So... how long before drone surveillance is carried out extensivley over any area of the U.S. the government wants?

Anyone remember the John Carpenter movie "They Live"? Little drones flying around keeping tabs on the unsuspecting poplulace.

As long as they tie everything to the illegal immigration issue, they should have no problems.

People will accept that government is trying to resolve the issue. Then, government will slowly move it inwards to help fight crime/gangs and get all of those illegals that are ruining our cities.

People will accept it once again.

It is a win win situation for the government. They get to play with their toys and at the same time monitor us.

IMO, the border doesn't need drones.

I think there are other ways that could resolve the border issue.

1)tamper-proof social security card.
2)Go after the employers.
3)Settle the war on drugs.
4)Redo the Visa system.

Considering the Border Patrol already uses drones, I don't see how the Texas govt. using these domestically is any bit new.
And honestly, this is probably easier for manhunts on foot to track down a suspect more quickly than waiting for a helicopter to maybe get on scene if it can get there fast enough.

Yikes.... I bet they get even smaller. I wonder how birds react with these. Most I think would attack it. hmmm

They really don't need those drones , with all the cameras they have everywhere.

I always assumed they had already deployed drones near the border on certain stretches of highways.

Has anyone ever seen the signs on the highways that say, "Speed Enforced by Aircraft?" The main road I have seen these signs on was I-10, which goes from the West Coast to the East Coast traveling through Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, and Jacksonville. The signs occur when you get very close to Mexico.

Certainly they are not monitoring our speed with F-16s or helicopters because the fuel would be way to costly, but that would be using common sense. So, they probably do use fighter jets and helicopters to help the state troopers speed trap you.

Think about the simple, and well established fact, that military technology is at least five or ten years ahead of anything in the public or commercial sectors.

Those drones are probably "old hat" technology and nothing in comparison to what is in use by the military.

Factor in that we have invisible tanks in the UK, then combine that technology with unmanned spy drones, and you've got one hell of a surveillance machine!

We should be demanding a stop to this.

While everyone so far is getting worked up, you need to realize that you are watched everywhere... traffic cams on the way to work, in the parking garage as you park, in the elevator on the way up to you your cube..... then you log in to the "company network" and use their resources to your job and are still subject to being monitored. even if you are on "break" you are still using their equipment and they have the right to monitor such usage. I think that people get way too worked up on this issue..... get over it

I will never get over surveillance. Without vigilance things can go from iffy to terrible pretty quickly. Complacency is a terrible affliction. That said I agree paranoia does not help but at the same time, "getting over" the loss of privacy is tough to do considering the government itself values it so much. The "do as I say not as I do" mentality has never washed with me personally.

Hi Bulldog,

I would be willing to guess that if someone you loved was attacked late at night in a parking garage and some "punk" denied it .. you would be very grateful to have evidence of that crime no?... if you are not doing anything wrong.... why worry?.... If we don't like that fact that we are being held accountable to standards of society that we choose to live...... choose another place.. While I don't have a problem with being "watched" if I could " drop off the "grid" and live in the woods somewhere, that could be the way to avoid being "accountable"

If you travel by air today, you have been identified and recorded even before you make to check in..... then you hand over your passport to a customs agent and everywhere you've been comes up on their screen. In Canada is here, but on a recent trip to London, England I was amazed to see how much more prevalent cameras were....

Casinos are huge users of the latest tech...... you are being watched!!
I read somewhere about a Vegas Casino ( can't remember which one) but Large denomination chips were RFID enabled so camera could "count" the money you have in your pocket so they could "tailor make" the service to high rollers

good or bad ... it's where we "live" now...... I think it amazing that tech has evolved so far and when I invent the "next level" of this tech.... maybe I'll share with my friends at ATS!!
