Not surprising coming from Australia.. though my personal belief would be to take rapist, murderers, and chronic repeat offenders and drag them out back in a group once a week and shoot them. Why, think of the money we could save.. and we wouldn't have to worry about repeat offenders being let out to rape and torture once more. I have lost count how many times in the past few months a young girls body has been found and a sex offender is arrested, and people act shocked.

Oh yes, great solution. Because we all know the world is made out of money and there is no shortage of that going around to keep these mass murderers and child rapists in prison for the rest of their lives.

Let's get real - evil isn't going away. Men aren't going to stop committing atrocities against each other. The prison population is going to pile up and the costs to keep these madmen incarcerated for life are just going to skyrocket.

And we haven't even discussed the possibility that at some time in the future, what if a law is made that somehow gives ANY of these mass murderers or child rapists amnesty or parole and lets them out? We know for a fact, especially here in the U.S., that a life sentence is NOT ALWAYS a life sentence. That criminal can get out and then they are free to kill again.

And then you have society screaming "WHY!?" - as in why was this madman ever let out of prison? "Why is he allowed to breath air and eat when my daughter was raped and beaten and lies dead in a heap in the trash bin because of this monster? Why was he allowed to kill again?"

Put that on your "humane" conscience.

While it is controversial..

I believe this is a good move for our society as a whole. We cant just kill the things that we dont like. This move symbolizes that we appreciate lives at all costs... even in the worst of times. (Not sure its true for politicians... but ey I like it still)

IT DOES HOWEVER raise a lot more questions about what Aussies are going to do about offenders. My personal preference is send them to Mars to start a new colony Whoo Hoo Humanity's Future!!

So the way to deal with a bad bill is a bad decision like death penalty?

I mean aren't you talking about something entirely different?

One may say you are talking about stupid politicians or a stupid justice system, however in my opinion you are actually referring to corruption.

This is something I will never understand especially coming from people who consider themself republicans. It makes ZERO sense.

I disagree with the aussies on this one. I think doing away with the dealth penalty is a bad thing. I don't think we can let the weakness in our system distract us from the underlying fact: Some people just don't mix well. Whether it's in their genetic code, or they just didn't have enough love as a kid, they will never change!

You don't lock up a sick (dangerous) dog at the Pound and hope that someday you can reintroduce it to the neighborhood. Nope, you have it euthanized.

It's not and never about money.

If money can bring back the innocent dead, I assure you, the many loved ones of victims would gladly give it, beg,borrow and even steal.

No human deserves death, unless he forsakes civilisation, no matter what he had done. By killing another, the murderer had forsaken humanity, to become the beast that societies around the world for generation had sought not to regress back to, for our ancestors knew what it was like living in jungles where jungle laws ruled.

I am saddened by the repeal of the law. WWF will be happy. Murder may no longer be a crime, but an extended holiday in some jails, while innocent loved ones of victims weep.....:-(.......What had Australia done.....?

I think it was the most well thought out response to the death penalty controversy.

The death penalty should never be enacted unless the criminal is found to be as close to 100% as possible.

With that aside, the death penalty is illegal...WHAT?

We can go overseas to kill potential enemies yet we can not kill the real ones living right next to us.

Here in the U.S, I assume by past polls and friends/family members that it is WIDELY supported.

Kill them damn criminals. The people who commit real crimes.

Revenge is a deterrent.

You kill a person (criminal intent), you deserve to be killed back unless those affected far and wide declare otherwise.

The next thing that needs a death penalty is this new legislation.

Laws are based on a system of ethics and morals.

Ethics and morals teach us that killing is wrong.

Why do some believe that a right can be done through doing a wrong?





I have never, nor will I ever understand why human beings feel that they have the right to destroy another life, regardless of the acts the life committed. The worst part is that a number of people who support the death penalty are also religious. In the teachings of almost all religions, it teaches that men are not the ones to pass judgment on others, but rather, God.

How will anyone learn to do good if a bad deed is done to stop them? What kind of example does it set for the rest of the world? Yes, some acts are heinous (with murder being the most, others being a matter of opinion), but will killing the people stop those acts? Has the death penalty, throughout time, brought an end to such crimes? No - it has only pushed them to continue.

Some people just don't understand the finality of death. You stand on the outside and feel so smug and confident when you pass judgment upon others, however, it would be a sin should other pass judgment against you. People make mistakes. The only way the mistakes are stopped, is to learn from them. Death is not a lesson - it is an end to all lessons.




I salute Australia for this advancement in human intelligence.
