I have been mulling over writing this thread for a while.. I am in the process of moving back to the UK so you can imagine that everything is up in the air and tensions in the house is high... However I see the ignorance of this issue on many threads and can see the results of sin manifest in them too in terms of information that is twisted to meet the ends of certain people to the point of being infectious.. Spreading misinformation that in turn affects society as a whole... A viral flu of lies..

So what is sin? Is it a religious control mechanism on society or a real malignant force in the world?

Firstly we have to identify what the universe is.. The answer to that is found in the quantum world...
People would have you believe that the universe is infinite, yet the fact that the universe has a set limit on the smallest scale kind of suggests that it also ha a limit on the largest scale.. Eg... Stars can only get soo big before they implode inwards on themselves.. This suggests a limit on how large things can become in the universe...
Quanta are much like zero's and ones in the digital world... They are like the pixels you see on your computer screen when you look close to it.. However when you draw your head back to look at the whole screen, you see a picture of the whole of a system that behaves in much the same way as a computer simulation... Or more accurately a quantum simulation..
The universe behaves in much the same way as a computer program with information traveling from one place to another, then gets transformed into another form that gets sent to another sub system that carries out that very same process... Thermodynamics... There is NOTHING in the universe that does not carry out this process... It also explains the Genesis creation event where God said "let there be light." However the sun was not created until the 4th day so why light first and then the sun?
Energy is information in its purest form.. Light is pure information... So when God said "let there be light" this was Him putting all the information necessary into the system so that it would come together and coalesce into workable sub systems in their own right that keep the whole in equilibrium... As stated; information gets transformed from one form to another and from one place to another.. The same way a computer simulation works... The quantum world does this and so does the macro on the universal level... The universe is a giant quantum simulation... I can go deeper on this but have limited space...

The event in the garden of Eden is a simplified version to what took place... Man was in equilibrium... In the Goldilocks and the 3 bears zone of "just right"... However, for want of better words, a "virus" was planted by the serpent, the virus of sin...
Man was in equilibrium, however this extra "knowledge" that he took on board took him from a system in equilibrium to imbalance because he was not designed to take on board this additional information... A positive feedback occurred where the sub system that could introduce the virus (us) got infected and infected the whole... because of the
none locality of quanta, Adams own "system" was able to infect the whole universe with this virus.. A little leaven, leavens the whole lump... that is what happened.. this took the whole universe out of equilibrium with each star sending required transformed and transfered information to the next, to everything being out of harmony.. This forced the whole system and its sub systems to have to equalize... However the imbalance caused so much disparity, that the subsystems received too much information or too little, and when that happens.. As is the same with computers... They start to or indeed crash... Hence the wages of sin is death because it is natures ultimate act of equilibrium..,. The natural state of this transformed universe is death... Even the stars die...
Sin therefore is why we have earthquakes, famine, infidelity, theft, mob mentality because whenever information is added or taken away from a system... It crashes and dies...

I apologize for this short presentation of a huge subject... Im moving home lol! And country! But will respond when I can...

FYI... I have written an extensive book about this very thing which will become available free in due course... It includes prophecy/Yeshua the man and as the Word etc.. I will post when im done adding to it lol... (those additions are thanks to the people on this site.... The people here are such an amazing resource!)

Sin (Akkadian: Su'en, Sîn) or Nanna (Sumerian: DŠEŠ.KI, DNANNA) was the god of the moon in Mesopotamian mythology. Nanna is a Sumerian deity, the son of Enlil and Ninlil, and became identified with Semitic Sin. The two chief seats of Nanna's/Sin's worship were Ur in the south of Mesopotamia and Harran in the north.Name

