"Well-rounded" sounds nice, but is also vague....

Why not just give kids the truth and let them make up their own minds?

I guess no one cares about the truth anymore. Everyone just wants their side of the political fence to be right. It's just crazy. I suppose if I ever have kids and don't agree with what's being taught in public schools I should sue the gov't. With all the lawsuits the gov't will be forced to raise taxes....and then we can all blame them (as usual) for everything wrong in the universe...

If only everyone was a "free market christian".......or if only everyone was a "free thinking liberal".........I guess that's what this world is coming down to isn't it!

If anyone wasn't seemingly too dense, my point exactly!

If any of you people have read todays textbooks, they're not exactly chock full of well-rounded.

I think it is good for children to have " more than one flavor".

I am the exact OPPOSITE of the EXCLUSIONIST that several of you are making me out to be!

I am sorry, but DUH!

And where is the Christian BS coming from???
Have I mentioned Religion at all?

You people accuse me of NOT READING?

I cant say I agree with this change mind you, but....I know I have been sick of the whole liberal global warming thing being pushed down my kids throats the last couple of years either. Seems the non christians did a good job working religion out of schools, now can we get all political crap out as well?

Sick of listening to people who understand that 7 billion people can have an adverse effect on their environment? What is so hard to believe about that exactly hmm? No one is asking you to believe in the invisible man..... just use a bit of common sense. No we can't put civilization on hold in fear of our own carbon footprint, but we can make informed choices...

Why does it have to be "non christians vs christians?" Is this how you teach your kids? Don't you think some christians believe in global warming processes and climate change...

way to miss the point there captain....thus validating mine...

I never said you had a problem with TJ.

I don't have issues with Thomas Jefferson's writings inclusions or exclusions.

clearly you don't have a problem with people who have a problem with thomas jefferson. You don't care what gets taught in schools, so long as you're told it is "well rounded" which is obviously very easy to convince you of.

Well I'll tell you where I stand.

Should have nothing to do with God or Global Warming.

God is for sunday bible study or to be taught by the kids' parents. Global Warming has no place in history books because it belongs in an atmospheric sciences class. It might get touched upon in some basic high school science class, but (hopefully) it's role would be small. It's still an emerging field of study so I really doubt there is much in k-12 (public) education....

Sorry about that.

I will be leaving.

ATS seems to be filled with hate and vehemence anymore.

I didn't post lockstep with everyone's liking and they decided to invent things and call me a christian, when they know no such thing to be true.

It used to be enjoyable, sadly not anymore.

I agree with you Scramjet76. This is nothing more than liberals trying to find a talking point that resonates with people. The Texas BOE is not removing Thomas Jefferson from the history curriculum. The same arguments can be made on the right about why one person is or is not in each chapter of each textbook with equal results. If the understanding of who Thomas Jefferson can be acquired from section A then why repeat the same content in section B, so they are removing him from section B and replacing that with other useful content.

This is just one group of the political spectrum being full of hate towards Texas for daring to take a stance on what the students in Texas are taught. I've seen plenty of dubious/and outright wrong information in the textbooks and I'm sure all of you have as well. It seems that anytime anyone challenges the status-quo there is going to be hell to pay.

You make some good points. Honestly, I'm not sure how they can write a "non-biased" textbook in this day and age. It may not be possible!

I don't remember much about my public school education, but I remember them not covering much past WWII. Perhaps we should leave it at that, because ever since the Korean War, we have become a nation of left vs right........ No one has really challenged us since the fall of the Soviet Union, so the only threat we can make up is the kind to destroy us internally.

pretty easy...just hand the job over to me....
I can present a counter argument for anything. I don't care which side a represent, I just wanna argue for the sake of there being 2 or more sides to every story. I'll sit and argue with myself all day, who cares? Forming solid opinions is for egotistical chumps. All my opinions are...liquid, that's why I'm the greatest guy ever....see...here I am contradicting myself already. Life is a catch 22. get used to it kid. Facts don't exist in history because you can't talk to the dead, or see any of it for yourself. Want me to argue with that as well?

so write a book that has a left and right version of things....how hard is that? present a counter view for everything...how hard is that? Thats all I do. Thats all I do.

You have me on board. Unfortunately convincing people that the point of school is to learn seems lost today in our culture.

It's more of a tool for herding people towards a money making job (something tangible) or a political indoctrination (another drop in the hat for the major puppet masters).

Teaching classes from the point of view of simply thinking is something you won't convince 1/2 the people in Seattle.....soo good luck with convincing the Texas State Board of Education.
