In the rear view mirror, it's now clear porn is used as a form of political control. Get us to think about sex, and we won't think about how our freedom is being taken away.

I just had to laugh. If anything it makes you think more about politics/freedom as you have more time to think about that stuff as opposed to having a significant other where most of your free time would be taken up by spending time with them.

Just some personal experience to throw out there. More porn = less running around chasing every hot girl you see = more productive individual.

At least that's how it works for me.

I personally find porn psychospirtually unhealthy. If people of legal age want to view legal pornography made with consenting adults, fine, I wouldn't try to take that right away from them. But I think in most cases it has negative effects on the viewer.

This is only my opinion, and its based more in intuition than science, I freely admit that. But I have learned to trust certain hunches, and my take on porn is negative. Because I see sexuality as a kind of psychospiritual energy. That energy can be used in any number of ways. It can be used to fuse two people together in love. In certain rare cases it can be used by expert devotees in divine sexuality like tantric sex, etc., but this takes a lot more pratice and committment than most people think -- its a lifetime effort, not a weekend hobby. Sometimes celebacy can work in other spiritual traditions, too, by using this energy and diverting it to other ends, although that's not a popular notion these days and many frankly believe its impossible simply because its very difficult and demands great psychological and spiritual understanding and discipline. Sexuality can also be sublimated and channelled to various aggressive ends...young men whose sex drive is crushed into darker avenues can make ruthless suicide bombers or youth soldiers, for example.

I have a hunch...only a hunch...that what goes on with excessive pornography viewing is a kind of dissipation of this deep internal force, a dulling if you will. Its probably not the end of the world but I think it makes for a wasted energy. I don't think its necessarily lethal but perhaps its the equivalent of susbsiting off of snackfood instead of vegitables, for example.

When one has sex with a real human being, hormones pass between the two bodies through sweat and other secretions, linking them in subtle ways. The nerves from toe to head are stimulated, on parts of the body like the arms and legs and torso, not just "other areas"...this also electrochemically links the two bodies and fuses them. A totally visual-genital based form of sexuality, used exclusively, is not a natural enegagement of one's full vital sexual energy.

Again, I see this more as a matter of psychospiritual health than of morality...I grant everyone of legal age their choice to indulge in legal, ethical porn made by consenting adults...just as I give everyone their choice to indulge in gigantic bags of chips and tankards of cola. Doesn't mean its always the healthiest way to fly, though. Just my two cents. (sure to be unpopular with the posters here, I fear...)

I don't think there's anything wrong with porn, but silent thunder has a good point..

Perhaps if we were all a little more hippyish in our approach to life, we wouldn't even need porn in the first place. Really, it only exists to fill a void left in our lives by the old morality of the church, where people couldn't have sex with each other unless they were married -- and we still have a manifestation of that attitude around.

Oh please, the world is currently filled with casual sex and always will be. We are human beings with sexual organs, its just the way it is. It is the hope of strong relationships that urge people like myself to pursue monogamy. I don't care what rationalizing arguments are put forth, the relationships present in a whores life tend to be weak, short or painful, that is also just the way it is.

..seems like a really uptight and unconnected with reality person, imo, and his article is an 8year old re-worked whine-fest thats blames playboy magazine... poor thang, never heard of hollywood or the "rule of thumb" or religiously approved misogyny...

there's more to education than just what your claimed major is.

You can major in physics and put up a better debate about porn than something who majored in psychology.

It's about gaining a well rounded skillset and education.. the "major" is just to prepare for a specific graduate program.

Unfortunately, women are like dogs. They're all the same, even when your emotions blind you into thinking yours is special.

The only difference is that my dog is loyal and doesn't talk back to me.

Chase? Go to the right places and you won't chase anything.

"Hi, what's your name?" usually gets the average hot chick into bed

You know what a great title for a thread would be? How about... Is trying to put my values on everyone else a window as to how much in control I want to be of others, I dont like porn so therefore you shouldn't.

I like my women to act a certain way, if they dont act that way I think they are degrading themselves. We are not individuals with independant thoughts and ideas, we are men and women, culturally and sexually divided along the lines of my choosing. You may think you choose to be a stripper, porn star, actress, but really you are just destroying society as society is what I imagine it to be.

Sure would be nice if we could accept we dont own other people. Guess I'll have to dream about that reality.