The original meaning of the name Nanna is unknown. The earliest spelling found in Ur and Uruk is DLAK-32.NA (where NA is to be understood as a phonetic complement). The name of Ur, spelled LAK-32.UNUGKI=URIM2KI, is itself derived from the theonym, and means "the abode (UNUG) of Nanna (LAK-32)".
The pre-classical sign LAK-32 later collapses with ŠEŠ (the ideogram for "brother"), and the classical Sumerian spelling is DŠEŠ.KI, with the phonetic reading na-an-na. The technical term for the crescent moon could also refer to the deity, DU4.SAKAR. Later, the name is spelled logographically as DNANNA.
The Semitic moon god Su'en/Sin is in origin a separate deity from Sumerian Nanna, but from the Akkadian Empire period the two undergo syncretization and are identified. The occasional Assyrian spelling of DNANNA-ar DSu'en-e is due to association with Akkadian na-an-na-ru "illuminatior, lamp", an epitheton of the moon god. The name of the Assyrian moon god Su'en/Sîn is usually spelled as DEN.ZU, or simply with the numeral 30, DXXX.[1]
[edit]Background

He is commonly designated as En-zu, or "lord of wisdom." During the period (c.2600-2400 BC) that Ur exercised a large measure of supremacy over the Euphrates valley, Sin was naturally regarded as the head of the pantheon. It is to this period that we must trace such designations of Sin as "father of the gods", "chief of the gods", "creator of all things", and the like. The "wisdom" personified by the moon-god is likewise an expression of the science of astrology, in which the observation of the moon's phases is an important factor.
His wife was Ningal ("Great Lady"), who bore him Utu/Shamash ("Sun") and Inanna/Ishtar (the planet Venus). The tendency to centralize the powers of the universe leads to the establishment of the doctrine of a triad consisting of Sin/Nanna and his children.
Sin had a beard made of lapis lazuli and rode on a winged bull. The bull was one of his symbols, through his father, Enlil, "Bull of Heaven", along with the crescent and the tripod (which may be a lamp-stand). On cylinder seals, he is represented as an old man with a flowing beard and the crescent symbol. In the astral-theological system he is represented by the number 30 and the moon. This number probably refers to the average number of days (correctly around 29.53) in a lunar month, as measured between successive new moons.
An important Sumerian text ("Enlil and Ninlil")[2] tells of the descent of Enlil and Ninlil, pregnant with Nanna/Suen, into the underworld. There, three "substitutions" are given to allow the ascent of Nanna/Suen. The story shows some similarities to the text known as "The Descent of Inanna".

The "light" reflected from the moon is merely light from the real source that is the sun, hence is false... A reflection of the real truth in other words... That is how the virus gets us and is a classic example where Chinese whispers of the truth become a false reflection of it after time... From the light of the sun to the light of the moon... However even the "light" from the sun itself is nothing compared to that of the creator who said that in the end times "YOUR SUN will shine no more"..... Interesting that scripture should say that huh? Particularly when sun worship is linked to satan, and he is also called the "prince and power of the air", which is the electromagnetic spectrum... The sun affects moods and everything else on this world.... Sounds like a prince to me! Will add more about that later...

For the record I am not endorsing this ancient god known as sin I just find it interesting to learn that there was a god with the name sin . This god known as sin is also from the same reign as Abraham , if I am not mistaken .

Could this term sin in some way be related to this ancient god ?

I suggest you read the book of Jasher which you can download for free online... It kind of fills in the blanks of the stories of people like Abraham and even mentions in detail the pre deluvian state of man...

When you consider closely... Sin itself would seem like a god in terms of its ability to take life 100% every time... An example of humans trying to do away with this problem can be seen in South American Indian culture (Aztecs/Toltecs etc) where they would use the "seed of the woman" as told in Genesis that would deal with sin to stop their destruction... They sacrificed their own people because they thought that their blood (seed) would stop time which they incorrectly identified as sin.. They saw things "dying over time" and knew that "the seed of the woman" would do away with it, but no matter how many people they sacrificed it did not work... Time therefore was not sin but something else... Time itself is the medium with with which information can be transported from one place to another and one form to another.. Thermodynamics and time are therefore the same thing..... However sin put a stop to the harmony of that operation so therefore is an addition to the system from an outside source....
But That "seed of the woman" did come..... He came to save the most important information in the universe... Us.... Before He does what we all do in the event of a virus, from those in our computers.. To those that kill...
YOU SAVE AS MUCH OF THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION AS YOU CAN, THEN YOU PURGE THE SYSTEM... Yeshua is the anti-virus for us before the whole gets burnt by fire to purge the system of it;

2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

I suspect you did not read my whole post or did not understand it...

