I am simply stunned by this advert:

Elf to add Dampknickers Phoned the Hotline with concerns about this after reading the post and this is the conversation
Way to go DampKnickers indeed!

Call to Anti terrorist Police

So if you are unable to get a debit/credit card, or are a bit of a recluse, have cluster headaches or are too shy to speak to many, be aware that the government wants to know about you.

What in the past would be seen as "Eccentric" or just "keeps Himself to Himself" behaviour is now seen as potential terrorism. If you don’t want your purchases tracked by computer and like your privacy, you could be a Potential Terrorist.

This is the Tip Toe Goose Step to totalitarian control.

I know many will be scornful of that view, but as history has shown in all totalitarian states, as the Nazi's and the Communists showed us, this is how it starts. Create the enemy without first of all to increase nationalism. Then slowly create the enemy from within, so that the population self policies itself as wanted by the State.

This being repeated NOW in the USA and UK with this sort of advert and also the recent Washington Post and 9/11 truthers Japan affair. Just like in Germany or as seen exemplified in Communist regimes like the Soviet Union, and China when those who refused to embrace the "Norm" behaviour and refused to say capitalism was evil, were put into Mental Asylums as capitalism was a diagnosable Mental Illness under the regimes.

'An editorial in the Washington Post yesterday slammed Japanese member of parliament Yukihisa Fujita because he “seems to think that America’s rendering of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, is a gigantic hoax.” His “ideas” about the terrorist attacks “are too bizarre, half-baked and intellectually bogus to merit serious discussion.”

Fujita, the editorial added, is a member of “the lunatic fringe” who “have spawned a thriving subculture of conspiracy theorists at home and abroad”, and “his views, rooted as they are in profound distrust of the United States, seem to reflect a strain of anti-American thought”. The piece closes by suggesting that the “fact-averse” Fujita should be removed from office.'
Foreign policy Journal

Everyone too afraid to talk about dissent or question the State as they will be shopped by a friend or neighbour.

There is a clear and easy to see history of these tactics and implementation in stages like this, seen in all of the totalitarian regimes in the past.

I really can’t understand how we are letting our countries go this way with no real open community wide questioning of what is going on, whilst we still are able to.

This "war on Terrorism" is actually creating more terror. Surely this will terrorise those who are reported to this Hotline.

What really concerns me though is that having worked within Mental Health Services in the past is the effects and trauma this will bring to some.

The perfectly harmless person who is a bit paranoid, or has OCD with curtains and light, or just those who won’t touch plastic unless they have to over the health concerns etc... well when at 5am one morning Armed Anti Terror police smash into their homes.

Then a few days later release them, as they are just a bit "Eccentric" or have an Mental Health Issue, and leave them to go home, traumatised, with their entire belief system that "They are Watching me" or I "cant trust the neighbours" will have been vindicated, and make their situation much much worse.

Their is a real lack of required support and services for community mental health in the UK, so trust me anyone in this situation will be lucky to be able to see a doctor or professional for a couple of weeks, unless they prove a threat to their own safety, whereby they would then end up in a secure ward for assessment.

Anti Terrorism or Terrorism?

On this subject infact I think I might ring the Hotline, as I do know someone who fits these descriptions.

She never uses any cards; I doubt if she even has one, refuses to handle money. Is very paranoid about who sees into her house or gets close, and is very very "odd" and Eccentric.... infact she fits the bill entirely, does not speak to her neighbours.

Elf to hotline
Hi There is this lady who fits the signs of a potential terrorist as your advert, I am really concerned so here are her details:

Name: Elizabeth Alexandra Mary
Address: Buckingham Palace
London
SW1A 1AA

Her nickname for internet and forums, I am sure she has a Jihadist site membership is Queeny Vicky II.

Be careful though guys I think she has followers, and they hide their explosives and weapons in the Headdress of the "rag" oh sorry "Bear Heads*1"

Thank you for protecting us guys.
The country is much safer for the average citizen now you are doing this Hotline service.

This Thread on ATS shows how quickly and widespread this is becoming:

Dissenters to be detained as "Ebemy Beligerants" 3

I know many will think I am being Paranoid etc.... "if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing be afraid off" sort of response.

But what has a recluse or a person who is mentally ill anyhow done wrong?

These incremental stages of Totalitarianism are proven throughout history.

Create an enemy without. Increases nationalism and control by fear, we will accept whatever you say do as you "protect" us from the enemy.

