New York hasn’t had a big earthquake in 126 years, and history suggests that we’re likely to have one every century or two. That said, we’re in little danger of a Chile-level megaquake—but it’s also true that the city’s buildings are vulnerable during even a moderate temblor. By Christopher Bonanos Published Mar 7, 2010

I don't think I would like to be in NY if a quake hit there.

more worried from the flooding dangers then a quake up here personally.

This weekend was pretty bad. Even a moderate quake would've caused less potholes then the wall of water closing out roads in NJ the past two days.

My geology teacher mentioned New York and earthquakes the other day. He started talking about how NY was due for another one and how it would be a really bad situation if it was large enough (with all of the buildings as close as they are in the main cities).

I wouldn't say I was shocked to hear about it, but I kind of was. I've never heard of New York being able to have earthquakes (or at least a really sizable one) before.
