It really depends on what kind of war it would be - conventional, nuclear, biological or viral. Or something else entirely - weather
modification/scalar perhaps. As we're in the information age, it could be argued that we at ATS are always on the front lines of an
informational/propagandist type war...most of us survive, others succumb.
The difficulty with an informational war, is knowing who is the enemy, and who is simply giving their point of view, however misguided or otherwise we
think that view might be.
That's how propaganda works so well.
It never ceases to amaze me how there were any survivors among troops on the front lines in 18th and 19th centuries. The tactics were simply
lunacy.
Dress in the brightest clothing you could find, form orderly and slow moving lines of troops, and equip then with a sword and a 3 minutes reload
musket!
Then order the fodder to walk slowly and stiffly towards an entrenched enemy. Lunatics.
The 'Great war' or WWI, wasn't much better, the only difference was at least the generals were marginally less mad, inasmuch as they allowed the
fodder to dig trenches and dugouts to shelter from the much more advanced weaponry.
Personally, and this is in no way meant as a note of support - but the Taliban have the right idea.
Guerilla warfare, in a conventional war is the way to go. Hit and run, sabotage, and so on, would probably be the best chance for survival against
superior arms. Obviously so. The Soviets, with their military might couldn't win against the Afghans in the 80's, who were employing the same
tactics then, as they are now against the UK and US forces (and others). We are coming up to almost a decade ourselves, and still no nearer to a
victory.
I though history was supposed to teach us something?
In a nuclear war, everywhere would be the front line, so unless you have stockpiled provisions and supplies enough to last years, down a very deep
hole in the ground, it's going to be pure luck if most of us would survive.
Same for the other types of warfare.
On that cheery note..
