This type of b.s. has been going on for a while now. Like giving trophies to all the teams in a tournament, just for participating.

If you eliminate failure, you also eliminate success. If you lose, you still get a trophy, so why bother working hard and try to be the best? You'll still get the same dumb plastic piece of crap trophy that the last place team got.

We are breeding a nation of whiny, wimps and losers, who think failure is ok. Hey, I'll get a trophy anyway. Don't compete, you might fail and get your feelings hurt.

i had the same 4 hour argument with my kids teacher the other day that kids need to fall and learn how get up with/without help

all she would say in defence is that some kids never get up once they fall and thats why we keep them from falling

i asked her what her point of position as a teacher then was if all she would do was to hold hands and not let kids take the initsiative they need for self awareness and learning

she then said she was there to help the kids

i then returned by asking that is than not just the exact opposite of what you just said , how can you help if no help is needed ?



she then just said that the world is not that black and white. ,

next year my son is going to another school,
where he will learn to fall and get up with or without anyones help

Well once these kids leave school they will learn the truth about failure and embarrassment.
Who knows, maybe it will prevent complexes, I think it is silly as...

And they won't know how to handle it. They'll go off crying, and stomping their feet.

Growing up is just as much about mishaps as it is about triumphs. Kids need to experience mishaps in environments like school yards when the stakes are low and there is some adult presence to guide them through the mishaps so they can become a positive experience.

I would much rather have a person deal with the difficulties of learning to jump rope when they are six years old on a playground than have that person confront serious adversity for the first time while they an adult performing brain surgery.

Anyhow I think the childish nature of children will ensure every child will know emotional peer generated pain regardless.

Well, I thought the very point of Government intervened education was to dumb people down? I think they're doing an excellent job and we should be proud for appointing them to neuter us as well as they have! :-> What matters after all is we can find a way to "Feel good". Then it doesn't matter if you are being flogged, we'll be happy. If Captain Bly had promoted this on the Bounty there never would have been a mutiny would there?

How does this idiotic approach prepare a child for the adult world? Don't get me wrong, I'm all about protecting my son from it, but even I know that's something that can't happen. As I child I fell off trees, bikes, got caught on fences, got dirty, got scraped and bruised, you name it, it happened. Did it traumatize me? No, I just went out and did it again. Self esteem by neck, how does this teach disappointment? Life is about the failures just as much about the successes, in fact you can't experience one without the other.

Kids are very strong, why have we forgotten that? Where did the fantasy of a child being so fragile come from? So a kid misses a step while jumping rope, does that kid care? Maybe at the moment, but it doesn't affect them for the rest of their lives. Pretty soon all children will have to wear bubble wrap out fits with football helmets because they might get a boo boo that will cause a lifetime necessity of psychotherapy. When these over protect fools get their way, parks, sports, and all sorts of physical play will be outlawed.

Find out what you are really good at, and truly enjoy doing, turn it into a successful career, and be truly happy.

That is the sort of wisdom teachers and parents should be encouraging, building on the kids strengths, not giving kids psychological hang ups and phobias they can never escape in later life.

Expose the kids to challenges and adventure, expose them to all sorts of new and different things. If they fail, move on to some other activity.

And then we have the other end of the spectrum...Kids who are pushed too succeed beyond reasonable limits..and for whom failure is akin to death.
I don't understand either way....
