Death penalty dead and buried as Parliament bans it for good

THE death penalty has been buried forever after Federal Parliament passed laws ensuring it can't be reinstated in any jurisdiction.
While no Australian state or territory uses the death penalty, the laws were needed to ensure the situation could never be reintroduced.

Both sides of politics supported the move which is largely seen as symbolic.

Do you think the pollies have done the right thing? Let us know in the comments below.

what about child molesters and pedos?

Sometimes..... SOMETIMES I wonder
Should they be arrested or treated as sick???

Maybe criminally insane?

they are criminally insane.

Most of those types of people have LOTS of mental issues. Most of which can be "ended" in youth... should parents actually learn how childrens mental functions develop (the study of psychology would be beneficial).

You've a good point.

They arent going to kill these guys... Maybe they should do something useful with them though?! So what good is a murdering, coward, sociopath to society? Well I have a feeling trying to figure out the answer to that will take longer then passing the bill did. Unless we send them to mars . I really do personally love the Idea of sending them to mars. Or put them doing hard labor somewhere thats important that nobody else wants to do.

Educating them may help as there is a very large percentage of those in prison w/o a formal education past grade school... most dont even finish. I think it was like 40% dont have a GED or equivalent... or maybe it was 40% cant read.... im pretty sure its the GED one tho.

REGARDLESS. They are useless and a just a wasted TAX on society. They should be required to grow their own food...build their own things... and work for the society that they offended until the day they die... or until a psychological evaluation shows huge cognant changes in their brain chemistry and patterns of thinking. Its no easy choice.

Basically in regards to this. Everyone is being asked to make a choice. Do they live or die... and nobody wants a death on their conscience. So I say... Send them to MARS! Or the Moon! Preferrably Mars... to build silos and stuff for future explorations...

Death penalty dead and buried as Parliament bans it for good Well Hooray for Australia!!! Rapists and child molesters deserve death, there's no debate about that in my mind... as well as mass murderers. However it's possible for innocent people to be wrongly convicted and then sentenced to death, especially as we move closer towards the even more corrupt future. I applaud Australia with this very humane decision to permanently ban cavemanism.

There's a little bit of equivocating in your position! Reading between the lines, you aren't very sure. Ban the death penalty, but leave a little bit of it to deal with 'rapists and child molesters...and mass murderers?'

There's echoes of the Spanish Inquisition Sketch in there...

It's a hard decision to make and the uncertainty is understandable. Still, for my money, I'd get rid of the death penalty completely.

Hey there, I must agree in some way I guess!

I think the death penalty should be for those really give us no other choice. It's not a trap door operated by a red button to be conveniently pushed all the time.

If these folks can do SOMETHING then they might be worthwhile. If they can pick up litter and grow crops then I think our society should consider them to have some redeemable value (despite their sickness).

It still is a matter of resources.... how much money do we want to put into nursing the skills and intelligence of uneducated convicted murderer/child rapist..
