I posted this in another place but not linking it, rather i will paste it here as well.

Intro.

Welcome to ATS Self Defence Club

Our planet (going to be) quite a Battle oriented Planet (in the coming age).

After 2012 ascension this planet will be very martial law oriented, large proportion of men and women will be learning and mastering martial arts (not just spirituality and other stuff), which will support the rest of intelligence on this 3D physical universe / plane…

So I am thinking of writing a few self defence tutorials, starting with basic martial arts training and then going to advanced skill developments, toys and tools and techniques … I am hoping others interested in this might contribute with their own info, their own skills and tricks they learned to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Basically HERE we are not going to be studying anything on military scale, nothing that they teach you in the pit, if you want to learn that, check out the shooting ranges and barrack… or go play Counter Strike and Modern warfare 2. Here we will be studying something only elite fighters know about and for a good reason. After 2012 there wont be any major wars, not on Earth not in space…. Rather there will be specialised martial arts companies, each designed to deal with a specific task / threat / leisure.

A bit of background info: I am a martial arts expert with decades of military experience behind my back in this life, (and several past lives dedicated to self defence as well.) My training was pretty impressive, miles away from what you get in the army on Earth.

I want input from you too here.

I am not sure how we should go about delivering this project. We could I guess publish everything in a thread…. If I can get more people on this we could perhaps make a really nice self defence package, we could write a magazine article like in FHM and maybe a book/leaflet/journal about self defence. Or publish a website. Both magazines for women - Cosmo and men – FHM?loaded.

Before I produce my side of info I would like to hear what you think about it and if you are going to help.

Personally I believe self defence is a vita part of life, it is a life skill… some people use “turn the other chick” and that is fine, but I prefer when I am able to provide protection for me and loved ones. And then it is such a exciting area to learn and master (self defence).

I would be very interested in helping others to learn the martial arts.
First off, I don't think I would go into it with the mindset of 2012 doom
and gloom. Things may happen during that time frame, but learning
the arts is good to know at any time.
I am a 1st degree or 1st Dan in Tae-Kwon-Do, having taught for almost
25 years now. I am not invincible and would never begin to think in terms
such as that. Always remember that the martial arts are for DEFENDING
yourself and only using OFFENSIVE if absolutely necessary.
Before a person learns the endless offensive and defensive moves,
one needs to understand it is not going through the motions of flailing
the arms and legs around as if you were trying to be some movie Kung
Foo fighter. The very first thing you HAVE to learn is establishing a good
foundation, just like a house sits upon. Without the foundation, the house
will fall over very soon. So, the beginning martial artist has to learn basic
stances where balance is first learned. If you can't get past the basic
stances, you really have no hope of learning techniques.
If there is an interest, I would be glad to continue with this. One thing I
always ask a beginning student is "Why do you want to learn the martial
arts and what do you expect to be able to do in 6 months or so"?
And I would ask your true intentions. Do you really want to work at
it and become proficient, or do you just want to learn enough techniques
so you can go to your local pub and start a fight or go to your school and
confront the school bully or what? If you want to learn just enough to
make a fool of yourself, and believe me you will, then I wouldn't want to
continue with you as a student.
More later.

Great post. A lot of what u said i also mention in my tek.

Nexus, "just leave the 2012 part out of it"

Buddy, NWO elite are very ignorant when it comes to SPIRITUAL development. They might be the strongest mightiest sorcerers but they can not change cosmos and how it operates. And on that note i inform everyone: they did not forsee / nor prepare for 2012.

2012 is not a NWO agenda, no. 2012 is a spiritual agenda. And not beginners spiritual either, more like for spiritual adepts...

2012 is not the end of anything but the old ERA. NEW ERA will begin on dec 21 2012. Ascension. #, "Jump", rapture.

"One will be take, one will be left". Less than a half of population on the planet is ready to ascend - if the rapture was to happen tonight - less than half would make it. So you can imagine what will happen to the cabal in 2012 - if things dont change - they will not ascend, and therefor wont be a problem anymore - because they wont be there with us!
They will be relocated along with other failers to another planet where they can enjoy playing out their ego dramas...

I would like you to watch this vid

Also recall Sphongle - Botanic Dimension with lyrics "Life must be a prep for transition to another dimension" Anunaki wrote that song. Im not going to say that i base my belief on that particular song, not at all. That song is just a drop in the ocean...

check out this one:

www.youtube.com...

"time is ticking and running away, and its taking us fast to a brand new free dimension, too cool to mention, thats the intention, but some of us too dam blind to see"

Ascension codes are everywhere, not just those 2 songs...

Here is another great one:

Destination Calibria

Listen to it, 5ht dimensional pleiadean vibes ALL OVER IT - "destination unknown" desteny of humankind.

how it works, how might the planet ascned. It is very tricky process and i have seen a "demo".

If negotiations fail, which are going on at the moment , and NWO kicks in, we must be prepared.... but do not let yourself be burdained, there is a "Divine Plan" and there wont be a NWO....

I've been an instructor of Tai Chi now for about 5 or 6 years. I'm very fortunate to have a teacher that was very closely connected to the Grandmaster who was very skilled in self defense and "sticky sword" (same principles can be applied to staff) technique from Taiwan. I'm no master or anything. I mostly instruct the newbies and super newbies but I can now handle myself when confronted with great force or strength, by neutralizing the situation and not trying to win the fight through violence. Great brute force will always defeat itself IMO if the opponent is patient and waits for his opportunity to strike.