Then create an Enemy within so people don’t look at the state. Get the people to self police as the state wants it.

Total distraction from the real threat to people’s safety, and freedom from terror.

I can’t understand how we as nations are letting this go this way without judgement and questioning it, given the available resources on the history of States using this sort of tactic in the past.

Tip Toe Tip Toe Tip Toe, oh I didn’t see you creep up on me Mr Monster, with such big teeth and claws and stories of how you do this in the past how did I miss it?

Mmm Munch Munch says Mr monster licking his lips.

Kind Regards,

Elf

Yep this poster has been all over the UK for a while and is very freaky and symbolic indeed. I uploaded it to ATS media a while ago:

communities should be aware of who is living among them, though. the communities themselves should be their own police force.

Indeed this is how things are in human society. However when the "norm" is created and changed from what the society thinks is good for them, to what those who want to control society for their own good, not the good of the whole, this whole issue becomes societies own worst enemy.

reply to post by ROBL240

If you congregate in groups your a "gang", if you take pride in your/this country your a "racist." If you simply want to stay at home and read a book, watch a movie or do your OWN thing your now a "terrorist", you don't even have to do that, simply having the audacity of being slightly tanned means your condemned instantly anyway.

You are spot on, this is the aim to divide communities and create the idea of differance and enemies, rather than working towwards harmony and diversity.

Well it seems the USA and UK and Australia are all on this path, and the governments are pushing it hard indeed. "Normal Behaviour, in an unusual way" wow that's an oxymoron. Do they have posters and ads in Australia too like this?

reply to post by boaby_phet

Your lucky I dont know your name and address as I would call them ASAP, how dare you not Like Banks and keep your curtains closed, not speaking to strangers Theres a Terrorist on ATS lol

Scarey eh? Get with the norm or get sent for extraordinary Rendition!

............................................................................

I am just wondering when instaed of using fear and control to prompt people to do this, if and when a "payment" or "reward system" will be in placefor this.

Kind Regards,

Elf

Well this is very worrying and in my opinion a return to the old wartime mentality of WWII when people were encouraged to report anything suspicious to combat nazi infiltration. I believe it is a good thing to have a vigilant and socially aware population, but the criteria they state in the advert as being worth reporting someone for are far too general and could describe many harmless personality types.

The most scary thing is how wide the net of suspicion is cast. I work from home, choose not to use a current bank account(just a savings account), therefore I mostly use cash and live in a house with a bus stop right outside, so my curtains are often closed, which means according to this advert my neighbours should be reporting me as a potential terrorist?!?

For the record this is my first post on ATS, but I have been reading here for quite some time. I do not have any radical views and mainly see what I read here as entertainment with the occasional shocking story that can be backed up with facts, but if you couple membership of this site with the factors mentioned above would that give the police enough suspicion to have me arrested and investigated under the new terror laws if a neighbour reported me? Would this case get worse for me because of my Irish ancestry or because I have a Sikh friend who works for the mayor of London? I could go on but these few details make the point I think. String them together the right way and you could put forward a theory that I am plotting against Boris Johnson! For the record I have nothing against the man, but you see my point?

If you imagine the worst you can find cause to be suspicious of pretty much anyone for anything, you just have to string together certain details of someone's life into one paragraph that paints a picture and bingo you can make them out to be a potential security threat. It looks like things just took another step towards making it easier for the police to round people up on nothing more than speculation and suspicion.

The question I ask is if we are fighting against terror on the side of world freedom, since we have had all these extra laws and measures against terrorism come in is freedom winning and are we still fighting for it or against it? Watch the advert again if you're not sure of the answer to this question...

And a very good and succint post your first one is indeed

I am glad you have joined in this debate as you have brought the issues in clear context.

Like you many prefer not to use cards, work from home etc and the fact you should be reported as a Terrorist is just plain stupid.

As you I see the similarities to Nazism and other Totalitarianism regimes from history very clearly!

Looking forward to your further contributions on ATS.

Kind Regards,

Elf.

i think its not the fact that the "norm" is created, but when someone murders someone else, there should be a penalty unless it was self defense.

people need to be controlled to an extent, otherwise society would fall apart at the seams.

this just looks like lazy, scare-mongering to me tho.

That's an absurd advert. And, it pretty well sums up me, and many other people I happen to know. Wanting to know more I headed over to the Anti-Terrorism hotline site www.met.police.uk... where I found further 'suspicious' activity listed, including:

* Van - Terrorists need transport. If you work in commercial vehicle hire or sales, has a sale or rental made you suspicious?

