I have a good movie of America's future...and I dread to see it come. Ever see the movie, oh about 1979....called Amerika. Chrysler sponsered it, there was a big flap on how dark and un-American it was.

It starred Kris Kristofferson, Sam Neal, Robert Urich,host of other character actors from the 70s-80s

Basically, America had surrendered it's sovereignty, was occupied by UN( Russian peace keepers) and had been broken into different regions.

I remember there were p"patriot" terrorists and a growing resistance movement. Life was dark and bleak under socialist rule/occupation. It only aired once, was a mini-series.

The biggest memory I have of it was how Washington and Lincoln were twisted into totalitarion images...kinda like Lenin or Marx.

Mine would be "I am the law" of course Judge Dredd, of the British comic fame 2000AD. Of course this would not only apply to the USA but most of Europe and Russia too. The mega cities and the automation of most work plants mass unemployment and crime is rife, the only escape is the wastelands, Trial without a jury!!

How many past movies made about a "future society" whose fictional timeline has already passed have come even close to being true?

Soylent Green
On The Beach
1984
Parasite
2001: A Space Odyssey
2010: Odyssey 2
Mad Max
Mad Max: The Road Warrior
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome
Paycheck

The future time that appears in these films has come and passed, but the real "future" was nothing like the futures illustrated.

Here's a list of other films whose timelines we are fast approaching, yet society itself does not seem to be heading in the direction illustrated in the film:

A Scanner darkly
The 6th Day

What about TV shows, such as UFO, set in the futuristic year of 1980? Or what about Space 1999?

I don't think that any of the films mentioned in this thread will be anything like the real future (not counting Idiocracy )
