Ghastly Slaughter of Research Monkeys Prompts Calls for Oversight

www.foxnews.com
Workers at a Nevada research lab were checking on a primate room when they came across a ghastly sight: Thirty dead monkeys were essentially cooked alive after someone left the heater on. Two others were near death and had to be euthanized.

how would you like to be researched upon and caged up, pumped in chemicals everyday and to be tested upon.
your ignorance amazes me unless you work for a similar company as they do.

we all need these animals in part of our chain too, what's life with no food chains???

to be of a non caring nature really strikes me as a greedy race, which truly will never be elite.

They should raise the fine up to 1 million dollars, maybe then they'll stop being coolly negligent every time they kill a defenseless animal in a freakish painful way.

1 million dollars per death.

But I bet those workers are so desensitized because they actively kill animals in their testing and on purpose.

Medical historians have shown that improved nutrition and sanitation standards and other behavioral and environmental factors—rather than knowledge gained from animal experiments—are responsible for the decreasing number of deaths from common infectious diseases since 1900 and that medicine has had little to do with increased life expectancy. Many of the most important advances in the field of health care can be attributed to human studies, which have led to major medical breakthroughs, such as the development of anesthesia, the stethoscope, morphine, radium, penicillin, artificial respiration, x-rays, antiseptics, and CAT, MRI, and PET scans; the study of bacteriology and germ theory; the discovery of the link between cholesterol and heart disease and the link between smoking and cancer; and the isolation of the virus that causes AIDS. Animal testing played no role in these or many other important medical developments.

www.peta.org...

Human clinical and epidemiological studies, studies on cadavers, and computer simulations are faster, more reliable, less expensive, and more humane than animal tests. Ingenious scientists have used human brain cells to develop a model “microbrain” that can be used to study tumors and have also come up with artificial skin and bone marrow. Instead of killing animals, we can now test irritancy on egg membranes, produce vaccines from cell cultures, and perform pregnancy tests using blood samples. As Gordon Baxter, cofounder of Pharmagene Laboratories—a company that uses only human tissue and computers to develop and test its drugs—says, “If you have information on human genes, what’s the point of going back to animals?”

But we are, fluoride, Aspatme, vaccines, processed foods, GM foods, TV.
The list goes on, they primates are not like us, they know they are caged, we just don't see the bars, but we are just as caged as them.

For the record, I do not agree with animal testing, I do agree with animal tasting however

If that happened to me or any other human it would be murder.

Millions of animals are killed every day in worse ways. Their remains can be found in your local grocery store or restaurant. Probably right on Your plate or at least the plate of every other person you know.
Because monkeys look like us somewhat it's different? How about rats? Mice? Worms? Hundreds of thousands more of those creatures die in laboratories than monkeys. You would kill a rat that was in your kitchen right?
If you lived in the jungle, you'd crack open the head of a monkey to eat it's brain.
Somehow that is different?

Who is ignorant really?

i think you will find its an urban myth, theirs no actual legitimate scorce that says that anyone has ever ate a live monkey brain ... someone most likely has at one point over the course of the earth, but it doesnt seem to Actualy happen .

i was just reading, the story/roumer was started when someone posted a story (no evidence for this story being true ) online and it spread through the nets various bbs's and forums... which led to the urban myth we know today!

i found all this out in 5 mins, really, people should do a bit of minor reaserch before posting such dumb lines.

edit... AND SHOCK HORROR, theirs absolutely no picture evidence of monkeys being eaten alive, the tabels with restraints ect, if something this sick actualy existed you can bet your bottom dollar their would be pics online!

that is part of the food chain which is acceptable, every animal should have the freedom to demonstrate its natural behavior as it would in nature, and in most countries that is the law

and savageheart,,, i completely agree

If you would bother to look at the link I provided you will see a picture of the monkey brains dish. They crack the skull in half and serve them on the half shell. It is true that people in some parts of the world eat monkey. Is that hard to accept?

I don't know if the live monkey in the middle of the table is true. I did see it on Faces of Death back in the 80's but I can't say for sure it was real.