Look at it this way...

Imagine you place a coin on a table on its edge.... You leave it there.... Unless you or anyone else does anything it will stay that way..... However if you flick it, it will start to spin..
It will spin ok for a while, but the information/energy you provided it with your flick is starting to run out... It spins erratically... Then it expends all of its energy/information at once then falls FLAT on the table.... DEAD....

That is how sin works... We ourselves are always looking for that "flick" to keep us going, however when we get it it only satisfies for a while...

Porn is an example... what starts out as looking at naked ladies, ends up with looking at some pretty vile stuff... This destroys your ability to have normal sex with your partner, this creates problems and you split up.. So sin has killed your relationship plus any kids you could have had... That is not my experience btw!! Just an example of how the virus of sin acts at a small level...... The harmony of correct information has been taken away to that where we get a little, or too much... Too little we die (food is information too), too much we die... That includes too much or too little of anything.. That is why we can get addicted to the strangest things... We actually get addicted to information.. The internet for a start.. Or food which is information, or just about anything... We as sentient beings can usually find that extra flick to keep us going... But we still die.... Because we ar not in balance, and the information we receive in any form is corrupt too... Therefore the only way we can harmonize is to die... natures ultimate act of equilibrium

I understand.

"How sin works"? No, there's no evidence that sin "works" that way.

Porn has never sent me down a darker path.

You can use sin as a metaphor, yeah, but it's not something tangible you can blame when the world doesn't fit into your lil box.

Yeah, well this conversation is going down hill fast, I get what you're incoherently cramm'in down my throat and I don’t like the taste of it.

Peace be with you.

OK... Let me ask you another question.... Can you NOT sin??.... Can you abstain from the things you hold dear??... I'm not saying those things are sinful btw, but what about the traditional sinful things?

Lust?... Yeshua said that to even look at someone with lust is to commit adultery in your heart..

Hate? Yeshua said that even to hate your "brother" then you have already committed murder in your heart...

Can you NOT sin???

Be honest...

Is it really???

If sin is death... Then go live forever if there is no sin....

A religious construct in the traditional sense? Yes... A control mechanism... But still a force in creation.. An example being that we never have to teach our kids to do bad... Its natural to them... We have to teach them to to good though..... Funny that...

If it is an adaptable virus then would it let you know if you had it?... O would it make you deny you had it?

Exactly... A force that takes harmony from all things... It adds and takes away.... But its whole purpose is to destroy... And this it does...

On the universal scale... If the planets and stars are dying... Can we solve this problem ourselves? And if the problem comes from outside the system, will the solution not come from outside the system too?...

Sin is evident everywhere... The examples would take the whole memory of the net.. But the net itself is an example too..

Corruption is receiving information that has components added or taken away... If we receive corrupted info all the time then what doe that do to us? We have to equalize with it.. However the only way to do that in the end is to die...

An example of sin in action in human society is mob mentality... Remember that people are pure information too that transfer info from one place to another and one form to another... You get a group of normal people together... However if you ADD someone with "too much"... That could be anything from info to a bigger mouth than everyone else.. Then that extra information destabilizes the group, and so called normal people will do abnormal stuff.. In fact, people being pure info, and there is a huge group... When there is too much information flowing though a system, in this case a group of people.. the the system starts to crash... This is also why huge populations implode... And stars too if they get too big...

Death brought beauty into life. Death gave us distant memories, things to cry for. What can never be retrieved other than as dirt, or as God did it, Clay sarcofagees, moulds for sold souls.... Thé most important thing down here is shaite, and it's what we hate the most. Strange. Your food was made from shaite, your house is probably made from it. What if the Earth once was a drop of water? Well now it's turned into.... shaite.... with a bunch of green stuff growing out from it, the dependent creature is trying to destroy. Shaite!

Here is the generic definition...
"...to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin." James 4:17

Whatever our interpersonal or social contracts/agreements are...
...if we failed to fulfil them, this is defined as 'sin'...

