Which country is your favourite in the world? It could be any country under the sun I would just like to know the country and why you believe it is the best.

Coasta Rica, is amazing, has everything yyou could want in one country, rainforests, atlantic coast (Good for surfing) caribbean coast (Good for chilling) relitively safe, attractive locals, pretty high up on the happyness scale i think.

You might get more interesting results if you specify "favourite country other than your own." One way leads you into a "my country is best" thread, and another way leads you into an "I like these people, I think they're friendly" thread. Which one are you after?

my fav so far that i have visited is switzerland,

im only going by countries i have personally been to, I ahve not been anywhere in southeast asia so it might be biased. Id love to see the whole world before my timecard is punched, but so far switzerland is the place for me.

It's a big place, lot of different people,
- too big to like or dislike all of it.

I believe the knowledge that your country has the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world, and has already used some, combined with awareness of America's economic power, (that was,) has warped the attitudes of many Americans in a way that is as invisible to them as their own farts.

The possession/prevalence of guns has done the same on a more private level.

When the easiest response is to point a weapon, people are less likely to develop empathy, or learn the skills of negotiation.

I believe the disdain for "underachievers," and self-serving determination many have to stop paying taxes and leave everyone to fend for themselves, is a result of this, and of the breakdown of "village groups."

America was once a great society. Now enormous pressure is being applied to convince people they'd be better off without a civilised society, and to return to the law of the jungle.


We're different in Australia.
We're just dawdling along holding America's coat-tails, so everything we can copy from you shows up here 10-20 years later.

Only been to the US beside my own but I can imagine that there are good people in every one of them. A country itself is just an imaginary boundry not set by me so therefore I say they are all equal. That being said, I'm glad I'm Canadian though eh.

Germany, Great beer, lots of history to study and warm and friendly attitude. An amazing countryside for campervanning/camping and the feasibles they hold every season. The language is not that hard to learn and it is a country trying hard to make up for its past mistakes..

Antarctica...

Aurora Australis, penguins, solitude once you get away from the bases...

This may be a shock, but my favorite country is Russia. I've been there 6 times, and I would move there in a heartbeat.

It's amazing to walk around in a village that was established in 1035AD

I love their simplicity of life. They are not spoiled like we are here. They have been through the worst already, and have survived. The forests are huge and awesome, full of blueberries and mushrooms. Their fields are covered with wildflowers. The people are caring and friendly. You can camp pretty much anywhere in the country without permission from someone.

Plus... they have cuckoo birds there.

I like my own country, it has a pleasant climate, and life is simple here.
But I also like the United States, simply because I like american (than japanese) video games and animations. Plus, it's a beautiful country and quite a high tech one, too. I don't care about their politics, btw. It's entertaining to watch, but pretty annoying if you get caught up in it.

Netherlands/Sweden

Educational system is amazing, health system is amazing and the government seems to actually be afraid of it's people. Which is something ALL governments should have.

I live in the Netherlands and i'm pretty happy here.
health care system is pretty good, with some exceptions ofcourse.
educational system is ok in my opinion.
but our government isn't afraid of raising taxes

it's getting pretty ridicilous for the middle class around here

I personally like Thailand very much since my mother & her husband recently moved there.

I love almost everything about it, the culture, the nice & friendly smiling people, the weather, the beautiful beaches etc.

My dear mother has opened up a business with a local partner and is now enthusiastically promoting this idea about me moving there to do something similar. My sister and her family are already trapped by mum and have now a nice small vacation home near my mother's house.

Well! maybe I'll do just the same in a couple of years, if the the Earth is still standing & still exists after 2012?

and consider it the best for me.

I would NOT like to live anywhere else.

I live in the UK - at the moment, anyway - and don't much like the way it's going... and since 2003 it's too obviously the US' bitch.

I did like Canada... but the NAU's coming, and their minister in charge of correctional facilities recently said (according to a Canadian I met a couple of weeks ago),

"you know, the rest of you are just the unconvicted."

So I'm very much sold on the Netherlands - people are genuinely pretty free, health care is good, and the culture of litigation hasn't spread there yet, which you can tell, because when they dig up the roads, you just have to walk around, there isn't loads of tape and signs for the hard of thinking. Plus, they have a relaxed attitude to certain things we can't discuss here.

Lived in the US for a while... some nice people, but a fascist political system. It's not that the rest of the world is left-wing, it's that the US is so far to the right it's dragging everyone else off the edge...
