Epidemic of Vitamin D deficiency sweeping the world

www.prisonplanet.com
A new study published in the March, 2010 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that a jaw-dropping 59 percent of the population is vitamin D deficient. In addition, nearly 25 percent of the study subjects were found to have extremely low levels of vitamin D.

In fact, vitamin D deficiency may be the root cause behind so many degenerative diseases that correcting this deficiency across the population could very well devastate the for-profit “sick care industry” that dominates western medicine today.

Teach the population about vitamin D, in other words, and the cancer industry would suffer devastating losses in profits (vitamin D prevents 4 out of 5 of all cancers).

This is perhaps why so many of the businesses and non-profits that depend on cancer (and other diseases) for their authority and power are actively fighting against vitamin D awareness. The National Cancer Institute, for example, which is one of the wealthiest non-profits in the world, actively runs full-page ads that attempt to scare people away from sunlight, thereby causing them to remain in a state of vitamin D deficiency.

Billions spent on decades of cancer research, yet no cure has been found. I love pharmaceutical conspiracies and I truly doubt that no cure exists like they pretend. Obviously, these cures are well hidden in the pharmaceutical' safes.

Being the number one killer, expensive medicines are most profitable. Keeping people ill and slowing down the process is more profitable than curing people with relatively cheap cures.

Even though I attempt to live relatively healthy, it is new to me that Vitamin D plays such a vital role in preventing cancer - 77% is extremely significant.

people used to put their babies out in the morning sun for 15 mins a day. dont do it anymore. sick people also used to be left out in the morning sun for this amount of time each day. we used to know about vit d, but we've forgotten.

now with cancer paranoia, we're slathering our kids in sunscreens containig carcinogenic additives that are probbaly giving our kids skin and other cancers as well as making sure they get zero sun on thier skin. look for natural, safe sunscreens in your health shop.

also people sit in offices all day and never go outside as much as we used to.

Many people have become fearful of going outdoors without applying sunscreen. Many women's moisturizers and cosmetics contain sunscreen. The sunscreen reduces the amount of Vitamin D the body can make from sun exposure so people can end up Vitamin D deficient even if they're spending a good bit of time outdoors. Source.

My doctor wasn't aware of this. He suspected I was Vitamin D deficient a couple of years ago, tested me, and confirmed the deficiency. I took supplements and that increased my Vitamin D levels. So the following summer, my Vitamin D levels went down some. I forgot to take my supplements daily, but my doctor was surprised my levels went down considering I was outside in the sun quite a bit every day in the summertime.

So he increased my supplements. Since he was baffled why my Vitamin D levels would go so low after getting so much sun exposure, I decided to do some research. That's when I found out about how sunscreen can prevent the body from making Vitamin D.

So I stopped wearing sunscreen unless I had prolonged sun exposure, and that helped.

I thought wearing sunscreen all the time was good for me. After constantly hearing that it can reduce the chances of skin cancer, I started applying it before sun exposure. I had no idea it could cause Vitamin D deficiency, and neither did my doctor.

So I'm not surprised to learn so many people are Vitamin D deficient. Many of us have had it pounded into our heads to not go into the sun without sunscreen. I hope more doctors are becoming aware that many people are Vitamin D deficient so they can start testing their patients and hopefully reverse the situation.

To be honest I stopped wearing sunscreen a while ago. I used to suffer from prickly heat when I was younger and found out that the sunscreen was blocking my pores preventing me from sweating. My father never wore sunscreen in his life, and he worked a job that constantly took him abroad and to hot climates. He never suffered any ill effects as a result of not wearing sunscreen. So this is now the route I adopt. Our body produces natural sun protection in the form of menalin (which also makes a tan!) so I prefer to trust nature instead of the money-grabbing pharma companies According to scientists my decision to do this has probably doubled my risk of skin cancer, but at least I won't be vitamin D deficient!

"Ultra-violet light from the sun transforms ergosterol on the skin into vitamin D which is in turn transferred from the skin into the bloodstream" KNOW YOUR NUTRITION by Linda Clark

What if the depleting ozone, and even sunscreen is preventing this process from occurring?
Cod liver oil used to be a cure-all and with good reason. Vitamins A& D.
Not too many people take a daily dose of cod liver oil these days. Vitamin D is found in smaller quantities in egg yolk and milk.

Symptoms of deficiency:
(same source)

paleness, fragile bones, soft teeth, arthritis, osteoporosis, insomnia, TB, sensitivity to pain, nearsightedness, muscle spasms, cramps, bronchitis, noseblee, restlessness, fast heart beat delayed healing. Similar to symptoms of vitamin A and calcium deficiency.

But you can overdose on D (although I am sure it is difficult even impossible unless you are taking many supplements) D is the only vitamin besides vitamin A that can be toxic when taken in too large doses. It is stored in the liver and accumulates. Symptoms of toxicity: (same source)
Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, cramps, tingling in fingers and toes, intense thirst, confusion, headaches, pain in jaw, hardening of the arteries(calcification) tender teeth, joints and muscles.

American journal of Clinical Nutrition says adults can benefit from 2,500 - 5000 IU vit D daily. In older people plagued with stress, illness and aging may take even more. 10,000 IU daily can cause toxicity in Vitamin D sensitive individuals and 50,000 IU may bring on toxicity to the rest.

There is no vitamin D1 in supplement forms (as of this writing)
Vitamin D2 is synthetic, known as calciferol and is made by irradiating ergosterol. Vitamin D3 is a natural form of Vitamin D.

Some people recommend large doses of Vitamin D but only twice a week since it is stored in the liver.

Interestingly only 400 IU Vitamin D were found to be safe on a daily basis for dogs. The author limits her D intake to this amount. Another doctor recommends cod liver oil capsules (which I am going to purchase after reading this thread and looking up info in my nutrition book -so thanks OP) be taken one a day to start (because they can cause "repeating") and gradually increase to 8 capsules daily.

Yes, of course. I was thinking "don't these people ever go outside?" lol.

Doctors generally say 10 minutes a week of direct exposure should do it, and most of us get that just going back and forth to our cars.

The health benefits outweigh the risk of overexposure.

Edit to add: Vitamin D is stored in the liver, and in the past it was "healthy" to eat the liver of an animal who lived in the sun. Such as cows. I once read there was enough V-D in the liver of a cow to last a human for about one month.

But now of course we are told not to eat the organs of animals due to fatty tissues and toxins.

Best go with sunlight and supplements, I suppose.
