Rep. Grayson introduces a very simple 4 page bill which would allow you to buy into medicare. The video explains it much better though.

A reasonable solution...there is the public option that should be. Yes, it will destroy private enterprise insurance companies. However, Health Care really needs to be at cost anyway. Make it Not For Profit.

Please, forgive my ignorance, but I don't quite understand the phrase, "buy in at cost". To me, that sounds like just paying for the costs of care out of pocket. Is this just a poorly phrased phrase for saying something like "paying a membership fee" to be able to use Medicare? If that's the case, it sounds like a good idea, I know I'd like to be able to actually use that money that is taken from my paychecks! (Of course, as long as the quality of care isn't diminished for those who Medicare was originally set up for.)

I have put up with a lot of wrong opinions today by simply not standing up and yelling at my other classmates. It stops right now.

The bill is like it is today because the insurance companies planned and executed their goals. They gathered ignorant people to go protest and produce anger. They flooded the republican offices with money so that no was the only thing republicans were allowed to say. After pandering to the republicans and altering the bill in the favor of the republicans and lobbyists hundreds of times, the bill then became a document which sells the american public to the insurance companies.

DO NOT DARE TO EVER PULL THAT SKEWED HISTORY AGAIN. 9/11 is the last time I want to see history being altered to a lie right in front of my eyes.

Shame on you for doing that on ATS of all places.

So people who can't afford healthcare have to pay double to get on medicare? They take money out of our checks for it then we have to "buy into" it again? Am I missing something?

My thoughts as well. I don't think private insurance companies deserve to stay operational when their motive is profit, our citizens are suffering because of that attitude.

No, I didn't. You can perceive it as that if you are not a strong reader. I said, the democrats pandered, like small children, to the republicans and the lobbyists. This means, that the democrats after allowing the lobbyists to pull their tricks in August, constantly changed the bill in order for it to seem more favorable to the republicans so a yes could emerge. It didn't, no yes came, so they pandered more and more, changing the bill along the way. It got to the point where the lobbyist had the American people just where they wanted them. "Hammer pulled back, gun to head, PAY UP TO THE CORPORATIONS AMERICANS because this is neo-capitalism!"

Pretty much that. Deny me if you desire, I am not here to spread propaganda. I am here to learn about the more important conspiracies, but along the way I will make a comment about something or another.

See, your entire comment again dismisses ANY involvement in writing this HORRENDOUS bill with the Democrats.

You blame the Republicans and Lobbyists for what the Democrats wrote into their own bill.

Admit the Democrats wrote the bill. Admit it. Yes you said they acted like children when they pandered to the others.

So let me ask you again, who WROTE THIS BILL?

Just watch, when the Dems pass the bill, they will blame lobbyists and Republicans for how bad it is.

tl;dr - Dems wrote the bill and played right into lobbyist hands trying to change the bill to get repubs to sign on. They didn't realize that the repubs were going to say no to everything even after the bill became just what the lobbyists desired.

Well i'm hoping this makes it through so maybe people will step aside and stop arguing about "obamacare" because we're now missing the bigger picture once again.

4 Pages! Where are the other 2996 pages? Doesn't this guy know that if he wants to get something passed he needs to water it down with 2996 pages of pork to appease the others in congress, then release an un searchable version on midnight the day before the vote.

Sounds good.
One thing that concerns me...pre-existing conditions.
Lets say Jack flicks the finger at health insurance..gets nothing...then finds out he has cancer..

Theoretically he could just buy into medicare and voila, his bills are taken care of...once he is done treatments, he drops his insurance once again....

I do not support mandating health insurance, however I cannot seem to get my head around how this can work without something to poke people into getting insurance while they are healthy.

Is there any ideas floating around about this.

and yep, big supporter of the public option...alot of people are. Frankly, P.O + some reforms on tort, fraud, and some other small bits would have worked just fine and more supported.

Naa, medicare is already created...this is simply a little addon that has a big impact...but 4 pages would be enough...
keep in mind, these 4 pages are only saying one sentence anyhow...aka: Let people of any age buy into and get covered by medicare for a set cost determined by average costs of hospital visits.

4 pages to say one line is pretty normal for governmental standards.

Thanks for that post, still people with blind in their harts and minds doesn't get it, any bill that will pass without a public option is nothing but making free citizens in this nation become slaves to private insurance companies by mandate.

I will repeat myself, this nothing but an unconstitutional bill without a public option for everybody to chose from.
