G'day Misoir

I have not read all of the comments in your thread. Nevertheless my thoughts are as follows.....

Don't upset your boss.....you don't want to lose your job.

Have you asked him why he feels so strongly about it?.....Perhaps he's had a bad experience with a friend of family member who's been getting strange ideas from the wrong sort of site.

If your boss is just a total SOB no matter what.....then find another job before you give him a piece of your mind or demand your rights.

Good luck

Kind regards
Maybe...maybe not

I only read the first page.

My advice to you? DO NOT TAKE LEGAL ADVICE FROM ATS MEMBERS. I cannot believe how irresponsible the people giving "legal advice" are. If you really want to know your rights consult a lawyer - or - just let it go and look for a new job. You can be absolutely certain that anyone giving legal advice based on this thread IS NOT an attorney - and believe me, "at will" employment suits are very complicated. If you go the route of suing... be prepared to spend mega $$$ up front and also be prepared to be up against corporate funds. They can wait you out while you go broke.

Dude you must have a lot more self-control than I do. And I think I`m pretty patient person. But I would have walked out on the spot and made as big of a scene as possible. But just to be clear I would make sure that his rule was that I wasn`t allowed to be on the site even on my own time, at home for example. But if he simply doesn`t want that site displayed on his property, then I would have to respect that. But then, if it WASN`T his property and he was only the shift-supervisor, in that case I would comply for the moment until I had a chance to talk to the owner or at least this supervisor schmuck`s boss and at this point I would present my case along with any extra compromises I would be willing to make in order to keep this particular liberty such as; agreeing not to bother the customers with my theories (at least while on the property and while on-duty, if you meet up after work at a different location, thats your business) and maybe I would agree to only look at the site in the breakroom and not out in the store(which I believe you said you were doing it in the back room right?). But ya if he doesn`t want this site on display for emplpoyees and such to view then you at least should have the right to do what you like when you leave his property at the end of the shift, provided you are not wearing a unionform with his logo or look. but if none of that worked =I would try to make him lose as many customers and employees as possible. You have to stand up to people like this

WD fired someone for doing drag on weekends at a gay bar. Never anything during work, just outside of work. That was in the late 90's. Apparently Winn Dixie (The Beef People) have this illusion that they can control their underpaid employees during and outside of work.

He cannot control what you do off the clock like that, and if he fires you over it, see if the drag queen can't connect you with the same lawyer that fired up a pretty decent out of court settlement.

If you are on a non paid break, you are able to do whatever you want. your boss can not tell you which websites you can visit on your private time. It doesnt matter what your state laws are. you cannot be fired for viewing a website on Non Paid Time. You can contact your local labour board for more information. But I guarentee if he doesnt want you on the site then hes in some sort of organization that is against posts on this site.

My thoughts exactly, obviously we don't know the whole story but my theory of the situation is this.

You probably talk about conspiracies in the open air at work a lot and you might think you are entitled to talk about whatever you want at work while in a grocery store, that is simply untrue. It's just like cursing. You're political views and conspiracies and related stuff are offensive to some.

If this is not the case I'm sorry, but in my experience a simple viewing a website will not cause a management type to freak out, there has to be a reason behind it.

The thing that would worry me is if you have somewhere in you're contract about not being able to view certain sites, and if they have the right to ask you to cease if you're browsing a site they deem wrong after it has passed through their filters and had time to examine it. This could be the case, and if it is my thouts about it are that big companies normally have these policies as to keep there selfs clean from investigations, not because they are worried what kind of content you are viewing.

It would be because they are trying to avoid investigations, they have to comply with request for information, that requires a staff to work, meaning more money. Everything comes down to the bottom line with these guys. And that means they know already these sites are being watched and filtered by the government, If they are filtering for it you can be sure the feds are.

Edit: there are open posts about how they want to overthrow the government here, and to join up for the causes i have seen. That is a very touchy subject i'd imagine. And in my honest opinion should not be aloud on this kind of site. I'd imagine thats what all the fuss is about.
