I live in Sydney, Australia and am VERY concerned about the Australian Government's incoming internet filter.

In response to thread's covering the issue :

I Guarentee ATS will be banned by Aust Govt

Australian Net Filtering - Why is this not a big deal?

What I would like some help with is how to find and use overseas VPN providers and proxys.

Should the filter be implemented as currently proposed then sites such as ATS will be out of reach for people like myself.

Once this happens it will be too late for us to get advice regarding proxys and the like.

So I don't know if this will work, but what I propose in this thread is some SIMPLE advice in regards to proxys/VPN providers so us novice Aussies aren't left in the dark once it's too late.

So let the experts take the floor - be sure to give stars to those helping out us novices

It's a complication, but if it's going to come to it, then this will be the way to bypass. I cannot watch Neighbours anymore, a) because cannot access Channel 5, not saying Channel 5 is bad just can't get it b) went off it, since they took the direction of plot where occasionally people killed. Much preferred it happier times. No one smoked, everything was ultimately not too bad, and occasionally brilliant. Now script writers (some of them) are directed with the false delusion that you have to have something awful in order to fully appreciate the good plot lines. No wonder millions of people in our country have, do, or have suffered from depression, registered as a severe kind. And the Brown administration pays out billions of pounds a year on the pills to try to treate these depressions, many of the pill users suffer terrible side-effects, or commit suicide, or lead life with great obesity resultant to these pill prescriptions. For me, once years back, my acute depression was conquered with marijuana after entering a psychosis of depression having taken Haloperidol, without the Procyclidine. (Procyclidine - the acetylcoline receptor inhibitor, producing endorphin and serotonine boost amongst other effects)

Using proxies will NOT prevent your ISP or your country, however using a secure proxy or VPN will.
I suggest to use secure proxys and search engines, that is those that use https:// instead of http://, your browsing may be a bit slower but even your ISP will not be able to see what you are browsing.

How do we locate such sites which use https instead http?

For example, is there one for every site? Or just selected sites?

Thanks mate.

The thought crossed my mind as to whether anyone would be able to post this stuff...

I've been following some other threads on and off, tho may have missed what you are referring to.

When the mods get back to you, and if we are indeed able to post such information, it would be great if you could please come back to this thread and post the info here - even if there is a dominate thread elsewhere for it.

Maybe someone will search in here and I would like all who are curious to have access to the info.

In the meantime, google will do i guess

only few sites use https but you do not need all sites to use https as long as your proxy uses https (ssl) you are ok. I would use a secure (https) search engine as well, so if my proxy stops working I can look for another one.
one such search engine is www.ixquick.com... you may need to change your settings in order to use its https version hit my settings near the bottom of the page then select SSL and save. Use that to look for secure proxys.
