Can someone explain to me how Obama is responsible for the firing of teachers in Rhode Island???

Shouldn't they be angry at their state politicians instead of Obama???

This just shows the irrationality of some people.

I think the Obama they burned was just a symbol of all TPTB.

While I don't think Obama's done a bad enough job (yet) to be burned in effigy I'm glad to see people are excercising their first ammendment.

Because the Sec of Education praised the school boards decision to fire the teachers. Obama's speech is being taken as also supporting the firings. link

On the whole, Obama's comments were not as bad as his comments on racial profiling that eventually lead to the "Beer Summit". However it does exemplify how a comment from a leader can affect profound actions as a result.

Please take note that I am not screaming about how Grad Nation is some sort of indoctrination agenda like some zealot hell bent on demonizing Obama might. Just that encouraging a knee-jerk solution without full examination of the problem does little to nothing to fix the problem at hand.

No burning, just the hanging of a doll by it's feet. And "Fire all the teachers" in a speech balloon. So he wasn't even really hung in effigy unless the the string was tied into a noose. Just more or less suspended so the blood would rush to his brain. (To induce thought maybe?)

edit for spelling--ballon, guess my keyboard needs to be fired

It is free speech (or maybe it really was a messed up lesson plan--which might explain why the students were failing aptitude tests).

While there is no comment from the teacher, one must wonder if the thought "What are they going to do, fire me?" was not somewhere in the thought process behind this.

My mistake, I misread the post. I guess my mind just made a subconscious connection between the teachers being fired and an actual fire.

I would say the modern educational system. The mollycoddling of children rates right up there as well. What was that line from the Incredibles: If everyone is special, then no one is.

Policies of extra funding for special education children equals a marked increase in special education children. While teachers hold quite a bit of responsibility for educating. So do the parents, so do the children so does the school board that approves the curriculum.

There are consequences to be had. But let us not fool ourselves. If everyone was a MENSA candidate and a Rhodes Scholar then many things in society would remain unaccomplished as well. Or are we to outsource all menial labor jobs to illegal alien (amnesty impaired) workers?

Well this person was upset because of a Obama administration decision. It is this persons constitutionally protected free speech right to protest. While I may not agree with the politics of it, I have to respect the right of the teacher to hang Obama in effigy as that is free speech.

Is it Obama's fault that the RI school district fired all of their teachers? I made no mention of the teachers right to free speech (although I will contend that it is inappropriate for a school setting), I merely said the teacher was ignorant....ignorant for linking Obama to the firings.

P.S. What decision are you referring to?

You are aware that the Federal government has an education department, right? And that states receive federal funding for education? And that the budget for said fund is dictated / presented by this administration?

One of the problems with having the federal government so entrenched in the workings of the individual states is that both look to the other to solve the problem. Meanwhile, neither does anything. It's a joint failure.

Shouldn't they be angry at their state politicians instead of Obama???

The word should be "ALSO", not instead of. Both the state and federal government are falling short of the desired education re-vamp we desperately need.

Perhaps they should focus on education instead of constantly getting side-tracked by a year-long debate on a certain reform bill....

Obama just can't catch a break from some people. Now, if he had intervened, I can guarantee that there would be the same haters saying "keep your federal hands out of our state run schools"...or start crying about indoctrination, or....
