I noticed the seismos near Sisters yesterday and thought it might be some kind of mistake. After looking at the recent tremor activity, I began to wonder if the two things were connected.

I am pretty sure that the seismos do not usually look like this, however, I am still learning, so I was glad that you posted this information, thanks.

You may just be on to something, as the tremors seem to have moved down to Oregon and the Sisters area is in between the new tremor locations.

Are we living over a giant magma chamber, and if so, what does that mean? Or is it just another unexplained event that will go away. I am hoping it will go away, as the tremors seem to have moved underneath where I live yesterday and now they seem to be in Southern Oregon.

Thought I read that the deep tremors were only in Washington state. Is this the first time that the deep tremors have been in Oregon?

In 2005, I remember reading about the mystery bulge near the South Sister mountain in Oregon. This article mentions that there may be a shift of molten rock under the Cascade range.

Mystery Bulge in Oregon Still Growing

The bulge stopped growing in 2006 (I believe), and I have been watching for stories about this area ever since. That is why I sometimes look at the seismos for that area, always thought that the bulge might start growing again.

Westcoast and All, I have started a new Thread for Three Sisters. There is just to much going on in the area to have it all rolled into one thread here.

Also, Three Sisters in located in the state of Oregon.

Here is the latest report:

Aug 22,2010 - Yikes! Lots of Cascadia is lighting up with tremor today. The main ETS patch is now straddling the Straits (Honn's TAMS system using only Canadian data has been reporting tremor being seen on southern Vancouver Island stations for a few days). The patch of tremor just south of Olympia continues. There is a new patch just south of Portland and a burble in southern Oregon. What the heck is going on? Time will tell.

Don't you just love it when the experts ask what the heck is going on?

Almost 700 epicenters located in the past 43 hours. MAP

The three sisters continue to keep us all wondering...thanks AnnMarie for starting that thread...and I'm just not sure what to make of it.

I pulled up those siesmos on GEE and stretched the mess out enough to see that those signals are in the 4-5 mhz range.

Time will tell I supose. Still no earthquakes recorded at the three sisters, so that is good at least. If we start seeing some, expect there to be some official statement about it from PNSN or USGS.

I'm not going to sit and blag your heads but here's a thread of mine regarding what I think is happening. Feel free to have your eyes roll over it. Up to you.
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Its very important for threads like this. Things are heating up and it seems like you are the only people will consider what's happening here. You have seen global events etc you couldn't make it up...... Rings true with The Bible. Revelations.
This thread along with others covering quakes, volcanoes, weather, solar weather etc also as far as prophecies they will become top news on here soon and for the remainder of the duration.

Well AnneMarie got confirmation from the PNSN that Puterman was right about the seismos at three sisters. It appears to be a bad radio signal. Thank goodness!

It did bring to our attention though that the coverage is a bit lacking. Especially now, during this whole deep tremor period that is still on-going, by the way.

No update since the one from the 22nd that I posted, but the tremors are still rolling out. 494 in the past 32 hours, seeming to be clustering more at the tip of the penninsula. MAP

I happened to be in that area yesterday. Took the Kingston ferry across the sound and the spent the day over there. Only thing I noticed were my darn ears...it was like I was going over a mountain pass the whole time, couldn't get them to clear up until I left. Wierd.

Several quakes again today...not surprisingly in the area of the swarm. One was just 2 miles away from where I was:

Finally, here is another update dated yesterday:

Aug 24, 2010 - The main ETS tremor is now on southern Vancouver Island but with a persistent patch continuing just south of Olympia. However, the total number of tremor locations by the wech-o-meter is down quite a bit compared to the past week or so. The AofA team has switched with John and Steve returning to Seattle and Ken and Heidi talking over doing the servicing. Reviewing the course of the tremor associated with this ETS it seems to be following very closely the previous two ETS. At this rate it will be over in about 7-10 days.

SOURCE

So according to this, it is following the previous two and should be over in about a week. They again mention that this is associated with ETS, so I am assuming this means there is some sort of movement whithin the subduction zone going on right now. Maybe why we are seeing so many quakes?:

Don't be fooled by the ones listed for Mt. Saint Helens. If you look at the acutal location, they are about 15 miles south of her. Doesn't mean it isn't related, but for those that follow know that if there were consistent 2+ mag quakes happening inside the volcano, it would be a big deal.

Here is the latest:

Aug 25, 2010 - Most of the tremor is now north and west of the AoA experiment and thus we are starting to talk about when to pull the plug on the Texans (which take daily diaper changes). To help we have produced a set of comparative tremor plot maps for the most recent 4 ETS broken down by weeks. The last column is for the current ETS and will be updated with another week in a few days. Anyone care to guess when we can figure this puppy is too far away to be seen by Texans?

LINK

It looks as if we are past the climax of it but it isn't over yet. Hopefully there are no surprises!

