Doctors generally say 10 minutes a week of direct exposure should do it, and most of us get that just going back and forth to our cars.
The health benefits outweigh the risk of overexposure.
Edit to add: Vitamin D is stored in the liver, and in the past it was "healthy" to eat the liver of an animal who lived in the sun. Such as cows. I once read there was enough V-D in the liver of a cow to last a human for about one month.
But now of course we are told not to eat the organs of animals due to fatty tissues and toxins.
Best go with sunlight and supplements, I suppose.

Depends where you live I guess, here in london it feels like most of the year we have grey skies. So We dont get much sun. When we do it's soooo refreshing. woooo.