White van man beware.

* Mobile phone - Terrorists need communication. Anonymous, pay-as-you-go and stolen mobiles are typical. Have you seen someone with large quantities of mobile phones? Has it made you suspicious?

Most people I know have more than one mobile - hell they're given away with contracts.

* Camera - Terrorists need information. Observation and surveillance help terrorists plan attacks. Have you seen anyone taking pictures of security arrangements?

Everyone I know.

* Credit card - Terrorists need funding. Cheque and credit card fraud are ways terrorists generate cash. Have you seen any suspicious transactions?

Contradiction to the cash statement much?

* Computer - Terrorists use computers. Do you know someone who visits terrorist-related websites?

What's a terrorist related website? Chances are this and many other sites i visit come under that bracket.

* Suitcase - Terrorists need to travel. Meetings training and planning can take place anywhere. Do you know someone who travels but is vague about where they are going?

How about don't be so f***ing nosy?! If check-in at the airport knows where they are going who else needs to?

* Padlock - Terrorists need storage. Lock-ups, garages and sheds can all be used by terrorists to store equipment. Are you suspicious of anyone renting a commercial property?

This whole idea of you must know what your neighbours are up to really winds me up. I choose to keep myself to myself and if I spot someone curtain twitching my way I just might give them reason to call and waste police time in future, after all that seems to be what the authorities are urging.

I might begin reporting suspicious behaviour on a regular basis, I see people taking pictures, in vans, with lock ups, on computers and heading to the airport fairly regularly. I think if we all start to use the hotline for the reasons they advertise it will become overloaded and they will soon change their message to something more appropriate, and leave us hermits the hell alone.

In the USA George Bush some time ago has a similair programme launched, but it was based around Public servants or utility workers:

The Bush Youth, oh sorry through FEMA

Citizen Corps

Is currently estimated to have over 1 million people in the USA active.

Their Mantra is the exact opposite of what they do, but as pointed out that is Orwellian Speak, and well known:

Uniting Communities
Preparing the Nation

Citizen Corps

Their Strategy is done through the

Terrorism Information and Prevention System

and further:

"...the Terrorism Information and Prevention System - will be a nationwide program giving millions of American truckers, letter carriers, train conductors, ship captains, utility employees, and others a formal way to report suspicious terrorist activity. Operation TIPS, a project of the U.S. Department of Justice, will begin as a pilot program in 10 cities that will be selected.

"Operation TIPS, involving 1 million workers in the pilot stage, will be a national reporting system that allows these workers, whose routines make them well-positioned to recognize unusual events, to report suspicious activity.... Everywhere in America, a concerned worker can call a toll-free number and be connected directly to a hotline...."

Your Friendly Community Spies

So carefull you dont act strange in front of the Post Man first thing in the morning, a headache closed curtains and lack of open dialogue with him/her could have your name on the list.

What as said I dont understand is how we are letting this happen. As far as I know not one "Terrorist" has been captured or caught in the US/UK/Australia by these Schemes?

Yet they are getting bigger and bigger and more wide spread, besides the costs involved there seems to be no benefit to the stated aims.

Kind Regards,

Elf

If you have ever reported anything to any 'authority', the first thing they want to know is; your name. Some 'reporting' apparatus 'allow' for anonymity (UK Crimestoppers even promise that you can still reap a 'reward'!). ALL of the information provided, is logged.

The 'authority' learns as much about you as they do about the subject being reported.

Knowledge is power.

I think if we all start to use the hotline for the reasons they advertise it will become overloaded and they will soon change their message to something more appropriate, and leave us hermits the hell alone.

This did not work with the Poll Tax. The strategy was to conscientiously object and refuse to pay the tax, thereby forcing the Local Authority to pursue the matter through the courts. The logic was as yours, if we clog up the court system, they will have to do something, as there will not be enough court resources left to try criminals.

Amendments were made, the tax was renamed and the local rates/poll tax hybrid 'Community Charge' that we have now, was quickly introduced.

Did we win? I don't think so. At first it seemed a more equitable policy than the Poll Tax as social welfare support to those on low incomes were introduced, (not available under the Poll Tax) but infact what was achieved was that through the 'Community Charge' it became possible for local authoritities to charge not only against income or property, but also against projected funding needs for any initiatives or services that could be deemed local. This includes your money being used to further 'monitor' your behaviour, eg spy chips in bins.