They provided a new link to some very intersting comparrison maps from the past and current tremors. Take a look HERE . Most interesting is the map for the current week past (week two). Note that for the current swarm, there have been 3,140 epicenters located, compared to 1,465 from 2007, 1,948 from 2008 and 1,861 from 2009. According to those, this time around has been double what it was in 2007 and over 1,100 more than 2009. Now, I know there was a newer array put up, so perhaps they are just now able to locate them better? I don't know, but that's a LOT of tremors!!!

We are still getting a steady stream of quakes here also. Here is the current list from USGS:

Yup, it now looks as if it is concentrated on the end of Vancouver Island, and a cluster down in Oregon. Here is the latest info from the PNSN:

Aug 30, 2009 - Today was the last day for regular servicing of the Texans. However, since a big rain is forecast for tomorrow we decided to let them all go one extra day and not start the pull out until Wednesday. They all should have batteries to keep clocks going until at least Thur even if they stop recording on Wednesday morning. Tremor continues on Vancouver Island; with most of it quite a bit north-west of Victoria. However there was a small burst yesterday evening near Sooke on the south coast that might be recordable on the AofA.

LINK

Interesting to note also is that St. Helens seems to be getting active once again.

Puterman just gave me a heads up on THIS article. Some amazing stuff in there! It is an article discussing some advanced maping using the speed at which siesmic waves travel through the ground. (to put it very unscientifically) It actually suggests a connection between the Plume at Yellowstone and the cascadian subduction zone. Here is a snippet:

if the Yellowstone hotspot is indeed fed by a plume from the deep mantle, as these results seem to indicate, when it first ascended towards the surface it would have intersected with the subducting slab, and what we are seeing in the tomography is the aftermath of that interaction. Effectively, the upwelling plume burnt through the subducted plate beneath Oregon on its way to the surface, heating it up enough that it lost its rigidity and was assimilated into the asthenosphere, leaving isolated fragments further down dip that were no longer connected to the plate at the surface. Tectonic changes at the Cascadia subduction boundary around 19 million years ago, notably a large reduction in the rate of plate convergence, could be linked to this splintering of the subducted plate, and the reduction in slab pull that would have resulted. After overcoming this barrier to its upward passage, the plume head then reached the surface 2 million years later, causing the eruption of the Columbia River Basalts.

So I am not too sure what to make of this, but ofcourse the first thing that comes to mind is that it gives me some validation on my comments from about a week ago that in looking at the 'bigger' picture, I can't help but that think there is a connection bewteen Yellowstone and the PNW.

Westcoast, have you noticed the small swarm of tremors today in the Arlington area? Look to be moving slightly NE. RIGHT TOWARDS ME!!

The only reason this really bothers me is because, this morning, I had this horrible feeling of 'EARTHQUAKE COMING' that happened suddenly and out of the blue. This was before I had heard of the NewZealand quake.

Noted that general moods in the public sector that I have come into contact with today have been good, and no unusual animal activity.

I just have this weird feeling. It has stuck with me all day.

Where are you seeing these tremors at? USGS has a couple of small ones in the State today..but nothing very close to us. I had a strong feeling late last night/this morning also.

Lots going on around the world today though...still feels as if things are building up. I just watched show a couple of days ago on discovery about the PNW and how we are so overdue for the 'big one' which will be similar to but worse than the chile quake.

Westcoast, they are on this link: www.pnsn.org...

However I just realized that the map is a day behind, so the ones on the map were from yesterday. So maybe it is getting closer.....??

I don't know if it makes me feel better or worse to know you have been having strange feelings too....

Edit to add: I have also been thinking a lot about how overdue we are for any type of significant quake, maybe it is just nerves, but it almost feels physical as well, like a low electrical charge. I don't know.

Ahhhh...I had been looking at the normal USGS region map. I hadn't looked at the deep tremor map today. You're right, there appears to be a new cluster just south of us. Interesting. Can't wait to see what the results from today look like.

I know what you are referring to also, with your feelings. I have heard this from several others that have lived in this region for a long time.

So Brandyfro...do you have animals? If so, are they acting normal?

My dog is acting wierd again, like last time. I'll be keeping an eye on things...we had that quake off the coast of Oregon earlier, like a couple of months ago and it looks like the tremors aren't over yet. Maybe he's picking up on some of that. Last time, it involved the juan de fuca fault. I think the sound (or whatever it is) travels along it.

Westcoast, I have two dogs and two cats. my eldest cat (10 months) has been very antsy the last few days. My chihuahua wants to be held all the time, much more than usual, and my Australian Shepherd has been pacing a lot more.

This has been going on for probably 4 or 5 days. Last night was much more intense for them. Unusual activity throughout the night. I suppose it's a wait and see game, but I am glad to now be tuned into their behaviors so I can be a little more aware.

Good idea PacificBlue. My cats are still off the charts today tho, they were running all night and still today. They usually spend a good amount of time 'cat-napping.' Could be the change in weather too I guess. If they sensed the Oregon quake, I wonder if they would still be reacting to it?
