Yes, of course. I was thinking "don't these people ever go outside?" lol.

Doctors generally say 10 minutes a week of direct exposure should do it, and most of us get that just going back and forth to our cars.

The health benefits outweigh the risk of overexposure.

Edit to add: Vitamin D is stored in the liver, and in the past it was "healthy" to eat the liver of an animal who lived in the sun. Such as cows. I once read there was enough V-D in the liver of a cow to last a human for about one month.

But now of course we are told not to eat the organs of animals due to fatty tissues and toxins.

Best go with sunlight and supplements, I suppose.

Depends where you live I guess, here in london it feels like most of the year we have grey skies. So We dont get much sun. When we do it's soooo refreshing. woooo.

MDV2,
This is Bull ****, I am a nutrition educator one of my principle jobs is to educate children on how to get their vitamins, and where. Human beings make their own vitamin D when exposed to the sun. 15 minutes of sun exposure in a short sleeve shirt gives human ALL of the vitamin D we need for the day, its is created as we absorb the sun into our skin. Vitamin D is added to our milk products mainly for children, and started in the 1950's when scientists and doctors realized kids spent more time inside because of school, and thus were not exposed to enough sunlight, especially during the winter months. Vitamin D helps us absorb calcium thats all, and there are alot of other places we get it also.
This new study is just another way to add something extra to our foods, and raise the price- and are we sure its gonna be vitamin D and not something else more insidious?
Take it with a grain of salt and look it up- the info is out there.

As a kid I never drank packaged milk from the store, ours came straight out of the cow, and it wasn't pasturized either. Im healthy, have no deficiencies, no current diseases, and my bones are strong,. Its a load of BUNK.

I have never, in my entire life, seen a post so blatantly ignorant. Are you honestly going to attempt to say that Vit. D has nothing to do with bone strength? Did you ever happen to read about a condition called Rickets while you were educating people?

Honestly, with "educators" like you it's no wonder why people are clueless

Star & Flag...important info! I have been taking 6000 units of Vitamin D3 per day, for the last several months...No flue, no colds and feel great except for the pains of being 63 - Ha

Vitamin D3 is broken down by the body into a substance called calcitrol, which actually has very important cancer fighting properties. Read more about D, D2 and D3 here:

Too bad cows are fed corn not grass.

Because they form a healthier, more dense form of protein with corn as opposed to grain.

Farmed salmon in North America are fed cheap grain from Asia. Salmon don't eat grain in nature. But somehow it magically works!!!

Wow....isn't nature crazy. My point still stands.

E. Coli that kills people is from cows eating corn -- it makes them sick!!

as someone who doesn't get out enough, i generally have a policy of never using sunscreen. i don't get burnt because i don't spend long enough in the sun or regularly go out during the peak hours of sunlight, but i tend to think it surely does us no harm, even in the summer, to go out for 20 minutes or so unprotected so long as you arne't getting yourself burned! i think there's an awful lot of scare mongering. that said, those people who tan all day and sometimes get burnt i wouldn';t be so confident about :p
