Transformer Problem Causes Massive Blackout in Chile

A vast area of Chile, including the capital city of Santiago, was plunged into darkness Sunday by a massive blackout, the National Emergency Office said.

The area affected covered a 1243 miles stretch affecting about 80 per cent of Chile's population of 17 million people, officials told AFP.

The blackout was caused by problems with a 500KW transformer - a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another - Chile's Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter said, according to Reuters.

The electricity problems were not believed to be directly related to the massive earthqua

This is probably fodder for the HAARP folks. Since it says that it was not related to the earthquake

What else can affect transformers besides normal degradation, and solar activity?

If you think about it, the ability to knock out the power and blame it on solar flares is a pretty good weapon, perhaps better than causing earthquakes

i think so too, show off a little hit other countries around the world....
i also think they will make a force shield over iran that just totally makes them cover themselves in nuclear dust.