Imo the most important factors to self defense are 1) Balance and Root 2) Yielding to Reveal Weakness or Uprooting Opponent's Balance 3) Control, Patience, Focus and Temperance.

All the attack techniques in the world will not help if you can not land a blow. Pushing my teacher is like trying to attack a flag in the breeze. The concept is to never let more than 4 ounces of oppositional force build on your body. And in return use no more than 4 ounces to uproot an opponent.

I once got out of a sticky situation when confronted by a stocky big guy who said "Your're going to do all that flowy tai chi # on me?" as he moved his hands about in a mocking way. I said, "You better be prepared to win, because I'm prepared to lose." He didn't know what to do but he backed away and that was the end of it.

How do you control a 1000 pound bull?

I would propose you identify exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish.

In my experience, the victor in any physical fight is the one with the least fear and the most willingness to cause harm. What sort of situation are you intending to help people address? Roving bands of post-apacalyptic bandits? NWO agents bursting down doors with automatic rifles?

Text discussion of technique is not likely to be very helpful in such cases.

Even if confronted with mere high school bullies, I would place less value on an entire year of training in martial arts technique and philosophy than ten seconds of complete willingness to punch someone in the face.

So I ask again, what are you trying to accomplish?

It is impractical to sticky hands half a dozen men with assault rifles. Certainly the concept still applies...but it is much easier to avoid four ounces of bullets by not being in the building when they're fired.

I would assert that the entire physical form of Tai Chi is merely a tool to convey understanding of the flow of energy. Not all energies take the form of a single man standing politely in front of you.

That's funny I don't remember the concept of rifles or other firearms entering into the MARTIAL ARTS discussion that is the subject of this thread.

This is precisely the attitude that has allowed tai chi to prosper in the face of violent ignorance for 2 thousand years. Tai chi evolved out of necessity to respond to radicalized shaolin kung fu. Internal martial arts have strengths beyond the average persons perceptions; another strength if ever called upon.

It would not have prospered for this long and have been hidden secretly within family traditions for so long were it not effective.

How is somebody shooting you with a gun not martial?

In any case, the original poster very clearly specified that he was interested in discussing self defense, not idle philosophy. Arbitrarily choosing to ignore the possibility that somebody might bring weapons to a fight is a lousy mindset for self defense.

And for the record, kickboxing is probably
the LAST MA that I would go learn.

It's going to be difficult for this thread to not degenerate into a "which style is best" debate. Not that I would mind...I'm sure it would be fun...but I think it's not quite the direction the OP intended.

If we do go in that direction, I simply propose that we keep it in context. As I understand it, the OP started this for the case of some sort of post-apacalyptic 2012 world of martial law and mayhem. So we cannot expect to be having one-on-one duels with a single, unarmed opponent who will bow before and after they attack with single punches and then stop and give us time to respond like a good little uke.

If you take some time (7 years and more depending on your talent and dojo)
you can learn to fight pretty good no matter what martial art you practice.

My calendar tells me that it is 2010 right now. As such, I'd suggest that any form of self defense that takes "7 years and more depending on your talent and dojo" is probably not a good solution for self defense in 2012.

I have been involved in martial arts for over 30 years. I have a black belt in Tang So Do from many years ago but have studied many different styles. I currently train with an MMA (mixed martial arts) team and suggest an MMA gym with an emphasis on self defense would be one of the better places to learn self defense.

UFC and Vale Tudo or no holds barred fighting have proven that a combination of Muay Thai kick boxing, Brazilian Jui Jitsu, and some western Boxing and Wrestling with a Few traditional MA kicks and hand techniques such as the spinning back kick, spinning back hand or bottom fist is the best combination for fighting and easiest to learn quickly. Doesn't mean other styles cannot be effective but they usually take years of training to be able to use them effectively and can often be somewhat limited in a street fight. Krav Maga would also be a good street fighting art but be careful as there is lots of fake Krav Maga schools.

What ever one decides on a couple of tips to remember is live training is essential meaning part of the training is near real or almost full on short of injuring your training partner. Going over techniques slowly is fine to get the movement down but at some point you have to practice it full bore or at least 90 percent to get realistic training. Any school that does not do hard training, sparring, and grappling as part of its regimen should be avoided IMO.

Also you can learn and execute some pretty good techniques in six month but you need at least two years to form habits that won't disappear when the adrenaline kicks in. Some folks can do it sooner but they are the exception. It has to become second nature so you don't have to think about it you just do it.

That's my 3 cents.

I honestly don't see the point in this thread. It is impossible to master a martial art without the instruction of someone who first mastered it.

I have met a "Text book" Karate student, in my Aikido practices. Before my Sensei was present he pretty much wanted to start a fight. He didn't chamber his fist properly, and his punches were slow, because he didn't realize that it took years to develop a punching ability that a master would have. In the end I ended up dragging him over the mat with him in an arm bar. Which while a completely other conversation was very stupid, and I got yelled at after class by my sensei.

The point of that story is, if you want to learn martial arts, don't do it from a book, or a movie. Go find a proper instructor. Because a giant book filled with 1000s of pictures is worth less than an insturctor who has devoted their life to teaching their martial art.

That is true for most people but not for all. There are a few guys in the UFC that have actually started out training with videos for Muay Thai, and boxing on DVDs, and they said it actually helped them out a lot. It is rare, but if you’re dedicated you can basically do whatever you want. For me I am ahead of every guy in my weapons class for the nunchuck just because I had DVDs to help me out. But that was for a weapon not a martial art, so I can’t really say.
