A great example of why children should be taught to know
their address.Very heartbreaking listening to that child trying
to explain what happened to her parent's.

She might have not known where she was at. It could have been a case of being somewhere else when this crime was committed. I still think this woman should be fired.

Unfortunately not all Dispatch locations have the tracking devices as... they are too expensive... and not effective for some locations

The U.S. needs to TAKE CARE OF ITS OWN BUSINESS, quit spending American Tax Dollars overseas... the other countries now need to foot the bill. We need to rebuild our country and make it better... so that little 8 year olds can get help when both of their parents are shot and dead. It may be true that she was just BS'n the Dispatcher... but Regardless she should not have hung up.

All of this stems from American Lazyness. Next time you feel like skipping a step in something tedious.. think of this call

I absolutely agree with you. I was putting on my "rant-face" this morning, because I must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. And you're also correct about not all dispatch centers having the tracking devices.

*sigh*

It's just another unfortunate case of people not caring more, and not wanting to do "the tedious tasks."

Thanks for responding...you've put my feet back on the ground.

Can you please explain how this relates to American laziness? I don't see the correlation, myself.

Here is a quick news article I found on it from Detroit.

Article

Article 2

BTW I don't think she should get severence from the city.... I was sipping on my coffee too when I read this and I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and this dispather made me mad.

Sounds like this dispatcher needs some training. I would think that dispatchers are suppose to stay on the phone, especially with a child until police arrive.

It relates to American lazyness because the dispatcher felt that this was a prank call. Some people in AMERICA are doing jobs that they shouldn't be doing because of benefits or the pay. We all have a purpose on this planet and when it is being filled by other people who refuse to do the job in the manner expected of them... #### happens. Such as little girls not being believed.

ALSO the price of such LOCATOR devices would be cheaper if Americans would actually work hard, you know having work ETHICS, instead of... Ill work harder for a raise... then 3 months later... ill work harder for a raise. It makes the price of items go up, thus is why most electronic jobs are sent to china and indian and japan. Granted the resources are cheaper in their locations... but corporations wouldn't be reluctant to give Americans jobs IF they would actually work... and not feel like the company OWED them anything.

Edit to remove & add

Maybe American lazyness isnt to blame, more so its untrained professional to blame. However...

There is a girl in my class (Criminal Justice Major), she works at Wal-Mart in the clothes section. She said she sees people stealing clothes all the time but doesnt really report it because "Its not my job, and I dont get paid enough"... Well heck, in this economy I know plenty of people willing to do your job and make sure the items dont get stolen. Its that mentality that I see over and over again that is stinking up America (and shes going to be a future cop!)...

Just a quick search, but there seems to be a history of shoddy performance by 911 dispatchers in Detroit - also another follow-up on this story at bottom.

What are the qualifications for this job? How can someone with such a serious life-or-death responsibility be so callus and inept? Obviously, this girl was not at home when the incident occurred - the dispatcher could have sent her to a neighbor's home to get the address, no? Look on the mailbox? ask a passerby? good lord, the ignorance.