It is the failure to meet what we consider ourselves to be our responsibility to others.

Is this broad and real enough?

We should first get insight to what the underlying words for our "sin" [Middle English sinne, 'Trespass' from Old English synn; 'to Offend or Violate'] mean;

Nine different Hebrew words are rendered as ‘sin’ in English. That said four of those words come from one family which produce the majority of the ‘sin’ renderings. Hebrew ChaTA 'suffer loss, waste' (etymon of the word "Hate") on 184 occasions it is the root behind three other Hebrew words rendered as ‘sin’ (like ChaTaH 'punishment, penalty'), it's 2-letter etymon being ChaT literally means ‘to miss deviate or fail'.

The following five words really define closely related subjects which the translators have occasionally rendered ‘sin’.

Two of these words are themselves related. The masculine noun 'AShâM and its feminine noun 'AShMâH speak of the 'guilt and guiltiness' of the individual. Both are generally rendered as "trespass" (41 and 14 times respectively) and "sin" 3 and 4 times.

A common word which is related to sin but only rendered as sin on one occasion is ‛aÂUôN. Derived from which means 'to kink, twist' the word is taken to mean "perversity", depravity or iniquity. The word is rendered as "iniquity"(121), "punishment"(11), "fault"(2) and "sin" once (1Ki 17:18).

A rather weaker term for sin is given by ShâGâH. When appearing with the word ‘sin’ it is in the expression ‘sin through ignorance’ (Lev 4:13). This primitive root means to ‘stray’ or ‘make a mistake’. It is variously rendered "err"(7), "wander"(3), "stray"(2), "go"(2), "ravished"(2), "deceive"(2) and "sin"(2).

Another marginal meaning of sin is given by PeShA‛ meaning 'to break off /away', literally to 'revolt, rebel or transgress against' some entity. By far its most common translation is "transgression"(84) followed by "trespass"(5), "sin"(3) and "rebellion"(1).

The New Testament has only three Greek words producing the English word ‘sin’; these are correlated to the primary Hebrew word family. but all the words translated "sin" throughout the Bible (thirty three altogether) revolve largely around two major concepts.
The first is that of transgression meaning "to step across" or "go beyond a set boundary or limit." This concept can be compared to an athletic playing field with lines delineating the boundaries within which the game is played. When a player crosses over those boundary lines, he has committed a "transgression" and gone out of bounds. Limits are set that define the playing area, and the players are to stay within the limits of that area.

The second concept, “Missing the mark target aim (intended objective).” Again, to use a sports analogy, if a player aims for the goal and misses, how many points does he get? None. He missed the goal at which he was aiming.
This view of sin includes the concept of our going in one direction but straying off course to the side and not continuing in the direction we intended to go, with the result that we don’t reach the goal we intended. We miss.

This concept also encompasses the idea of failing to measure up to a standard. For example, most academic courses and tests are graded or judged according to a minimum standard. If we don’t meet that standard, we fail that test or course. A minimum level of performance is expected, and anything less than that standard is failure. By not meeting that standard, we "miss the mark" and don’t pass. We can miss the mark by either missing the goal at which we were aiming or by falling short of that goal. In either situation we fail to reach the mark set for us.

Greek hamartanō correlates to the Hebrew ChâTÂ'. The Bible translates hamartanō as "sin"(38) and "trespass"(3).

The noun derived from hamartanō is hamartia. This is the sinful action abstracted out, this word can encompass that which was done wrong and can also be used collectively for things done wrong. It is certainly enlightening to note that the first Biblical use is in Matt 12:31 (‘… all manner of sin …’) and then John 1:29 (‘… the sin of the world …’) whereas the first two Biblical usages of the previous were to individuals (Matt 18:21, John 5:13). Hamartia appears 174 times and is rendered as "sin" on all but one occasion when it is rendered as "offence".

The final word "sin" to appear in the New Testament is anamartētos. It is derived from the negative particle and hamartanō. It occurs once only in John 8:7 where it is rendered: ‘He that is "without sin".
