition, owing to the dryness of the desert and the desiccation it produced in the corpses.

If a human body can be mummified by desert dryness, why not a happy meal? It seems possible to me. Humidity and environmental conditions would be extremely critical to this type of preservation.

G'day Arbitrageur

That makes good sense.....

.....& I think it's the "artificial conditions" that were discussed in the hoax report I still think I read.

I have some background related to micro, etc... & I know it is a normal practice to exclude bacterial development by presenting antimicrobial barriers.

I guess that's what's happening when this food is placed into the jars.

Kind regards

hey has a point, you dont need proof it is a hoax, you need proof that it is not a hoax when you do an experiment like this
