Well with virtual strip searches of families at the airports, what's the big deal with school staff watching your kids undress?

The days of the pervert janitors making peepholes into the bathroom walls are over, now any pervert just has to tap into the schools dressing room & bathroom cameras. Next thing you know somebody will start uploading them to the usenet.

Of course if the kids take pictures of themselves they'll be charged with child pornography, I guess they'll have to get a job at a school or airport if they want to do that.

Except this is MUCH worse. I would certainly be in support of the students protesting and refusing to go to school until the cams are removed.

SERIOUS invasion of privacy. As if it is not bad enough in the UK, with at least a couple of cameras on you at all times, no matter where you go. This is just insane. BATHROOMS?!

Seems to be a lot of this sort of stuff popping up. Just recently there was that issue with the cameras being activated on the students laptops at that school in Philly.

What are these schools thinking? This is to better their security? Yeah because so much horrible things happen at the sinks in the school bathrooms... Maybe if something had happened to give the staff reason to install these cameras there would be less debate over them being there, however I still believe it would be wrong - even if the students were found doing lines of coke off the sinks.

There is no fathomable reason to be spying on anyone, let alone children who may be naked/getting dressed/using the toilets. That is sick and I would be outraged if I had a child going to a school using cameras in bathrooms.

I always had a feeling this stuff may be implemented while I was in school, luckily it didn't. Now if you're a student at any school you need to be worrisome if you're being watched while using the bathroom... I have anxiety and have a hard time taking a piss when a person is next to me, or even in the bathroom as well (yeah my anxiety is that bad), I can't imagine having to worry about a camera spying on me... I'd be refusing to use those bathrooms as well, in fact I'd get in the car and go home to use the bathroom and wouldn't give a crap what the school said to me or how they'd try to punish me. I would fight that in court if I had too.

I hope these kids don't put up with this system and fight for their privacy.

I am for CCTVS in toilets, of course not to check good behaving kids, but those that use drugs, smoking, drinking...I remember from my high school, variety of law breaking things were happening there.

The only problem is, as someone mentioned, who is watching the watchers? Who can guarantee that one of the watchers is not a pedophile? Who is the one who is to say that wathcer is competent to be the watcher?
Untill these problems are not resolved, cameras shoud be removed and declared ilegal.

When are you going to understand that they are sick people running your government. When they want to help you , they really want to HELP you.

I don't see this as a bad thing as long as you can't see directly into the cubicles, my girls already don't use the toilets because kids look over the top.

Like someone else has said, lots happens in the kids toilets, bullying and everything else you can think of, so in that sense i wouldn't mind.

The only way this falls down is when kids get undressed there, my kids have said they often pop into the toilets to change an item of clothing, not the kind of thing i want on anyones video tape whether it be a school or similar.

Hi Andy, all due respect but i think your stats there are a litle high. I'd say you've probably got that the wrong way round, same as the rest of society, it's probably more like 90% are NOT all the things you've described.

No offence meant by this Andy, but you bring this up every single time the police feature in a thread. Most of ATS is probably aware of this fact by now, you have obviously had a lot of negative experiences with the police and let it be known every chance you get. Fair enough, thats the way it is with some people.

It sounds like you have lots of subjects in your story that many ATS members would be interested in, may even be able to help out in some way, so why not do a detailed thread outlining everything, instead of just throwing in the same few hatefilled remarks every time?

If it's to personal then fair enough, my apologies, i'll shut up. I just fear that if they haven't already, people will start getting fed up with it and not care at all.

TBH, I think this is a good thing.

Maybe it's just my experience, going to high school in Atlantic City, NJ; where many many bad things happened in the bathrooms. More than a dozen students were assaulted in the restrooms JUST because that was the ONLY place in the school that wasn't monitored.

I went to school in '94, and we had to go through metal detectors and wand scans, backpack checks just to get in the front door. Yeah, it was (and is) that bad. There was a full security force in the school, patrolling all the time- so the kids intent on smoking, doing drugs, having sex, and hurting people did it in the bathrooms.

I'm really not exaggerating. This was in AC mind you- a pretty rough place anytime- but if CCTV was in the restrooms there- it could have saved lots of kids. I'm behind this idea.

Once you are out of school you're going to be in those situations anyway, albeit more dangerous.

You can't shelter children from everything because most of life is there to learn from.

You make a very good point, verylowfrequency, it really looks like a Double Standard, doesn't it?
These days we are on camera seemingly all the time we are out from our homes. Big Brother? 1984? Didn't think it was real? Well, it is.

Total BS. How does installing cameras make people safer? That's a good one.

There have been cases where an ordinary citizen has been charged for putting a camera in his own bathroom, but when the school does the same thing it's ok?

Yeah, that's about where we are right now with the gov't hypocrites.
