Contact your Human Resources Dept.. This guy may be pushing his authority where it can't go. Then again, maybe it does...

When you do, be courteous. Professional. Above all, don't be angry. Lay out your case. Your thoughts on the matter, and ask for clarification. Then, and only then, make a decision.

I have to concur with some of the folks above. The guy has it in for you. Has there been a pattern of this sort of thing? Has he made comments about anything else? Performance? Attire? Tardiness? Attitude? I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong but if he's been making any such comments about you then chances are he's just building himself a list of things to present to the higher ups to get rid of you.

I also concur with those telling you to keep your options open. Don't leave unless you have something else, of course, but look around. This doesn't sound like a positive environment for you.

Seriously, good luck. I don't have any words of wisdom as it seems you have to give up your soul to work for a corporation these days. Basically you lose all rights to grievances and either have to put up with all the crap or leave and leaving is a problem in this economy. Not too many jobs out there.

You can go above his head and try to get him in trouble, but that will only put him in the "out to get you" mode. You'll get to use ATS on your lunch break again, but you'll probably just find yourself getting seriously disciplined for minor violations that would ordinarily just get you a "no-no" speech.

That's just the way all *ahem*-headed bosses work. It's all about the power trip.

I suggest you forget about the ATS issue. Instead, get him fired for refusing to pay your overtime and not letting you take your paid vacation time. File a lawsuit and watch how fast Corporate shows his *ahem* the door.

Dude you must have a lot more self-control than I do. And I think I`m pretty patient person. But I would have walked out on the spot and made as big of a scene as possible. But just to be clear I would make sure that his rule was that I wasn`t allowed to be on the site even on my own time, at home for example. But if he simply doesn`t want that site displayed on his property, then I would have to respect that. But then, if it WASN`T his property and he was only the shift-supervisor, in that case I would comply for the moment until I had a chance to talk to the owner or at least this supervisor schmuck`s boss and at this point I would present my case along with any extra compromises I would be willing to make in order to keep this particular liberty such as; agreeing not to bother the customers with my theories (at least while on the property and while on-duty, if you meet up after work at a different location, thats your business) and maybe I would agree to only look at the site in the breakroom and not out in the store(which I believe you said you were doing it in the back room right?). But ya if he doesn`t want this site on display for emplpoyees and such to view then you at least should have the right to do what you like when you leave his property at the end of the shift, provided you are not wearing a unionform with his logo or look. but if none of that worked =I would try to make him lose as many customers and employees as possible. You have to stand up to people like this

It's your computer, your wireless, and your time. The guy is an idiot and doesn't have a leg to stand on. Start keeping a log of this harassment and check out your state's employment discrimination laws.

Talk to an attorney with a speciality in employment law too. You won't have real and consequential damages until you're fired but I would start doing the leg-work now.

Finally, Winn Dixie's "IT Policy" doen't mean squat. YOUR COMPUTER, YOUR WIRELESS, YOUR TIME (lunches/breaks, etc.)

I see everything from advice from inexperienced young people to emotionally charged bad advice.

When at your workplace you must comply with your employers wishes, lunch hour or not. Jerk or not, your boss can let you go without fear. They are paying you, you are not paying them.

When at your workplace you represent the company. Your attire can be controlled, what topics or conversations you are allowed to discuss and what behavior you are to exhibit while representing them.

Any attorney that would get involved in that would be an ambulance chaser you would not want anyway.

If you are unhappy, keep working, keep your mouth shut and stay there until after you are hired elsewhere. If you want control, start your own business.

Hopefully that job is just to pay for your school. Until you have value, you have no freedom on any job. To get value, you must learn skills, either in school or on the job.

Angry bosses at workplaces like that are the norm. Your boss is stuck in a dead end job himself.

Education is everything in this world and I don't mean what you are learning here.

Since you were on property, I would say he could have a "right" to say don't be on this website while on property. This also could extend to your car if it is parked in the lot, to me it would be along the same lines of letting the drug dogs sniff around cars at schools.

I'd just leave ATS at home..like someone else said, politics don't belong at work.

On another note...if this guy really does have these shady practices regarding overtime and such, it is your DUTY to report him. It doesn't matter if it is happening to you or not, it's an injustice. If you report him for that after you get fired, you will look like a disgruntled employee. Waiting to report things is NEVER good.

And I am quite appalled about the inspector thing, they both should be reported. By putting this on here, it could be argued that you are liable as well. That's people's health they are messing with. (I know some "expiration" dates are suggestions, but they are put there for a reason)

My thoughts exactly, obviously we don't know the whole story but my theory of the situation is this.

You probably talk about conspiracies in the open air at work a lot and you might think you are entitled to talk about whatever you want at work while in a grocery store, that is simply untrue. It's just like cursing. You're political views and conspiracies and related stuff are offensive to some.

If this is not the case I'm sorry, but in my experience a simple viewing a website will not cause a management type to freak out, there has to be a reason behind it.

The thing that would worry me is if you have somewhere in you're contract about not being able to view certain sites, and if they have the right to ask you to cease if you're browsing a site they deem wrong after it has passed through their filters and had time to examine it. This could be the case, and if it is my thouts about it are that big companies normally have these policies as to keep there selfs clean from investigations, not because they are worried what kind of content you are viewing.

It would be because they are trying to avoid investigations, they have to comply with request for information, that requires a staff to work, meaning more money. Everything comes down to the bottom line with these guys. And that means they know already these sites are being watched and filtered by the government, If they are filtering for it you can be sure the feds are.


Edit: there are open posts about how they want to overthrow the government here, and to join up for the causes i have seen. That is a very touchy subject i'd imagine. And in my honest opinion should not be aloud on this kind of site. I'd imagine thats what all the fuss is about.

It is not legal to fire you for this reason. IF it were during work and distracting you from doing your work properly thats a different thing. But this is in your lunchbreak so he doesnt have any rule that support him on that.

This is a site wich many of the high ranked government employes has been a part of,former CIA\FBI\NASA ect. It is a very good reason why Obama per today want to shut this site down. If you havent heard it before, some members of this site has lost their own lives just to get the hold of secret information.

Keep visiting and make sure your are recording when he checks on you again. if you have a web cam turn that on too. Then if he threatens you or fires you make sure to tell him by the way I was recording some other stuff and now you are on record with those comments also.
